Those aren't legs, it's just another wildly successful launch on a new platform. I'm worried about the game's legs and its low rating on Steam, though. Once it becomes Capcom's all-time biggest title after only a year or so on shelves (if we're counting games with multiple releases across decades), I'm afraid it's all downhill from there.

That's pretty huge. Congrats to team. I really enjoyed the game and glad to see others have enjoyed too.

Sales are amazing. I just want to know if the netcode is sorted. Can 4 players hunt without lag and desync? Not in arenas

So many ppl were so wrong in that thread lol.
Which was pretty reasonable for that time, 10 million is out of everyone's imagination as the franchise never sold that much before.

No need to make fun of the posts in that thread, except for certain posts.

Interestingly, the game is still the #1 in the global top sellers on Steam. It's been there since the pre-order is opened.

But yeah, it's only a matter of time until the reviews hit mostly negative (less than 40% positive). They need to fix the port fast.

They put it on all platforms and it performed. I'm playing on the X and have sank almost 200 hours into it, it's my first Minster Hunter too.

What's like the deal with this game? Ever since it's trademark there always been some type of shit show concerning this title and it's so confusing.
Perceived ownership of the franchise to particular plaftorm holders and perceived betrayal.

Please, it was not strange at all to think 10m was a long shot

FWIW I bought the game day 1 on PS4 and didn't like it. Sales threads are always fun to go back to though and see how wrong or right ppl were. Which is why I always try to steer away from predicting in them as like you mentioned back then it seemed ludicrous to think it would sell 10 million.

Correct me If I am wrong , But I guess the game now is the Best selling 3rd party Japanese game this Generation , and I guess even adding Nintendo exclusives even we added 3DS as current generation then the game has a place in Top 10 ranking

Ranking If 3DS added :

  • Mario Kart 7 - 17.21 million pcs.
  • Pokémon X/Pokémon Y ( 3DS ) - 16.31 million

  • Pokémon Sun/Pokémon Moon ( 3DS ) - 16.12 million

  • Pokémon Omega Ruby/Pokémon Alpha Sapphire ( 3DS ) - 14.10 million

  • New Super Mario Bros. 2 ( 3DS ) - 12.70 million
  • SUPER MARIO 3D LAND ( 3DS ) - 12.12 million

  • Animal Crossing: New Leaf ( 3DS ) - 11.78 million
  • Super Mario Odyssey ( Switch ) - 11.17 million
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe ( Switch ) - 10.35 million
  • Monster Hunter World - 10 million

Ranking If 3DS not added :

  • Super Mario Odyssey ( Switch ) - 11.17 million
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe ( Switch ) - 10.35 million
  • Monster Hunter World - 10 million

Congrats Capcom. Series was born on the best selling console of all time blew up on handhelds and since then they tried MMOs, RPGs and low cost consoles. Guess what they needed all along was to go all out and release it at a quite time of year.

My favorite Capcom game in a decade!
I'm just glad the series found a footing on higher end gaming systems and future iterations are guaranteed at this point.
They need to streamline the online experience though. That was the most common complain from my casual friends.

LOL That thread has me in tears. Even in the old forum, we had been saying Capcom should give a console MH a chance again and watch the sales come in. I'm glad acapcom thought with some sense instead of keeping it stuck on Handhelds. Now bring on G Rank!

Not really. If Capcom keep neglecting the PC port after this success, they definitely won't see long-term success on PC. Unlike consoles where the majority of its sales come withing the first couple months or so, PC games will keep on selling years after the game is out. Negative reviews will potentially hinder that projection.

So yeah, sales will not stop at 10 million if they could pull it off.

To be fair, MHW selling that much is a real shock. For World to have sold that much it meant that Hamamura expected that it was going to double the amount of the previous best selling MH and it was going to sell nearly three million more units than Capcom's best selling game overall. Plus it meant that he had to completely buy into the idea that MH would really take off in the west when it never had in the past.

damn, if only they'd released the game on the switch, it wouldn't have been such a bomba; oh well, im sure monster hunter generations on switch will save--oh, wait, ten million, you say? who could have guessed that a game with a huge focus on multiplayer and long play sessions would do well on computers? crazy.

I think my favorite comment in the old MH threads was when some guy said it would be better for Capcom to make MH5 on 3ds. lol. So out of touch. Glad to see MH where it belongs.
But to be fair, everyone should be able to play MHW on any platform, it isn't fair to leave Switch out all alone. However please make sure MHGU stays exclusive, not eveyone needs to play that one, only for Nintendo.

Why are people posting that thread as if MHW selling 10illion units was some kind of expectation. I've been a big supporter of the game from day, but even I was in the "is he crazy, 10m?!" camp.

This is unprecedented. I wonder how how it can go now. 13-15 million seems reasonable now.

My favorite is how Capcom ''betrayed'' Nintendo lmfao.
You mean the same Capcom that betrayed Nintendo for putting the Capcom 5 on ps2?

Or betrayed Sony by developing Tri on Wii instead of PS3?

Or betrayed Sony by putting DMC4 on 360 also?

Or betrayed WiiU owners by putting MH4/4U/X/XX on 3DS?

Do platform warriors have a short term memory or dementia?

It was around 8 million before without the PC version right? So if the 2 million was from the PC version, would that make it the best selling japanese game on PC or Steam?

You gonna have to site something to back up that statement.

For the same reason people commented in the thread being quoted laughing at the statement. People made definitive statements and were proven wrong whereas the original statement had the caveat word "potential" in the statement.

Its fanboyism, plain and simple. Some people who preferred it being at one console manufacturer. I mean there where posts similar to that FF13 posts when MHW was announced for PS4 and PC.

I'm honored to know that you remember this random nickname but yeah, I don't. Unfortunately I click on it anyway because I want to discuss about it's sales but I always see the stupid trolling that comes together.
"The stupid trolling" started from the game announcement until now. The only thing that has changed is who does the trolling.

Re-name recognition it was more like an Aqua avatar recognition beating the same drum against the drain in MHW threads.

As if I liked what was made by the other side before. I stopped to enter MH threads for months because of it as well. lol

Yeah I guess the cases are similar. I wasn't there for the FF13 fiasco and avoid the MH and even sales threads because I knew how they would end.

First, the game has shipped 8 million since April this year. It only moved to 10 million after PC version is launched, which means that the Steamspy's 2 million projection was more or less accurate. Even in their PC trailer last month, they still mention "the 8 million seller game", which indicates that console sales haven't moved that much since April. As for the 2nd part of that sentence, we have Steamspy for that. Most games are still selling due to sales and price drops. PC players are 100% digital is the reason.

No , Best Selling Japanese game on Steam according to that Steam leak is Dark Souls III at 3,294,533

However , You can say that Monster Hunter World may had the Best launch of a Japanese game on Steam based on Concurrent Peak players and likely on Sales

When I asked for a source I meant something like this.

Even after release console sales still make up at least half of sales copy.
