So glad the mainstream will finally see how quality the OnePlus hardware and software experience is.

I have no doubt it will be successful with T-Mobile and hope OnePlus's pricing strategy brings down the price of other flagships rather than the other way around. A price of around $500 keeps the phone market exciting and would even make me update my phone once a yr which is a win win for everyone

Man Java blows.

Dear Google,

Ditch Java, and no Kotlin isn't the answer since it's uses the JVM. Also I wouldn't mind if you ditched Intelli J too. Give us something like C# or Swift. K thnx

Sincerely,

The OnePlus 6T being sold in store won't get me to switch from my Note (I love the S-pen way to much), but it's nice to send T-Mobile start to branch out and carry more phone brands.

This will especially give them something to compete against with the Pixel still being Verizon exclusive.

One Plus has been increasing in price almost every year. I wouldn't be surprised if they're over $600 on T-Mobile or maybe even higher since people will now be able to finance the phone. Higher price and carrier bloatware will make the One Plus less attractive so let's hope they don't go this route.

I hope the go this route. Having more choices to get the OP is always a good thing. Nothing is stopping anybody from buying it outright either.

What about Kotlin do you find lacking? IntelliJ/Android Studio > Xcode.

It's still tied to JVM. Kotlin strictly as a language is fine, but it's still hard tied to all the legacy Java stuff in Android land. Currently there really isn't a way around it honestly.

Edit: It's worth noting Fuchsia dropped all of the Java shit like a rock and never looked back.

Well, yeah, and with it all the backwards compatibility. Though really, what about the JVM (ART) is making your development process worse? If anything, its the early decisions of the Android SDK that are the issue, not the language used.

I think starting fresh on a new platform is fine, but trying to fundamentally change Android development now doesn't seem like a good use of resources. With desugaring, modern Android development isn't held back by its old JDK requirement as much as it used to be (and Kotlin takes that even further). Dart still uses a VM, and while I haven't messed with it much, I assume it still would have the same issue as Java with C/C++ interop that iOS development does not.

Though saying Fuschsia "never looked back"...it doesn't even have eyes yet. I think it's a little early to give it credit for anything.

I mean I hate Java in and of itself for application development outside of Android. So it's definitely Java and the JDK and all of Oracle's bullshit that I dislike. Lol

It usually goes like this. Fire up intelli j, netbeans, eclipze insert ide here, make sure all my Java shit is up to date. Start making classes. Then go why can't I just use C# or insert language here again?

I hate C++ so much, java is easier to work with for me. But it's so bloated.

Man don't make me regret jumping on the 6 when there's something better right around the corner!
That's oneplus in a nutshell.

Luckily they hold their value well. You can basically sell the phone at msrp on ebay/swappa months later. Cost you Maybe $100 at most to upgrade?

6T also will have the same chipset, so performance won't be different than the 6. Just sexier notch, and in screen finger print sensor and maybe another camera.

Yeah 6T isn't as big as an upgrade since it's the same chip. It's not even a small point upgrade like to a Snapdragon 246 or something.

If you own a OP6 already no need to fret. You good

Only thing I'd want extra is the 1440p screen. Being 1080p is very noticeable to me.

I work primarily in C#, Xamarin Android/iOS has been *mostly* great.

Is there any app for Android that's similar to Apple News? Nicely formatted news covering customisable topics, preferably with as few ads as possible?

I have no problem paying a one-time IAP or even a subscription if it's reasonably priced to remove ads, but the apps I've found so far are free with no way to remove the ads.

I guess I could achieve this myself with an RSS reader and some work, but I like the approach of Apple News as sometimes you get articles from sites you didn't know about before and find a new source to check in the future.

Have you tried Google News? It's pretty great, and no ads.

So Android messages decided to take away the new design. I just noticed it reverted back to the old design on my phone.

Seems about even with Oreo performance-wise, maybe ever so slightly slower. But my battery performance has improved considerably. The smart "AI" handling of background functions seems to be working because my phone is lasting about 15-20% longer than it used to.

Since I went to Oreo, I've noticed a decent battery drain. Might be worth it to get that battery back. Thanks for the info

Essential phone in halo grey is $223.99 right now on amazon brand new. Better snap one up if you want it because they will be gone quickly I'd guess.

Lol still not at the fuck it and buy price for me...

There's just not big enough of a need for a back up phone for me anymore.

I'm waiting to apply all my gift card cash towards either heavily discounted GPU or a new one depending on how prices look in a month or two.

I think the design still looks incredible though. Any deep impressions of the phone out there with the Google camera app instead of the default software?

Edit: you may not want to buy this phone if you're on T Mobile. Check out Reddit for the reception issues. It seems that it doesn't play nice with T Mobile's network for some reason.

The problem with most of these browsers is still that they don't support the autofill api and if I can't easily access my 1Password saved passwords what's the use of the browser being a few milliseconds faster when I'm losing seconds every time I need to switch apps to copy/paste passwords manually. :D

I like it, but atm I still feel like Samsung Browser is king. It performs better and it's faster to me so far. But then again, it hasn't even been a single day so I'll continue using it.

Interesting. In my experience so far it's, animation wise it's been definitely snappier. In terms of loading of web pages, it's hard to say. It's just fast.

The main thing I miss from Samsung browser is Samsung Pass, but that feature isn't as important to me as having the address and navigation bar at the bottom of the UI. So Kiwi Browser wins. That would change if Samsung adds the option of letting you move the address/navigation to the bottom.
