There's the original & a remix, both of which are included in the base game.
Different version
There's a Mass Destruction that combines the P3 + FES version and a new remix in the base P3D game and then there's a live performance from 2013 as DLC.

Uhh in that case should I have this ordered somewhere else as a backup? Are these expected to be in short supply?
No idea about short supply, but a backup might be a good idea (I might do that myself once it's up on best buy). I believe with the Crash Bandicoot Switch price glitch, they just never even shipped some of the games to customers and then cancelled after the release date. Something like that. It's really a gamble with Amazon nowadays.

I think supply will be easier to get since it's not a mainline title like Persona 5 so not everyone will be trying to get the CEs. On the other hand though, because it's less popular than a true numbered title, Atlus might make less stock than they normally would.
I thought it was 2019. Nice they managed to get it out in 2018 for the people that like these games.

Amazon US has upgraded both my Persona Dancing Collections that I got during the price error to release date delivery. So so far it looks like it's going good!

I sure hope the collection goes up on best buy... but not even the base games are up on there.
Atlus' page doesn't mention best buy for the preorder either... though it wouldn't remotely be the first time best buy wasn't listed on the preorder page and it showed up at best buy... It took a while for best buy to be added for persona 5 if I recall correctly as well.

I can't speak for Japanese fans, but I know a portion of western fans were unsatisfied by the first game, be it for the variety of little foibles the core rhythm gameplay suffers from or just that it honestly wasn't that exciting a game. Despite carrying the P4 moniker, it really doesn't stand in line with P4 in terms of quality.
I don't know what to expect from a gameplay standpoint, but does this game allow for 2 player simultaneous play? Bust-A-Groove 1 & 2 are some of my favorite games of all time, and if these games are anything like that, I'd be so excited. I'm not getting my hopes up, though.
They bombed, they sold good out the gate to persona fans but then it just tanked because the value was terrible aswell as the reasons you listed
No, there's no multiplayer of any sort. The single player controls take up the entire screen.
There are per-song leaderboards that go by raw score, which is influenced by the support/challenge items you pick.

I played and platinumed all games at the Japanese release.
As a whole I preferred P3D, as the remixes were leagues better than the other two.
To put that in comparison, I think that P3 would be behind P5 and P4 in terms of non-remixed soundtrack.

They can split them up and make one version free and the other not despite them normally being cross-buy. I've seen it done that way before.

Kinda wish they could make it so I could get all the P4D DLC pre-installed on my PS4 & have it ready for when I get it. Hopefully won't be too much of a pain considering all the free DLC & all the songs.

Amazon being weird. They just rescinded release-day delivery. New date of two days later, December 6. Cancelled and re-ordered and now I'm back to December 4.

There was a point where I would buy games mainly out to support Atlus but after such bullshit practices like the overpriced DLC, I'm gonna pass.
I will cave and buy mainline games day one though, I know myself too well, but some of the spin offs seem too insignificant it's easy to ignore, like this one.

It's whatever, I imported and bought all song DLC in the JP store already so I don't need the US version right away. Mainly just need it for P4D PS4 since my DLC for that is stateside.

Huh. My price error order is still set for release day delivery.
I'm hoping the error will stick. Otherwise, I'm probably out, either until a large price drop, or probably forever due to the P4D bundle exclusivity if these things end up being hard to find

It's probably easier to gauge if you've played Persona 4 Dancing All Night, because these two games are definitely just more of that (albeit with distinct musical identities). There's a lot of videos on my YouTube channel if you want to see what gameplay looks like (almost entirely on All Night, an unlockable difficulty).
