These details are provided by the wonderful cvxfreak, he both bought the magazine and translated the new info.

Firstly, there is a new screenshot in the magazine showing Claire in-game fighting against a Licker crawling along the ceiling , first good look of both in-game, but hopefully that new image goes public pretty soon.

I'm going to keep this brief and sweet.

  • Comments that the game is speed runner friendly, they avoided randomized design factors to help the speed running community with the game.
  • Also commented they made sure an all-knife run will be possible in REmake 2 for people who want that challenge.
  • Commented that REmake 2 is a lot more replayable than RE7, there is more reason to replay the game.
  • On that comment, they mention there's a certain unlockable in REmake 2 they haven't announced, something bigger than Tofu and Fourth Survivor Modes being in the game, that will tremendously increase replay value, but they're not announcing it at this time.
  • Mention they didn't want to go exactly for realism like RE7 in REmake 2, but do a sorta' stylized "Hollywood" look for the game, a stylized reality. They redid the style and graphics a lot to try and achieve the look they were going for.
  • Puzzles will be more "realistic", IE things integrated better into the game world and have an in-game logic to them and world building rather than puzzles just being randomly about.
  • Claire's depiction in REmake 2 is similar to Leon to help show who she was before she got pulled into all of this. "Claire is a very strong woman. She's got spunk riding a motorcycle into town all by herself." A free rebel of sorts who's come to find her brother and storm into a police station to do it.
  • Confirm the game will be at TGS, and that the game is mostly finished but just being polished now.

EDIT: Late clarification for the surprise point:

I'm going to update the OP, but here's a translation of the surprise, which does make it sound like it's not a separate mode but a change to the main game:

Hirabayashi: "Other than the already revealed "The 4th Survivor" and "The To-Fu Survivor, there is something I can't talk about, but if I say it anyway, it's something we made that can make subsequent playthroughs fun."
Kanoi: "Personally, I'll play it through many times. I think it may be even more fun to replay than RE7."

Take from that comment as you will. For those who get hung up on the last bit, this is a Japanese to English translation, they emphasis the surprise as big in Japanese writing, and the last part of RE7 was likely more a sign of respect towards RE7's developers rather than holding RE7 as the pinnacle of replayability, so might be best not to draw too many conclusions there. But they make it pretty clear it's for repeated playthroughs of the game, though also confirmed there's no random elements in the game for speed running, so wonder what it is?

---

There's some interesting small details here, and a few things to speculate over, so wanted to make a thread to talk about some of this. What do you guys think the surprise big unlockable is? What do you think about them making the game speed runner and knife run friendly? Our first hearing of Claire's direction (and hope the Claire screenshot with Lickers in it goes goes public soon so I can post it).Think the stylized Hollywood work is panning out? We probably won't get a full media breakout until Gamescom, so have a few details to mule over.

Surprise is a RE3 remake inside the RE2 remake.

It's gotta be Akuma. They pretty much made Shen Long a thing with Gouken in SF, so might as well go 2 for 2.

Different camera options (fixed; first-person) would certainly increase replayability...

Hunk? Has he been confirmed?

If so, then who know's, play as a zombie?
Yes, they've confirmed both Tofu and HUNK are in REmake 2, and their respective modes, Tofu Survivor and Fourth Survivor, are within REmake 2. They say this unlockable that increases replay value is neither of these things, and bigger than that, but keeping it a surprise for now.

I suppose the full OG RE2 game being an unlockable is out of the question right?

This the main selling point for me looking forward to it

I don't think it will be Battle Extreme , If it was then they would already announce it along with Tofu and Hunk , Also I don't think it is a 1 hour Campaign or something if we talk about replay value , unless they are multiple expansion Campaigns like Death Door and other additional campaigns

Mercenaries or Raid mode are very possible , but I am not sure if they are counted as a surprise

A thing with Tremendous replay Value that they don't want to announce right now and will be a surprise could be an alternation to A/B Modes , I know they confirmed there is no A/B mode , but maybe they will be present them in another style that is non-canon , like Arranged mode or something

Curious what they mean by this. I suppose the police chief won't be a random aesthete with out-of-place statues and the like in his station in this incarnation of the game?

Wait...What Akuma rumour? Please tell me this is the same SF Akuma.

Fake April Fool's unlockable from an ancient EGM issue that had plenty of people fooled.

This is the best guess for what it is, and I wouldn't be surprised if they take it a step further and include an actual miniature fighting mini-game using simplified SFV mechanics as well (since they speak of it "tremendously" increasing replay value). It'd be a great marketing tool to get people talking again.

It could just be a side character scenario (Ada), but I feel like that doesn't justify the word "tremendous" and they'd probably have already just told us if that was all it was.

I think there still will be weird puzzles, by be more integrated in the world. We already know there's a three medallion statue thing, though place better, but like one puzzle we see in REmake 2's gameplay features a little "puzzle" Leon's team made for his welcoming party to learn their names to open his desk and get a present they got for him. I think the game still will have goofiness, but it be more integrated into world building than just a puzzle for the sake of a puzzle, reasons behind it. In the RE universe, weird architecture puzzles are the norm after all.

Going full on fantasy here; but what if that talk and emphasis on replay-value and surprises, along with going full overhaul into stylising the game (a lot of work for a one-off), was that beating REmake 2 unlocks the RE3 story built in?

The extra feature is implied to enhance replayability of the main game. To me, this implies something that makes you want to play through the game again. An extra scenario doesn't it more doesn't do this, it just gives you more content. So, I say it is fixed camera mode for the many fans who have asked for it over the years.

this concerns me a little bit. but i guess we'll see how it plays out. i don't want puzzles to be dumb or to have less of them just so they make more contextual sense. i want a puzzle to be at least a little bit challenging and i want plenty of them. hell, designing puzzles more like silent hill would be a good starting point. i mean, the fact a police station has crazy hidden rooms and passages and cryptic puzzles at all is already weird, no point trying to force logic on them now.

I'm going to shoot your guy's hopes down now: It's not REmake 3, I don't know what the surprise is myself, but REmake 3 is something already on the cards for Capcom as a separate project if REmake 2 does well.

I never knew about that. Now there's something I didn't know I wanted so bad.

It's possible we'll get a full RE3make but dramatically expanded with new content.

GIVE US THE ADA CAMPAIGN CAPCOM PLEASE

I guess Mercenaries or Raid Mode, though I don't know why they'd make it a surprise if it was a returning game mode from the series, I'm kind of expecting something new?

I don't think Akuma would warrant a separate mode.

It won't be RE3make.
