Adding in a sniper class was a mistake, it's not like they're overpowered or anything it's just that so many people choose them and then just ignore the objective so your team gets steamrolled. It's the worst on Jakku when you spawn as a rebel and you just see half your team up there looking down their scopes and taking to odd pot shots while we lose all the points.

Are there any big maps in this game? The few Galactic Assault games I've played have been awful Rush-style experiences on total meat grinder maps.

Like I said last night, the actual fun factor and variety gives me the same sort of feeling I got playing Warhawk, but obviously on a much grander scale. Odd comparison to make over the older Battlefront games, I know. But that is just the sort of vibe I get. Warhawk also happens to be one of my absolute favorite multiplayer games ever as well. So if they get the balance right here, it will easily be among the greats for me. I honestly feel that it is that damn good at the core.
Don't say things like this. I love Warhawk and from what I've seen, this is still nothing like it, especially in the balance department.

But can you enter and exit vehicles at will, and do they have a Warhawk-like proflight control mode?

It's not like it in those respects, but it just gives me that vibe in terms of the flow of the battles playing in third person for some reason. I know it's weird, but that same sort of feeling and 'addictive hook' was brought to the surface for me last night. The game just reaches that same sort of height for me, what can I say?

I was watching the Giant Bomb Quick Look and was shocked at how bad the monitization / progression system looked. I felt Dice had it nailed in BF3. It felt very rewarding and motivated you to play. This system seems like the total opposite.

After playing the first, I've always had hope that a future entry would be Warhawk with a star wars skin lol. I'd be playing if that were the case. Still on wait mode.

Pro tip: don't craft the cards for your abilities yet! You get one free card per ability by doing the corresponding challenges.
check the specific challenges for what to do.
for exmaple the scan dart, you'll need 5000 points (doesnt take long) and you get an improved version card for free

This is one why the 4000hr story is such bullcrap. It's not only about credits.

This game needs stats. I want to see my time played, kills, objective score etc.

First game had it, shit move removing it.

Sony should totally look into getting Warhawk remastered. It would be killer on PS4.
Indeed.

But how are the flight controls in this? I deleted the beta after not being able to find a regular match and playing with default controls in the dogfight mode. I later realized I should have probably looked at the options further but it just left a bad taste in my mouth for my very first experience.

The flight controls feel amazing to me and it is incredibly easy to pick up. I normally prefer to be on the ground, but the Starfighter Assault mode here is a big highlight. Super intense.

Finished the campaign earlier today. Have to say that it was better than I was expecting, even if it wasn't great or anything. Some of the arenas were pretty exciting to play in as a SW fan. I didn't touch the first Battlefront, so this is the first time seeing a current gen SW game and it's pretty impressive, especially on Jakku. Just for the visual spectacle alone I'm glad I played this. Shame it wasn't really that cohesive, just seemed to jump from one mission to another. It just makes me miss a real singleplayer SW game with more of a narrative focus. I didn't expect to
be playing as Iden for only half of the missions. It's like they felt they needed all the starpower to make people sit this through. Also I'm glad that Billy Dee still wants to do Lando, but he really sounds like he's cashing in a check here. iirc his appearance in Rebels was a bit better. The Luke and Leia soundalike was good, Han... not so much.

I never play mp games but I'm checking out the different modes tomorrow, just to see if there's anything I could find enjoyable.

Heroes seem to be severely imbalanced vs Villains. I chose to unlock Vader first but now I should have done Luke. Seems Like Han and Lando can't do anything against the speed and Force moves of Kylo, Maul, and Vader. Add Bobas jet pack and rockets and it's not even fair.

Having played a few matches (its my least favorite mode in either BF game), once they add some more heroes and villains into the mix, I think they should change it to 3v3 with segregated Light Side/Dark Side and non-Force using heroes v villains, or do the same a keep it 4v4, though I can't see them adding enough heroes on both sides to successfully managed the separation I'm proposing.

Turn Advanced Flight off but keep Roll on. Put pitch and yaw (turn with AF off) on the left stick and throttle and roll on the right stick.

They've already said it's coming shortly after launch. It not launching with it is fucking absurd, but it is coming.

That's good to know, thanks.

Wonder if they're tracking stats and it'l update with your progress, or if you will start at 0. Hopefully it tracks, hated that about U4. they had a couple updates that completely wiped stats.

Is it me or is there no score awarded for capturing an objective, just noticed it on Jakku.

The irony is in the few days I've had it I think this is easily the best 3rd person arcade multiplayer game I've played since Warhawk.

They should definitely do some sort of 40 player variation on capture the flag for this game. CTF on Warhawk was amazing fun.

This game is alot more fun to play than the 2015 Battlefront. I'm not quite sure what it is that makes it better though. I think it's a combo of the class system, better maps, and Galactic Assault actually having varying objectives as the game goes on. The progression system is killer though. You barely get anything for completing challenges and outside of buying crates you hardly ever unlock them. If they get the progression and loot system figured out this game will be super super solid.

This doesn't make it a sure thing but since there are number of challenges that track things like kills I'd guess stats in general are being recorded.

I mean in a general match both are similar but in heroes vs villains I absolutely enjoy playing as Vader more than Kylo. My very first two rounds with him..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_f3sjRP_nU&t

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SByrxrwkSTI

I gotta say that as much as I like smack talk from the robot announcer during the match, it absolutely makes me cringe hard every time the match starts. I wish he'd just stay quiet as the match starts and let everyone have their cool intros.

I also think the hero health is too low. They die so fast.

are you actually playing the game yourself?
I mean, your example is kinda not very realistic. if you put hard numbers against each other in a perfect situation, then yes, the higher numbers will win.
Like if you put two aerial troopers next to each other and have them shoot their heads at the same time the one with 20% more health will be left alive.
those are clinical situations though, this stuff doesn't organically happen often at all.
if you play the Galactic Assault mode, the times you will die will not be cause someone had a star card.
same with star fighter assault.
the modes and maps are just not made or played that way.
I have not spend any time in heroes vs villains or strike/blast yet though, so I do not have an opinion on these.
I'm playing the game and loving it.

Cards give you a HUGE advantage.

Turning advanced mode off seems to go against that but I wouldn't know until I play it...

Gosh, over the last few days I was in riot mode against this game, but here I am curious haha.

You may not get the Warhawk vibes that I do, as it's fundamentally pretty different. But playing in third person with the big battles most certainly gives me that same sort of feeling for some reason, I can't really explain it. But I will echo yet again that this game at the core is killer on it's own. It just needs the odious progression model tweaked, and if their solution is balanced enough, then this will easily be one of my favorite games.

The clearest improvement to me is that shooting the guns and using abilities is fun. I found the actual act of playing SWBF1 to be very bland.

Yeah, even against someone with a better card set, tactics can still end up working in your favor with something as simple as pinging them from around the corner and getting a headshot or detonator kill before they even see you coming. Not to mention being able to spawn as a battlepoint class.

The abilities and overall options are there to work in your favor and when I get killed it is not due to the game being unfair at all. It's due more times than not to me being stupid, having bad aim, being outnumbered, the opponent getting the jump or just flat out being a better player. Sometimes I do great, other times I suck. Same as it ever was, lol.

Had a funny moment with my friend unlocking Yoda, running for miles to get into the base and getting stamped on by an AT walker. His jaw was on the floor. He got all of 20 points for it haha.

I do agree with your second point. I don't get frustrated playing this one compared to the first, nine times out of ten I lose gunfights because the other person had better aim, positioned themselves better, or did something that requires actual skill. The first game felt too random with how Star Cards worked.

Why would buying this game make you a bad person? You're about to have a lot of fun with it!

It's probably the best multiplayer shooter to come out this year.

Micro transactions are stupid but it's a just a video game. Kinda sad users on this forum try to take it there really lol.

They already figured it out. They took a progression system designed for short bursts of RNG gameplay to attract you to pay for a chance to get a higher-level ability, and overlaid that on top of a skill-based game with a progression system based on matches played and objectives completed.

In this type of game the star cards flatten the skill curve for higher-skilled players, but don't flatten the skill curve for lesser-skilled players - which is the opposite of what you might expect. Which is what makes promoting the desire for more powerful star cards problematic - the gameplay reward for lesser-skilled players with powerful star cards isn't there.

Btw guys, this is utter pro tip and it might get nerfed so use it while you can:

the second specialist longblaster IQA11 has a "bolt speed" upgrade which (at least on PC) removes bolt travel time.
It is thereby utterly lethal against starfighters of any kind. You just click on them and there is nothing at all they can do.
You will have complete air superiority (unless an enemy does the same to your planes lol) and also get tons of points.

USE IT

The imbalance of star cards is becoming pretty apparent. When i was playing the trial i was doing pretty well. Now i barely mantain a 1.0 k/d ratio and i notice every player that kills me has purple or blue cards. I only have some green and mostly grey.
Should have asked for a refund.

Indeed, no excuses here. I also can't blame things like awful hit-detection and/or a team of quickscopers either. Thankfully, none of that garbage is present in this game. The hit-detection is spot on and you have the abilities, tactics and your team at your disposal. Just fix it to where progression is not like climbing out of quicksand and this will easily be amongst the best games on the market.

I win the match of star fighter assault. Have 2nd highest kills on my team, 4th on points and I receive 200 credits. I suppose I have to use the exact same ship for 10 matches before I can do anything to fix it
