Oh man, playing the highest difficulty is insane. Really can't get my shit together. On hard, I have a really high hit rate, missing 1 - 5 blocks per song on average. But the jump to the hardest difficulty is severe.

First make sure you are consistently doing Full Combos on Hard (with S rating) and then attempt Expert.
You may also consider "no fail" mode to familiarize with bet patterns.

Thanks! As hard isn't a problem anymore, I guess I'll just have to learn the patterns in no fail mode. They are coming so fast though, it will take some practice :)

  • Swap Colors settings added
  • Static Lights gameplay options added
  • No Obstacles gameplay options added
  • "Cut in any direction" tutorial voiceover and text added

  • Fixed calculation of maximum possible score
  • Fixed bug where you can spawn too far from the platform
  • Legendary Hardcore Flying Car!

I also made a new track:

I guess I had too big expectations about the new song - I love most of the original songs, but the new one is meh to me, and it lasts 6 minutes, which is 3x the average length of previous song. While playing it for the first time I was like "just end already!".
Oh well, hopefully other songs will be better. If not, there are always custom songs from beatsaver.

Was not expecting it to be 6 minutes lol. I have the progress counter mod so I when I had that moment of "How long is this?" I could see there were 3 minutes left which help me reset expectations (albeit mid way through the song). That said, I was pretty meh on it until like the last 2-3 minutes where it switches up and then I was like "Ah yeah, now this is good". I doubt the rest of the new official songs will be anything like this one though. I think they just went off script since it's an easter egg.

Tried that song and was underwhelmed. So long and really nothing special. 100$ bills is still my favorite.

I cant wait to get this on PS4. Its looks sooo good. Any word on custom songs for PS4. Could they not add PC modded songs as downloadable songs for PSVR?

I don't think they could do it with the current mods legally speaking so it kind of depends on how the official implementation works. Soundboxing uses Youtube videos for it's custom songs which I believe is fine legally but I'm not sure if it's technically possible on PS4. Soundboxing was built totally around that way of handling it's maps so I don't know if they'll go that way with Beat Saber. Maybe that's why the official map editor its taking so long though.

I just bought this game and I'm glad I found this OT. I bought a Lenovo Explorer in the black friday sale last year, and it had been collecting dust until I got this game. Looking forward to get good enough to start playing some of the customs posted here.

Get some custom sabers from the discord aswell, there are some really nice ones that I prefer over the standard sabers (thin rapier estoc like sabers)

Does the multiplayer plugin still work? I know the modder in question was picked up by the devs....not heard anything since.

So I heard that this was great and I didn't doubt it so bought it today for PSVR. Honestly this must be the most thrillingly excited I've felt playing a game in its first ten minutes since I first imported Guitar Hero and this is more immediately accessible too. Awesome stuff.

Era was right again. I bought the game today and it's a blast. But, I must say I'm really not digging the track list. Really hope we get better songs in dlc soon on PSVR. Or this will be another game that makes me want a PC...

So I am a new Oculus owner and this game is amazing. Last night I played for like 2 hours and I was a sweaty mess, great work out.

I played the main songs, I can do ok on hard but once I get to expert it starts to feel impossible at parts. And the custom songs, some of those, can humans even react that fast.

So how do you get better at this game, is it just memorizing the fast parts? Playing the same track over and over until it's just muscle memory? I just don't see how you can pay attention to the arrows of two different colors when they come at you at a million miles an hour and have a ton right after another. I understand that there is usually a pattern, up down up down and sometimes the other side is a different one. I have even slowed down some songs and it's still hard at those extreme parts.

We were all there :) Expert feels impossible until it doesn't. It's hard to explain, but yeah, repetition, and then intuiting patterns based on previous experience. There are moments of brilliance where you have no idea how you actually hit those notes, but you know you did, almost as if your brain was on autopilot.

First get to a flawless combo with a song on hard, then tackle expert. I was able to do all songs on expert eventually, even before the patch where you could slow the song and repeat selected parts.

Would echo this. I couldn't get more than 30 seconds in to the default Expert songs at first. I just kept pushing myself on Hard, getting familiar with the flows, and testing myself against Expert every now and then until one day it clicked. Now Hard songs are too easy and I can sight read my first time through most custom songs on Expert. The cool thing is that well mapped songs really do feel super natural. You'll find yourself swinging at stuff instinctually not even worrying about the arrow on the box half the time because you "just know" which direction you should swing (again, on well mapped songs).

Wow I am drenched in sweat, what a workout. I was just trying out a ton of custom songs. So this really does work to lose weight?

The songs that go with a dance are the best, what a great job these guys do making the notes go with the dance. Michael Jackson songs are some of my favorites, Thriller was so good. Bye Bye Bye is fun to do as well. Gangnam Style is perfect. I'll get to actual practice to get good at this later. Right now I am just having fun trying out songs.

So how do you guys keep the helmets clean?

BTW we need more 90s dance hits. Rhythm of the Night? Sweet Dreams? Be my lover?

VRCovers. The faux-leather ones. Just wipe down the surface after a sweaty session and they're ready for the next player. To clean the lenses, the economical choice is Kimwipes with a spritz of Purosol, while the convenient choice is individually-wrapped pre-moistened Zeiss lens wipes.

So a new update added Expert Plus difficulties on all the original songs, and holy shit they're hard. I've only passed three...Escape, Legend, and Country Rounds...and all three required a bit of "training" on my part.

Turn Me On looks nearly impossible.

They've also added training mode as part of the base game, not an add-on! Which is nice. The general UI and options have improved significantly, but I can't believe they haven't added more songs yet, minus one or two. It's been over half a year.

Surprised there aren't more normal/hard custom songs. You'd think it wouldn't be too difficult to remove some of the 'not4s' to ease up on the difficulty

Expert only are quite frustrating as you can't get used to patterns on a lower difficulty

I can't agree more. It's hard showing off this game to people because most songs are expert/expert+. They'll find a song they like and I'll have to go "Oh, pick another one this one is expert only".

Though I will say that once you learn a few expert maps, you'll have pretty much learnt them all. They all follow fairly similar patterns.

It's surprisingly a pain in the ass. The trick to a really good map is flow. On Expert that flow is really tight. If you have a pattern that involves you swinging up down up-right high-left with your left hand, you can't just take out every other note or the flow is screwed up. You can cut the pattern in half and stretch it, but then the next pattern that relies on the previous one ending in high-left might get screwed up because it now ends on down.

All that said, IMO if you're going to make a map I personally think you should really commit to making at least one easier difficulty (assuming you started at Expert) if not two.

Thanks for the insight. Do you personally also consider hand placement? Some of the movements make me nervous about smashing my controllers into each other - eg red and blue right next to each other pointing towards each other, or rapid hand swaps so red on the right, blue on the left.

I do personally. Nothing makes me more nervous than two blocks that force you to swing your controllers at each other lol. Other mappers aren't quite as cautious with that though. I've definitely broken the skin a couple times due to that crap and I am not a fan.

This new update fucked with the block height or timing. Game feels totally different in a bad way. I don't even want to play it anymore until it's fixed

Beat Saver Mod not working at the moment? I downloaded the latest version but nothing is showing up, my custom songs and sabers are nowhere to be seen?I I want my Count Doku sabers back >:\

Also, I think Steam VR motionsmoothing might interefere with the timing in this game, I've played with it on and I swear I've missed many blocks that I was sure I've hit. Then I turned it off, everything as ususal, no misses!
