Holy crap, Gboard exists for iOS!!

Installed it the moment I found out, and my iPhone X experience has literally become a million times better. Predictive text on this keyboard and swiping are incredible.

Not sure what the heck is up with SwiftKey, but it remained garbage after two days of light use. Gboard just works a breeze out of the box.

I need some help y'all. Been searching through this thread too, but it's kind of a hassle because it's so big, there's a million posts, and then there's the thread we left behind too.

Phone is finally coming in in a few days. I'm looking for a case, but as you might imagine, we all have our different preferences and there are a million cases out there that are slight variations of one another. What I need in a case:

- Reasonable drop protection, not one of those skin-esque cases that do the bare minimum, but not an otterbox either because I can't deal with that bulk even though drop protection is of utmost importance.
- Lip around camera and front so it can lie flat and be protected
- No cutouts, egregious branding, or designs. Something as minimal as can be and black (or clear on the back; I'm getting a Space Gray).
- Preferably buttons access that isn't flush and I can feel around for it
- Preferably available in Canada (but I can always look for this myself).

Looking around, seems like I've narrowed it down to Spigen's Ultra Hybrid or Supcase's Unicorn Beetle, leaning towards the Ultra Hybrid because the buttons aren't flush. Just wondering if there's anything else I should be considering, considering how important a case purchase is.

Ringke fusion. Same TPU/hard back combination as the ultra hybrid, but slimmer and less branding. I had both and returned the spigen for just feeling a little thicker than I liked compared to the ringke.

I just want to said that I hate Face ID, way too much, worst thing ever in an iPhone.
(And yes I tried to set it up again on day light and it's still totally shit)

Apart from that, the screen is awesome

Is there an easy way to add your fixed mon-fri work schedule to Apple's calendar? I'm struggling here

Have you tried the iCloud website on a computer? I manually add my work schedule to my iPhone using the Calendar application on a Mac. Then it all syncs lovely with iCloud. But yes, try the iCloud website if you don't use a Mac.

New Spotify a bit glitchy. Had odd cross talk. Sometimes it was playing songs too quietly. At one point it was playing from my phone's speakers while I headphones in (and all other sound was in the headphones). Had to hard reboot.

Also getting some camera issues and the flashlight also was just immediately turning off when I tried to use it. Coupled with the bad battery life I might talk to Apple. Out of the 14 day return period at this point though.

Received my X yesterday, FaceID is a game changer, not single issue thus far and it feels so natural. I miss the slightly wider feel of my 7plus screen, but in can't go back.

i was gonna get an X but with rumours of larger models (6.1" + 6.5") for the iPhone "XS" then I'll probably just hold off.

i wasn't a fan of the notch at first but even though i've not used the phone i don't find myself caring about it anymore.

Ugh my ups tracking has been stuck on this message for 3 days.

"Your package is in transit. We're updating plans to schedule your delivery. / The package will be forwarded to a UPS facility in the destination city."

Apple said its expected to deliver on the 24th when they emailed me about the phone being shipped. But then UPS updated the estimated delivery to the 20th. Now it's saying the estimated scheduled delivery date is not available at this time. This phone can't come on the 24th cause my apartment management building is closed for Thanksgiving and won't be accepting packages!

Whoa, the iPhone X Verizon model is now available without having to have a Verizon account. I'm returning my T-Mobile one for it! The Verizon model works on T-Mobile, anyway, and has the more efficient modem in it. Should be better for battery life.

Easy decision. They're the same phone but the Verizon model has all the bands of the T-Mobile model, plus more, AND has the more efficient Qualcomm modem https://www.repeaterstore.com/blogs/main/for-better-cell-signal-buy-the-a1865-model-of-the-iphone-x

Apple is still making multiple versions of phones?

Technically, no. The Verizon model is the T-Mobile model, just with a better modem and more bands. They only made the crappier T-Mobile, AT&T model because they hate Qualcomm and wanted to diversify hardware with the inferior Intel modem. Get the Verizon model and you're good to go with one model everywhere.

So basically Tim Cook couldn't manage it.

Got it.

I don't blame em. Qualcomm is crap. If it's true they're overcharging and abusing their parents, I'll be glad when it's fully switched to Intel and they suffer the losses.

Got my $5 wireless charger in the mail. This tech is cool. I've never bothered getting one for my android phones but I just had to get one because they are so damn cheap these days. Even cheaper than lightning cables.

Same here, it was a 10.99 Yootech one on amazon. One of the few cheap ones that didn't have an ugly FAST CHARGE written on it. I might grab a few more as I'm really liking it. It's kind of funny because when you compare the speed of just plugging in a phone vs putting it down it's not some huge difference in time. Just the ability to lay it down and top up a charge is nice. I generally make it through the day with around 15-25% so I'm never starving for battery and if I want more juice in a short amount of time I can just plug it in.

I agree. In its current form, it seems like a flashy gimmick. I loathe the heck out of it... always have to angle the damn phone properly for it to work, and it doesn't even work for me in the dark with the phone staring directly at my face for seconds and seconds.

But, I think it's a good direction for phones to go in. With mass adoption of this tech, Apple and co. will have the opportunity to refine the hell out of it and push out some really great sequels to Face ID in the next few years.

(I still hope they bring back the fingerprint scanner.)

Gesture wise it's been confusing whenever I use my iPad Pro or my gfs iPhone since getting the X. While it's more recency bias, the gestures feel way more intuitive outside of the app switching/close apps in comparison (the arc swiping technique from the bottom to the side is tolerable though). Really enjoying this phone.

Whoa, had no I idea about this.

But it looks like I'm good? I'm on AT&T, but I picked up my iPhone directly from an Apple store, so according to that article I picked up the QUALCOMM iPhone X. Yay?

It fails too much, not sure if it's because I have long messy hair or my unit is faulty.
Why? I just hate Face ID.
You shouldn't Be having that many issues with Face ID. When it fails, have you been getting the passcode prompt? Apparently every time you enter your passcode, it is learning your face more and more as to correctly scan your face under those conditions next time. Also try resetting your Face ID by holding your phone at a lower angle, the angle that you usually use your phone at. In addition to this trying to exaggerate your head motion in an extremely circular manner when doing the scans, so it gets every angle of your head.

If none of this improves the success rate of Face ID, you may need to take it into an Apple store and have it looked at since your unit may actually be faulty. Face ID has been a godsend in a game changer for me and everyone else I know that has been using it on their X with minimal failure.

Face ID works great when you're pointing the phone directly at you.. but there's times where I need to unlock it at awkward angles or closer to my face which makes it useless.

Since getting the iPhone X I tried making the switch from Snapchat to Instragram, because I think the app looks better on the X, but god damn the IG camera is awful. I need to just go back to using the default camera app and then posting the pics to my IG story, which I suppose is another plus that IG has over Snap.

Man, I refuse to support Snapchat after the garbage-tier bullshit they put me through on my old Android phone. All my stories on Insta now (which seems to perform great on both platforms).

Love the app switching, more fluid than ever. The way jumping from app to app is a gesture that's congruent with, and can fork into launching the app switcher view because we've basically transitioned to a natural, full-on card handling metaphor is just godly.

Force closing apps do have that one extra step that feels out of place, I guess it's some Apple strategy to further demotivate people from closing apps.

Actually, I forgot to mention the switching on the bottom of the screen like you said. That in itself is a winner.

Doubt it. Compare your model number on the box.
Dang, I've got the A1901 model it seems. That means that article is incorrect, since I picked mine up in person and still got the worse model.

Either way, I think I'll live. AT&T has pretty strong signal where I am usually, with plentiful wifi to spare. Just something I'll keep in mind for the next upgrade I suppose.

You can also check your iPhone version through settings>General>About

Tap on the model number and it should reveal the AXXX version.

I just received my X, I have the A1901, I may try and blag a return on mine...hmmm.

iirc Gboard came out on iOS before Android LOL

I need to find a cloud service for photos that allow me to upload photos as folders and keep it organized that way. Preferably free. Can Google Photos do that? Or does anybody know of a service that can?

Sorry for being a little off topic, didn't want to make a whole new thread and need an app for my iPhone X..

I don't get mine until Monday, but all websites are indicating that O2 is the A1901 model. GSM-only or something. It's all jargon to me.
You only need GSM. CDMA is basically a US thing (not only, but mainly) with a few providers. Seriously do not read into the nonsense. A1901 is the single model that is sold throughout all of europe and can be used all over the world. I have an A1901 and just ran speedtests on my 50Mbps 4G plan, got from 45+ to 60Mpbs (I guess the provider may offer a bit more than the hired speed). Anyone that tells you it has a bad modem is wrong. This is even sillier than the TSMC vs Samsung A9 debacle on the 6s.

One of the most impressive things about this phone is the speakers. They produce seriously loud and good sound for a phone!

Also had a funny moment where after using this phone for just a few weeks, I was using my dads iPhone 6 and was trying to swipe up to get home. Strange how quickly your motor memory changes.

I'll try that, thanks for the tips, and yes, I get prompt to put my passcode, I also notice that it works better if I have it far away from my face, weird.

I'm an iOS dev, and I hate not been able to unlock it just standing flat on the table without having to pick it up, with the print it was just press the button.

If you're never gonna join Verizon or Sprint during the life of the phone there's literally no reason to care about the model number
