I haven't played since Ana was added (yeah), but I'm really wanting to come back to Overwatch. Is there anything I should know before jumping back in? I mained Mercy/Lucio/Junkrat so I figure I can just lean on them as I learn the new heroes (and get familiar with their respective changes).
so the newer characters are...
Sombra: stealths, gets behind, hacks you so you can't use abilities, and teleports away- currently a pain in the ass to play against
Orisa: kind of a Rein alt, shield is a projectile and she has a canon arm- very powerful but a little boring to play
Doomfist: basically a fighting game character, hard to use but very fun when you're getting the kills- also a pain in the ass to play against lol
Moira: a healer, very fun and powerful, even with a recent (minor) nerf- if you play her, just remember to prioritize healing over damage
Brigitte: melee focused healer with a shield, also very fun and powerful and a pain in the ass to play against lol
Wrecking Ball: kind of a D.Va alt, tricky but super fun to use
Mercy is mostly the same, the big things being that resurrect is now a single target ability, her new ult lets her fly and chains her healing/damage boost beams, and she can "bounce" out of a guardian angel for more mobility
Lucio is also mostly the same, his AOE is now a smaller, visualized radius
Junkrat no longer takes damage from his own explosives and has two mines
I think the best thing you could do is go into the training range and try out every character, a lot of them have smaller changes that would take forever to list (and Symmetra is extremely different but I don't know if you'd ever played her) so just playing around should help, also consider making a custom match of just you and ai characters to relearn things
there's also the arcade, which has a variety of modes that get swapped out, every three victories in arcade modes grant you a loot box, with up to three boxes a week (I think this was after Ana...?)
they've combined attack and defense roles into one "damage" role, Symmetra has been moved there
they've also just added a "looking for group" option, you can either find or make a group for any mode with the option to lock people into certain roles (great if you want to play some quick play and don't want to get stuck solo healing/having zero healers and etc)
