It's so weird that Tekken is rebalancing the game and adding new mechanics in the middle of the World Tour.
I feel this as well. Weird.

Did they give a date on when season 2 start? It's so weird that Tekken is rebalancing the game and adding new mechanics in the middle of the World Tour.
September 6th.
The balance update and additions are free. Thanks, that's weird yeah, especially with it being called season 2 and seem to be specifically aimed at the competitive scene! Is it a free update?
The season pass is 2800 yen in Japan.
It's a true testament to how goddamn good GO1 is that he keeps making it into top 2/top 3 of a game that's had such a consistently high player base.GO1 won another DBFZ second place, dude on a roll! :D
Think this was his 5th consecutive second place at a DBFZ major:
- Combo breaker
- CEO
- Vs Fighting
- EVO
- TWFighter
Is it just me or does Fighting Ex Layer actually have pretty decent art direction? It's clearly not as polished as SFV or Tekken 7 and the animations are kinda wonky, but the character models are surprisingly good considering the scale of the game.

I was whatching the Layer tournament yesterday. I thought it looked pretty fun. But for sure the style of gameplay is not that flattering to the graphics. The animations are just serviceable, but the camera is pulled way back and the characters move pretty fast. The super huge jumps are really strong. Really all these little things that are unique and fun about it sort of work against the look.
The characters and backrounds look quite good when you're seeing them in a match intro or something close up.
Hype tournament this weekend in Taiwan.
Looks like Xiaohai's days of dominating XIV are over, he took 7th place along with KouKou.
Laggia's Kim was super on point:
I'd post this in the BBTAG OT, but the general lack of activity there recently led me to decide against it.
Had been hoping to see some use of Mai in a tournament setting. Being someone who plays both Mai and Orie, yet as point characters on two separate teams (Mai/Es and Orie/Vatista), I questioned the idea of placing both of them on the same team. He was doing alright at first, but then dropped the ball completely once he was one match away from a reset.
He makes more use of Juncture (236) without Himeyuri (A, B, or C after the 236) than I do, to keep the other player on his guard and question whether a Himeyuri is coming or he'll just leave it empty (potentially going for a chain or a throw with the latter). I'd been considering doing more of that, but haven't liked the idea of leaving myself open to more aggressive players by doing so. I would argue that he didn't make anywhere near as much use of her spear throws with her j.BB (charged or otherwise) as he should've, particularly since you can cancel the recovery with Moon Blossom (214) up to twice and stay aloft to throw more than once if you wish, which can also lead other players to overestimate the range on their Distortions as a spear throw or its direction change hits them when it turns out that they couldn't reach high enough to knock her out of the air, the same potentially applying to a punish with Suzuran (A, B, or C after the 214) when an attempted anti-air Distortion or Reversal Action whiffs. Mai's 5C has great range and decent recovery, but he never used it at all during her block strings, so the other player knew that all he needed to do was keep blocking low as long as she stayed on the ground. Lots of missed opportunities, including going for a raw RA with Mai at 6:33 that proved costly after taking the punish then deciding to keep her on point once recovered instead of tagging her out to a full-health Orie, then not spending any meter while comboing a cornered Yang with Orie at 8:18 and going for that 5C that got RA'd after Rage kicked in (seemed they wanted the mix-up after the 2A, but a character in Resonance, particularly a Yang in Resonance who didn't have Rage yet, is not a situation where you choose not to spend the cash after opening them up).
Personally, I prefer the idea of Mai and Orie each being backed up by a character suited to zoning for their anchors, which seems more effective for helping them get in by comparison (yes, Mai's 6P assist is a double projectile, but the range isn't ideal). Es and Vatista's 4P assists are also quite effective for keeping the other player out, though the synergy for Mai/Vatista isn't as great as Mai/Es in my experience. With Vatista and Orie, Lacteus Orbis (236BC) DHC'd into Orie's Luminous Embrace deals all of the damage of both Distortions even if cancelled early, recovering early enough for Orie to either go for an easy corner combo after the beam ends or go for a block string if the opponent is defending during it. Meanwhile with Vatista and Mai, the same beam super DHC'd into Mai's Shearing Cherry Blossom Storm not only does not deal all of the damage of both if cancelled early, the latter also doesn't recover quickly enough for corner combos or block strings. I'm also under the impression that the timing for comboing off of the wall bounce from Mai's 5P assist with Es is probably simpler than with Orie and most likely has more damage potential, but I would need lab time to confirm that suspicion.
Hm, rambled on for much longer than I had intended to, but whatever. Felt like it.
Seem to be concentrating on SFV now, did much better than usual there.
Don't really know about the KoF scene, I'm just basing that around him doing better in SFV lately, so I assume he has been giving it more time.Doubt it, players like ET and ZJZ (aka Gxbridget) just have his number now.
Even ET took 4th place in this tournament.

I'm really excited about the Killian-Riot fighter.
Like... we don't know anything. o _o
Is anyone else excited to finally see what it is? I want to see how much of a traditional fighting game it is.
Tencent is gonna be a problem, they want to chase that BR money, I won't be surprised if it's cancelled.I'm really excited about the Killian-Riot fighter.

Sorry for late response.

Could be I guess but I'm pretty sure Xiaohai takes his KOF rep very seriously.
In terms of all rounders, Akatsuki and Hyde are great options. The first one is very shoto-esque, with Hyde being something similar to Jin from Blazblue.I've been trying to play BBTAG today but it just keeps crashing whenever I go into a battle (apparently something to do with the latest patch on pc?), so I guess my temptation to finally check out what Unist is will take over. Any recommendations on what characters to start out with? I'm new to playing these games online and I like all-rounders and grapplers, so right now I guess I've got my eyes on Hyde and Wald but I dunno who else.
Thank you! (and timed perfectly for when the game installed too)In terms of all rounders, Akatsuki and Hyde are great options. The first one is very shoto-esque, with Hyde being something similar to Jin from Blazblue.
Waldstein is the grappler-iest grappler as in he's the slowest and most mixup heavy. There's also Mika, who is a brawler/grappler. Really though, it's best to experiment with the characters and find out who you like. It's surprisingly easy to find a character that immediately gels with you and not at all uncommon to find multiple in this game.
