Aiden was a great guest on KFGD today. I really love when Greg gets to branch out and elevate other people like this.

Yeah. I don't know if it's because it feels like Nintendo can't be reached, so most people don't try to voice their concerns in a broad manner, or people are just used to them getting away with it. Play anywhere is the future of gaming, so seeing anyone not on board is frustrating.
I'll second what you said about Aiden! She was great, and her voice and perspective were especially salient given the IGN news.

And yeah, I happily support Nintendo. I grew up playing handheld games and Nintendo used to be pretty good at handheld BC. But some of their QoL stuff now is quite bad.

Aiden was incredible!! I really hope they continue to bring her on, she came off like she had been doing shows professionally for 10+ years! Also such an inspiration, I cannot imagine how hard she must be working. Pursuing a master's while freelancing and trying to live her dream? She's so awesome. I'll be finishing up undergrad this year and moving onto a master's next year, and it's so encouraging seeing people like her be very good at what they do and still putting in all sorts of work to pursue degrees.

Hey, could you guys help me with something? I'm planning on doing a watch-through of all the MCU movies before A4 comes out next year and was going to finally watch all the KF MCU In Reviews along with the films. I know the videos are also available as podcasts and this would be my preference as I can listen on the way to/from work.

But I don't want to feel like I'm missing loads of jokes or whatever by not watching the videos. Could someone who's seen the MCU In Review series tell me if it's very video-based or if I'd be okay just listening to the audio?

I've only listened to the audio and didn't feel like I really felt left out at all

who watches kf videos
optOGS3.png

I actually semi watch them because I use a floating tube app so I'm at least glancing at it every now and then, and occasionally if I'm in a car or forced waiting somewhere I'll watch them straight up, but yeah I tend to only use thier content as something to entertain me while I'm doing something else. This is why I don't watch party mode much, I just don't usually sit down and watch their stuff in isolaiton. I did watch the first 7 or so eps of PM this way though, but it was during a period where I wasn't listening to any other KF shows for some reason, which isn't the norm.

Oh and I do watch some of their reviews for new movies just because I like the vibe of getting back late from a movie and watching their discussion while I lay on my bed.

I agree with everyone, Aiden was an awesome guest. Though for a series regular as some above are saying, I'm not so sure.

For me personally, I look to KFGD for the more "expert" thoughts/opinions. Whenever Greg asked her her thoughts she would just reply "I wish I knew!" or something of that nature. Personality-wise she had a great on screen persona. I could see her be a very good 3rd rotating seat on Gamescast with Tim and Greg (on days Jared can't make it maybe).

Also just wanted to clarify, though we have hosts like Gary Whitta who doesn't always have the most "expert" thoughts as much as Greg or Andrea does; he DOES have very strong "outsider" opinions that I really appreciate and enjoy. Plus he's hilarious. =P

I wouldn't underestimate her. For someone to only be twenty-two and already have as much professional work under her belt as she does, she has to have shown a great tenacity and eagerness to learn the trade.

Oh I think she's awesome! Especially for where she is in her career. Just in terms of her being a series regular (on KFGD specifically), I think she needs some more knowledge/experience. Like I mentioned she would be perfect right now as a 3rd seat in Gamescast. But like always that's just me and my opinion in what I'm personally looking for in KFGD. = )

TIL the Kinda Funny reddit is filled with SnekBoy apologists.

At least I know now to ignore it
It's sad but not ultimately unsurprising. Who holds a grudge for that long? Someone who doesn't have a lot of mainstream role models in the industry and was fairly misguided to begin with.

Oh for sure. It's just that it can be tricky to balance wanting more experienced people on your team, and wanting there to be people with more professional experience in the world. That experience has to come from somewhere!

If you're referring to the thread from one day ago, it is about that.(?) Well at least partly. It's needless shit flinging that achieves nothing aside from being inflammatory. No constructive commentary whatsoever, literally just an insult lol. And even regardless of Colin, Danny has been weird on twitter as of late. Comepltely understandable to me that people would be turned off by him now.

It's nice to see the Kinda Funny subreddit yet again turn into another pity party for Colin today. Still baffled by how many people are so easily fooled by his "woe is me" victim mentality. Dude brings on every bit of shit that gets thrown his way.

Can someone provide examples of Danny doing stuff on Twitter that's getting people riled up? I can't find it.

It's also clear how the Reddit portion of the community is still obviously Reddit and all that entails, unadulterated sexism, bothsideism, and blatant alt-rightism.

I agree with the sentiment that Danny kinda has lost the plot (some of the examples people point out aren't valid though), but what annoys me is the conversation surrounding it. At this point, Danny is basically a left-wing version of Colin and the majority of people are saying they're glad he's not on KF content anymore and they would be upset if they collaborated in the future. Yet, the same people act like Colin is a saint, keep saying how they wish he'd do something with Greg, and generally act like he's a pleasant person. I can't tell if a significant portion of the audience is clouded by nostalgia, or if a lot of them are far-right types who agree with every disgusting thing he says and therefore give him a pass.

Difference to me is we need people like Danny who are brazen in their efforts to push forward diversity in gaming. I can understand not wanting to dealing with gamergater crowd.

Their feud started when Danny was saying he was going to try to show/hire more women and POC and Colin replied we really need diversity of thought.

Yeah I was about to say.
It's Colin fans, what do you expect?

I checked the top comments in the /r/Kindafunny thread, and a lot of posts while sometimes sympathetic to Colin they mention that he brought it to himself and always play the victim.

The Facebook group is ten times worse than the subreddit. There is a pinned message to be nice to each other all due to Colin's topics. Mods often delete these topics because Colin's defenders there are one of the worst type of defenders and get aggressive.

Being "right" is irrelevant to the tastelessness and obnoxiousness of that kind of discourse.

That's what I was seeing too.

I didn't know Colin went by the nickname SnekBoy. Could it be his Join or Die tattoo?

It bums me out to see his name sow such discord. He is, after all, the co-founder of Kinda Funny. His vision lives on in much of what KF does today. I think it doesn't help the gaming community at large that he and his associates are socially ostracized, especially now that he's back in games.

That said, I am ignorant of whatever drama surrounds him and Greg. I also wasn't part of the old site. All I know is there's a reason both he and Danny left: because they both wanted to move on to other projects. I hope they can stop squabbling and continue to serve as positive voices in the industry.

SnekBoy is a sarcastic nickname his dissenters have given him to mock his don't tread on me avatar.

Danny left because he moved due to San Fran being way too expensive to have a child and logistical reasons.

And Kinda Funny today is not Colin's vision today. That's partly why he left because the other guys took it a direction he didn't want to go.

Oh and they actually care if they offend someone

Which is why even Greg talks about the possibility of Kinda Funny moving out of SF. The big downside would be the loss of access to so much of the gaming industry. Greg has said that he would love for Kinda Funny to be HQed in Columbia, Missouri (home of his Alma Matter, University of Missouri (Mizzou)). But, like I said above, that would not make much business sense in terms of access to guests. Maybe moving here to the East Coast (anywhere between DC and Boston) would make sense for KF. Danny moved here to Maryland (it's so weird knowing he lives just mere miles from me) and has such quick and easy access to not only DC and Baltimore (homes to both Bethesda and Firaxis), but also to Philadelphia, NYC, and Boston. The Amtrak Northeast Corridor line with its Acela high-speed train makes visiting those cities very easy. The line connects DC to Boston.

Jared treating almost literally every game he enjoys like it's an 11/10 can't miss classic is getting a little tired lol. The enthusiasm is admirable though.

Funny story, I actually live in Columbia, Missouri and can vouch for how much cheaper it would be to run an internet-based operation there. No hyperbole, if they maintained the same revenue from Patreon, ads, hosting gigs, etc. their disposable income would at minimum double, probably triple. You can buy a GREAT house here for like 200k and business spaces are a fraction of what they are in SF.

When Greg and Tim were here a few months ago my friends and I chatted a bit about it. Greg told us the biggest reason is the lack of a major airport. We have Columbia Regional but it only flies to Chicago, Dallas and Denver. Plus the spouses, etc.

Yeah, I think he mentioned the airport thing on one of the shows a while back. That's a huge factor in terms of bringing guests in.

Someone needs to point out to him, in the same way that he talked about not everyone being able to afford current gen consoles (let alone all the consoles), most people don't have time to play literally every game he thinks is good. I don't have time to play all the new games I want to this fall, so I'm certainly not looking backwards to find every hidden gem he recommends. Not only is he in a job where he's asked to play a lot of games, and his wife supports his doing so, and his entire childhood was filled with doing so, but he also doesn't seem to have many other interests. I rarely hear him talking about which movies he likes, or playing a pickup game of sports with his friends, or building anything that isn't an arcade cabinet, or baking and cooking, or clubbing and dancing, or practicing musical instruments. And there's nothing wrong with that. He doesn't need to be like me where I enjoy illustrating, programming, dancing ballet, playing violin, going out to movies, bar hopping, cooking for friends. None of those make me a better person than him, but they do give me less time to play all the games.

It's not his vision. The closest thing left that you could call influenced by him is the "three and three" at the end of Morning Show segments, but even that rarely actually holds true, and it wasn't his ideal to begin with. Colin didn't like talking to fans, so three and three was his meeting halfway point. Colin isn't a positive voice in the industry. He complains and belittles. If it's not one of his favorite few games then he sneers at it. That's to say nothing of his abhorrent politics.

Remember when Kinda Funny discussed the best PlayStation games for every console and Colin literally scoffed at like 80% of what was mentioned? Tim would find lists of games commonly regarded as the best and he'd mention one like Devil May Cry 3 and Colin would just snear and mumble, "No." in a condescending fashion. Good times lol.

I was just wondering the other day what the In Review series would've been like if Colin was still there. In reality, I bet he would've just skipped out on it. That right there shows how things are better off now. It's amazing how Andy coming in and Colin going out changed Kinda Funny's energy. I liken Andy's influence to Kinda Funny to Dan Ryckert coming in to Giant Bomb. Giant Bomb was in a real bad spot following Ryan Davis' death (a very different situation to someone resigning). They were just spread too thin, but Dan instantly brought so many fun ideas that reignited the fun of Giant Bomb. I feel like Andy had a similar impact to Kinda Funny. Ever since he came, we've had new series such as Party Mode, Kinda Funny Morning Show being split into two with Kinda Funny Games Daily being created, VR Show, Cooking with Greggy, (Franchise Name Here) In Review, etc. He's been a spark plug.

I imagine most likely he would have skipped. Other off scenario is Greg convinces him to give it a chance again and just try at the beginning, and he either falls out of it at the first few movies, or ends up actually liking them and participating throughout the series.

Maybe I have a soft spot for break ups, but that and how formative Colin was beforehand make me sympathetic. I see so much of Colin in Greg, in Tim, in Nick, in Kevin. I think his influence will always be with them. His decision to leave and let them pursue their goals, rather than bash heads is what enabled Kinda Funny to be what it is now. That's my romanticized feeling, at least.

As for a positive voice, you're right. I should say I hope he becomes a positive voice, as I think he once was at Kinda Funny, for a time. He has the platform to bring about good. I strongly disagree with his politics, but I think they are partially born from a place of ignorance and insecurity. It's unfortunate that he has chosen to surround himself by people who reinforce those politics rather than challenge him to think and develop.

Andy legit is the best signing they could've done.

It's CR7 to Juventus esque.
