I don't think you're gonna see Sym used effectively in solo q until you see it used effectively in a professional team environment. Like, it's some strange culture/momentum thing alongside mechanics cause Sym enables a team, but has little carry potential. So until people see not only how to play Sym, but also how to play alongside Sym, they just won't play her. Once someone makes a breakthrough play with her, a movement will start.
Well, there is a reason i pester about it in every contenders/owl/cup thread. I want the pros to give the "symm is allowed" sign

They are too afraid to jump in the pool, they are just testing the waters right now, but it's been ages and the hamster is being played already :c i'm baffled at how easy they made the hamster work >_>

If you consider what Veelk and I said, it's not baffling at all. There's nothing revolutionary about what Hammond does in terms of hero roles. He's a mobile disruptor off/main/dive tank. He doesn't have the potential to change the game like Sym does because he doesn't enable non-mobile heroes to get to crazy inaccessible places.

Yeah, it's just the salt and the fact she's been in comp for two weeks before the hamster. I've read his post but it also worries me she'll be a character for one time only strats like LAG's bamboozle :/

I think map pool also makes it hard, when i saw the showmatch with her being ran in junkertown i was like "damn of course, that's a bastion map!" And i got some hopes up

But idk, i feel like she'll only see play next patch, and i dont even know if that patch will be on blizzcon finals

It's highly unlikely she'll ever be a staple hero. Sym is definitely going to be a hero that enables crazy strats that are hard to shut down on only a handful of maps. At the pro level, teleporters are likely easy to see coming, and punish. But once the idea is out there, it'll hold in the community consciousness, and then ideas can be transferred to other maps. Pirate ship is viable below OWC on more than Junkertown, for example.

Another example - Reaper is viable on 2CP point B on more than just Anubis, but not at the pro level. The same idea of forced close quarters engagements can be applied to different maps.

I'm starting to use symmetry on offense when we're getting flanked by crazy genji's or tracers in our backline. I'm at that level where a good Tracer/Genji (and a fucking Mercy/pharah combo) can carry teams. (low platinum/high gold). At least Symmetra can shut down ground level flankers in our backline with turrets.

I make teleporters but honestly I'm not sure why. In the heat of battle nobody uses them anyway. Or I forget to make them. Then again, I mostly solo/duo que, and communication is a must if you really want to get something out of the teleports.

Think about it like this: Since the start of the game, certain characters moved only a certain way. They either had movement abilties, in which they had to do things to take advantage of that, or they didn't, which meant they had to compensate for it by using the positions/abilities they had to their best advantage. And it was like that for 2 years.

Now, you have Sym that can grant movement abilities to the ones that lack it and maybe even help out some characters that have them in other ways. However, just because they can doesn't mean they will, because that depends on you being able to coordinate with the sym player, who also has to think of how to best help her teammates who she's used to seeing on the ground like they are.

In a lot of ways, this is a whole new dimension to the game, and someone does need to set an example of how this can work, because it's totally understandable why people would not realize how to best take advantage of this ability when it's so new and hard to use.

They could foster this better with a teleporter that was heavily disguised and borderline invisible to the enemy team. Then we're talking about a truly game changing ability. Maybe it only lasts a few seconds in this state to balance out how well it could be used. Picture attacking on Hanamura B from the top right and then teleporting the entire team behind the enemy. This is how I think they wanted Sym 3.0 to work but it never happens because the teleporter, which IS the only unique and truly compelling part of her kit screams: "SHOOT ME! IM HERE!"

tps are more like a tool for disruption if the team isn't following them, you gonna feel like it's useless when that happens, but they'll at least take it when you're taxing them back to action, that skill requires comms and probably a set team, once you used once the enemy team gonna remember how you used it too xO

Totally gonna be pacific rim

Why does it feel like I run into XIM everywhere. This quote from the XIM creator gave me a good laugh.

"XIM isn't about an advantage, but, for the many people out there like myself who cannot game well using a thumbstick, it's about not having a disadvantage."

Fuck off.

As much as I want a D.Va short, all the shorts take place on existing maps, and there's no map where it would make sense for a D.Va short. It's probably something like McCree on Route 66, Pharah or Ana on Temple of Anubis, Mercy/Moira/Symmetra on Oasis, etc.

Eichenwalde was released with the Bastion short during gamescom, Junkertown was release with the Junker short last year. Dva short likely means a South Korean map.

I think trying to balance characters like sym and sombra to be picked at the rate of other heroes is a mistake tbh. They should have strong niche abilities that allow them to be niche (albeit acceptable) picks but I don't think either hero should be buffed to the point of high pick rates.

Weird issue with servers tonight.

One game on my end the game froze and I 'left' the match and had to click rejoin. But my team said my hero just stood still the whole time, and when I rejoined all the stats were the same and I was still alive with grav. My friend was on Zen and the exact same happened to him. We were on a six and we were the only two it happened to.

The next game on attack me and my friend had the exact same happen after 5 seconds passed after the spawn doors opened. Then on defence it happened again exactly as 5 seconds passed after spawn doors opened. Same two people out of the six, both times we 'left' but our Heroes stayed alive and we resumed exactly from where we left.

After that we left because it cost us in the second game. But we both did connection tests and we both came up fine, played a round on Fortnite and he went on Siege and both our connections were fine on those games.

Blizz servers can act up really weirdly sometimes. It's not even an update night.

Also FUCK Brig/Doom/Sombra comps. Not like I want to play the game or anything.

They can be countered but a team that's practised using them together and gets full momentum going, Jesus it's just frustrating and even when you beat them it feels so ugly.

GIVE ME PURE DIVE.

Nothankyou.jpg because comp will be flooded with even more people that think Sym is viable and they can play her then completely throw.

There's a reason she isn't used at Pro level. She's not a great hero and is constantly now going to be a broken puzzle piece. Delete her. She's a Quick Play hero.

I'm sorry Mariip. At least Lucio got his buff!

another night, another set of loot boxes
managed to get three mystery heroes victories without much effort, will probably do the other two arcade boxes later in the week

and I now have every new non-legendary item from the event, only legendaries are Reaper's from last year and Winston's
the thing is, while I would like Ana, D.Va's, and Zen's, they're not must haves for me so I don't really want to spend credits or buy boxes to try to get them

Is there a good time of day to play comp in general? I always thought it was like 10-12pn or something. Night time is an absolute shit show. Never again.

Came across a six-stack on King's Row that used this weird glitch...on last defenders spawn, they were able to shoot right through the middle wall above the last checkpoint. Straight up could not shoot them at all. Was this a known thing? First time coming across this.

I haven't played since Ana was added (yeah), but I'm really wanting to come back to Overwatch. Is there anything I should know before jumping back in? I mained Mercy/Lucio/Junkrat so I figure I can just lean on them as I learn the new heroes (and get familiar with their respective changes).

It took me a while to get used to her but new Sym is actually super fun and surprisingly easily to deal good damage with the secondary fire. I only use primary in case there was a shield or tank so I could easily charge it, but honestly I don't care since I'm pretty happy with the secondary fire to delete 200hp targets (splash damage is insane).

And I was still rarely using my turrets and teleporter...

Haven't played in a few days (and I'm not touching the game very soon with the new releases coming) but I already miss my Dragon Sym ;_; (and to think I was hating whenever I got her in MH)

so the newer characters are...
Sombra: stealths, gets behind, hacks you so you can't use abilities, and teleports away- currently a pain in the ass to play against
Orisa: kind of a Rein alt, shield is a projectile and she has a canon arm- very powerful but a little boring to play
Doomfist: basically a fighting game character, hard to use but very fun when you're getting the kills- also a pain in the ass to play against lol
Moira: a healer, very fun and powerful, even with a recent (minor) nerf- if you play her, just remember to prioritize healing over damage
Brigitte: melee focused healer with a shield, also very fun and powerful and a pain in the ass to play against lol
Wrecking Ball: kind of a D.Va alt, tricky but super fun to use

Mercy is mostly the same, the big things being that resurrect is now a single target ability, her new ult lets her fly and chains her healing/damage boost beams, and she can "bounce" out of a guardian angel for more mobility
Lucio is also mostly the same, his AOE is now a smaller, visualized radius
Junkrat no longer takes damage from his own explosives and has two mines

I think the best thing you could do is go into the training range and try out every character, a lot of them have smaller changes that would take forever to list (and Symmetra is extremely different but I don't know if you'd ever played her) so just playing around should help, also consider making a custom match of just you and ai characters to relearn things

there's also the arcade, which has a variety of modes that get swapped out, every three victories in arcade modes grant you a loot box, with up to three boxes a week (I think this was after Ana...?)

they've combined attack and defense roles into one "damage" role, Symmetra has been moved there
they've also just added a "looking for group" option, you can either find or make a group for any mode with the option to lock people into certain roles (great if you want to play some quick play and don't want to get stuck solo healing/having zero healers and etc)

Ever since the last update, my PNG has been spiking to the 2000's. I haven't done anything to change this, along with no other apps running and I checked to see my router is fine.

I don't know what's happening.

Its incredibly infuriating Mystery Heroes allows duplicates

Steamrolling another team until they end up with 2 moiras. Do you know how fucking hard it is to have 2 of those damage balls flying around.

Shitty night of matches but ended up breaking even.

Landed 2 fun hooks on the last Ilios match. First was a Reaper off the top of the taller building on the Well map. He was way up there looking back at spawn waiting for his teammates.

2nd was the opposing Hog pushing me off of the Ruins map with his ult but I managed to hook the D.Va on my way and drag her off the map.
