I feel like I am playing this game completely incorrectly. I have played and beaten all the Souls games (Dark Souls, Demon Souls, Bloodborne, etc) and I can get through the general enemies just fine, but when I got to that first boss... I spent a good 4 hours on it. Am I missing something here? I feel like I am forgetting a very important mechanic.

is it possible to access any of the dlc missions without new game plus? I started new game plus when the first dlc came out, but all the missions requirement are like 150, and my character is like level 95.

Are you using ki pulse correctly? Are you dispelling yokai realm pool when they appear (with a perfect ki pulse)? Are you switching stances to block and dodge more efficiently? Are you stunlocking the boss as best you can when its ki is drained (each hit will stagger when it's out of ki)? All these things can help, but without more details on the parts that make you struggle it's hard to really give good advice. ^^

Oh... wow. Um, so none of what you just said makes much sense. I think I understand Ki Pulse - but what is Yokai realm pool? How do you ensure a perfect ki pulse? Can you even block the gigantic demon face? I tried and I remember getting thrashed.

The yokai realm pool is that blurry dark aura that sometimes appears under a yokai (they usually generate it when they're out of ki). It regenerates their ki, but prevents/drastically slows ki regeneration for your character. You can dispell them by doing a perfect ki pulse while standing near or in it. In closed space like that ship boss fight, it's important to do it otherwise you will be at a severe disadvantage.

A perfect ki pulse is... kind of like a perfect Active Reload in Gears of War, if you've played that. You regenerate a big chunk of your ki quickly when you do a ki pulse, but when you time it just right (watch the colour of the bar, or the blue light gathering around your character), you regenerate a lot more ki.

You can block some of the boss' attacks but they drain your ki a lot, and can leave you exposed. Still, it can help in a pinch, one of the chain ball attack is hard to dodge IMO and is safer to block. But if you're going to block, it's better in mid-stance, as it drains less ki when you block.

Hope this helps.

Always dodge towards him when he attacks, you'll get behind him and score some free hits. Don't get greedy though and like Morrigan said, make sure to purify the yokai realm pools.

I did manage to beat him, but it just took far longer than I think it should have, which is where I feel like I was missing a major mechanic that I must not have fully paid attention to or simply had forgotten.

I had destroyed him in the alpha and it took me like 15-20 tries to beat him in the final game... I couldn't believe it lol. I just did everything wrong until it finally clicked. It happens.

That 'Way of the Ninja: Veteran' mission, oh my god. Hanzo just threw an infinite amount of crap at me so many times, constantly knocking me out of my heals, out of my combos, I hated it!!!!

Thankfully low stance Kusarigama + paralysis buff did the trick. It felt so good to repeatedly stun that jerk in the corner until he conceded.

I know what you are talking about. If you played hundreds of hours of Soulsborne games too then there might be two things you need to keep in mind when playing Nioh.
Blocking is more important in Nioh. When I play Nioh like DS and try to dodge every attack it just doesn't work.
There are less i-frames in Nioh. You can not dodge out of a combo like in DS. Blocking is always a full block so make use of that. Just keep an eye on your Ki.

95 is fine. I entered it at 74 or whatever. You get so much XP there that it hardly matters.

Can revert back to base difficulty any time you want too.

Joro-gumo? I found her to be the weakest boss in the whole game, I beat her the first time. Goes to show the range of different experiences players can have in this type of games.

I was going to add, the hino enma boss that so many people seem to struggle with I beat first time both on the ps4 and pc so maybe it's just somethig about my play style lol

I'm the same way with souls.. flamelurker, four kings, O&S were all first time kills for me, but then there's some that rarely get a mention like King Allant and the spinning doll things in 2 that gave me real problems

Getting kinda annoyed by the repetitiveness of enemies and the reuse of zones. I even skipped all the sub mission that were in one of the main mission zones. The shorter ones like the bridge fights are ok even though the last one I did with this f*cking revenant that had a ton if HP was kinda lame. He just fell off the bridge at one point....

Are long neck demons' grab the most bs attack in game? I'm on way of the wise and these guys' grab properties are RIDICULOUS. Long range to the point that their attack has an invisible hit box. I've gotten hit from being on a different floor from them too.

Yeah, that one was funny. I beat him first attempt because he fell off the bridge, but went back for like 15 more tries to actually get him down legit. The game definitely has at least a mission per zone that's much more difficult than the level would lead you to believe (the
duel
in the first zone, the
demon
in like the third or fourth off the top of my head), so maybe that's supposed to be one of those, but the guy's pattern was easy enough and he didn't do nearly as much damage as the other 'boss one-offs'.
This is awesome, thanks.

Does anyone here love the hardcover game guides? What's the deal with The Future Press guide for this game - it appears that it never made it to print? I see it listed at Amazon though.

Its been cancelled. They dropped the word on it just a while ago. Nioh is apparently so hardcore that even making a guidebook for it turned out to be impossible.

I have a billion games to play. I played 200 hours of Nioh on PS4, and immediately got Nioh on Steam thinking I'd just play it casually since I had already played so much of it on PS4.

But goddammit, no matter what game I play I just keep having Nioh creep back into my mind. IT WON'T GO AWAY!!! HEEEELLLPPPP!!!

man. they really shoulda released all three at the same time as an expansion pack instead. Wouldve reviewed well. Level design is there. NPC's are there. Cool Shit Happening factor is even higher. What a shame.

I've returned to the game after playing it at release to go through the DLC, and I think I've forgotten how weapon/armor progression works with the Blacksmith. How do I get better weapons and armor, again? I'm half way through the second DLC and still have same weapons/armor from completing the main game. Nothing has dropped with better stats. I am still managing to progress through the DLC but it's starting to become hard as shit, I barely do any damage and I die in two hits or less.

DLC is definitely harder than the base game, but you should be getting better gear. Remember that Divine gear can be improved by soul matching it with other divine gear with a (+#) after it.
You need a soul match a +0 with a +1 to get it to +1. Then you can match +1 with +1 to get it to +2, and so on. You can also just do a +1 with a +2 to get it to +2, it just needs to be equal or higher to raise the + level.

You can also use materials from dismantling divine gear when crafting items to give them a chance to roll divine. Press Triangle when you are hovering over the forge button when choosing materials to add divine materials.

Also you can use divine materials when reforging properties to give them a better chance at rolling more rare mods.

what unlocks the 60 cap on spirit companions and gear tiers above 150? Clearing Strong?
-
ah found it, courtesy of reddit
full leveling progression in the spoiler
I had stored like many others some crazy amounts of amrita for this DLC since we knew that the level cap for both player and Guardian Spirit(GS) will be increased, but all that fell sort to the scaling of levels and the amrita need for the GS, landed around to level 708 started clearing Way of the Nioh(WotN) thanks to TN relaxed the amount of progress needed for every region to unlock and the amount of amrita you earn in every mission is crazy!

Cleared my way until I saw the DLC areas unlocked, Queens Eyes, Marobashi, etc. and thought to give a go switched to my farming gear from WotWise all pieces 250+26 only the weapon 250+30, bit tough but managed scored 55 billions thought to give a second go upgraded the weapon to make it a bit easier and for some reason ended up with 52 billions, well is less but still enough here is the video

For those who don't know the level cap for the player is 750 level, you can increase stats above 99 but that doesn't change the cap of the character

Also the cap for the Guardian Sprits have been increased from 50 that was with previous DLC to 60 and the amrita need for thos 10 levels is 6 billions.

  • From 1-30 you need 3.5 million amrita.

  • From 30-40 you need 50 million amrita.

  • From 40-50 you need 300 million amrita.

  • From 50-60 you need 6 billion amrita
For the player now

Total amount 1.485.204.076.450

Now does it end here?

NO!

After you reach max level a window will pop up will tell that you have reached the max level 750 and now you can spent your extra amrita to "Focus Level" https://imgur.com/HzGP3SP

You have to spent for another 1000 levels amrita in Life, Attack, Defence and Luck each level costs 3 billion amrita, the catch is that those levels and the amrita WILL NOT RESET with "Book of Reicarnation", that's right those levels are permanent so choose wisely! As far as I had amrita popped 17 levels the scale of stats is not big and the costs doesnt seems to change, so I cant say if it's worth at least for those who have reached this point!

Update: After request of some people to check a bit the "Level Focus" stats!

So I farmed some amrita first then went to put them in the Level focus the result how much they increase in level 1000 and how they scale per level :

Life: https://imgur.com/njnQTEK

You gain 1 HP point every 2 levels =500 HP

Attack: https://imgur.com/eAMEgDz

You gain 1 Attack point every 5 levels = 200 Attack

Defence: https://imgur.com/KXp0FrT

You gain 1 Defence point every 5 levels = 200 Defence

Luck: https://imgur.com/VerVwpz

You gain 1 Luck point every 10 levels = 100 Luck

The cost for every level as mentioned is 3 billion until level 36 that I had amrita, the amount DID NOT change at all so based on that 1000 x 3 billion= 3 trillion amrita needed for this to max.

Side notes: I said up that you can't respec the points via "Book of Reicarnation" that was the message that Team Ninja had put to pop after level 750, however you can allocate them from the same menu with the arrows (left-right) from the controller!

CAREFULL

You can allocate let's say an example: you have them in attack and you want to run a luck based build you click the left arrow, you take how many points you want or all of them and put them with the right arrow to luck stat click X a window will pop and tell you if you are sure about this move YES/NO simple!

BUT if by a chance while you allocate them you forget to put them in another stat and click X and again X for YES to the window that will pop then you will lose your levels!!!

You don't gain the amrita back because you already have paid for the levels but not even the level so be carefull with this! I did try it to see what happens and lost 10 levels, don't know if this will be fixed in future patch or is intended this way, anyway be carefull!!!

Hope this helped someone who had questions about levels, costs and what is after, have fun with your farm everyone!
my word, TN really went crazy with how far the ladder stretches.
Kinda nice that, knowing that a game has no feasible hard cap.

60 cap? The cap for the spirits is 50 even at Way of the Wise. Doing the epilogue mission in Way of the Strong should open Way of the Demon. That will increase the cap on the character and spirit levels and the item levels can go up to 200 normally, but the items with those levels will only drop in said difficulty. There should be no effect to the drops in Way of the Samurai / Strong. Each successive difficulty level unlock will work much the same.

In the sense that every weapon is viable to beat the game? Yes.

Can't quite see much of a point to the spear outside of medium stance after the odachi, tho >___>
That thing also seems like a just flat-out better version of the axe, tbqh.

hmm. tbf axe seems to be lacking nowadays. Doesn't have the odachi reach. Doesn't have the spear's reach. Doesn't have a clear dmg advantage. Is as slow as wielding a bag of anvils. You end up doing the quickquickstrong combo 95% of the time. hrm.

Yea, I usually role Axe in souls games but it's clearly lacking. Odachi just seems perfect for my play style. What's a good sub for it if the Spear doesn't really compliment it?

I meant is there one clear best weapon type that maybe trivializes the game.

How much does she cost to unlock? I just got the tea house and I've got a grand total of 1100 glory :( Only one I can afford for now is Hanzo

It's a shame you can't change their armour appearance but I guess that would have been a whole lot of programming
120k, unfortunately. It probably depends on how far you are into the game (and thus the level/quality of the gear you're getting) but I think most of the glory I get at this point is passive income from donating all the relevant gear I get after each mission. Don't forget to do this!

And yeah, most of the male characters probably have the exact same body as William, just scaled up or down, but the female ones would require them to re-model every piece of armor in the game, which is not a reasonable expectation. Maybe in the sequel.

both the kusarigama and the dualswords are perfectly capable of doing that, especially if enjoying an onmiyo build. Is pretty much what speedrunners use. Helps that both are extremely enjoyable to wield. Also helps that they mostly share the same +dmg attributes (mostly).

The regular sword is hella broken too once you're able to stack +backdmg and +finisher.

In the teahouse go to clan battles and then donate. Your clan has a daily and a weekly category of item that they want - eg. Tokugawa wants spears of any type and armor from the Greater Good set right now. Donated equipment is not only converted into glory for you, but that glory also goes towards earning reward packages. Finally, earning more glory than other people in your clan might increase your rank and improve that clan's protection bonus. I think there might also be a glory bonus given out on completion of the weekly clan battles, but I'm not sure about that.

Finally decided to pick up the season pass thanks to the current PSN sale.

I haven't really played the game since completing the main story shortly after release, so I just wanted to know how the DLC's compare to the end game in terms of difficulty (lvl 100 right now) & whether any of the new weapons are worth trying out?

the odachi's good, and the tonfas are fun as heck to use, but cost as much, if not even more, than a good single sword build.
some side missions in the dlc are far harder than anything in the base game.

main missions are excellent. l100 should be fine, you'll struggle for a bit but it throws so much xp at you that you'll get into the swing of things.

You are correct about the last part. The clans on the winning side get more glory and your personal contribution can also lead to a decent windfall. Being among the top.. 1000? within your own clan might also score you a percentage based discount in the glory shop.

The DLC portions form the last 3 regions in the game, starting with Touhoku region. All items and such are integrated into the pool organically, so you won't be seeing any DLC indicators there.
