RIP iconic outfit?

Eurogamer interviewed Kazunori Kadoi, the director of RE2. An excerpt is below but checkout the full article at Eurogame for more news about the atmosphere, dialogue, and Sherry characterization.

On storytelling and character dimension:
Resident Evil 2's director Kazunori Kadoi told Eurogamer's Aoife Wilson at Gamescom about Capcom's approach to modernising Resident Evil 2.

"Taking Sherry as an example, she's a character who in the original game was basically a little girl and very childish," Kadoi said.

"We wanted to add depth to her. Because you're looking at her in a more photorealistic environment, and the characters look more human and realistic, that naturally means we have to add more depth to them, because they're a lot less cartoonish and two dimensional. Back in the day, the storytelling was revolutionary because horror games didn't have stories. We have to meet fan expectations now with games designed for 2019.

"We don't want any scenes where you're not supposed to laugh but you do because of comedy written dialogue," Kadoi explained.
"That's not the intention - that's spoiling the intended atmosphere. It doesn't mean we've gone 100 per cent po-faced, seriousness. The game is still laced with some humour because people have come to expect that from Resident Evil. There are lighter moments, because in horror you always need to relieve the tension once in awhile, just to give yourself a breather, and humour's a part of that."

On Ada:
Lastly, fan-favourite Ada Wong will look significantly different, too. All we've seen so far of her is this silhouette from the Resident Evil 2 E3 2018 trailer.
jpg
"It goes back to the same thing of, what would look natural to be wandering around in a photo-realistic environment in?" Kadoi said. "I think wandering around in that dress just getting on with your job as a spy probably doesn't look as realistic and believable as we want in this new game.

"Exactly what we've done with her design is something we're tight-lipped on, but it's safe to say we won't betray your expectations."

Bonus from previous interviews:
Before wrapping up, we asked [producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi] what their favorite memory of the original Resident Evil 2 was. "I love Ada," says Hirabayashi.

Some of the fandom is in shambles and some are hopeful; I am in the latter especially because they been hyping her up and that the producers love her and been so damn coy about her. The secrecy and the "it's safe to say we won't betray your expectation" makes me really excited for whatever they came up with.

EDIT - lol we made it into two gaming articles by Eurogamer and PC Gamer:
Resident Evil 2 remake fans reckon they've seen Ada Wong's new look before
Here's why Capcom has redesigned Ada Wong's look for Resident Evil 2 Remake

I think as long as she's wearing something red, I'm good. She looked AMAZING in RE6.

They've done a great job with Leon and Claire.

I trust them to do good things with the very aesthetic Ada.

That's fine. I really liked her design in RE6. Also with this much secrecy she must be playable. Maybe a three to four hour campaign.

I think that's fine as long as it's red, I enjoy seeing the new outfits. I do hope they have unlockable outfits too, could even throw in the originals.

I'm fine with it. I think they have something other in mind than having a very cliché hong kong movie dress. I remember that she was even gripping her firearm on the side to "showcase" her chinese heritage. I think they want to define her looks and style beyond her heritage

Her classic outfit was whatever, but she definitely needs to wear something in red, it's her iconic color.

I do find it weird they haven't shown anything of Ada given how much they've shown of everything else so far, but yeah, as long as it's red I'm sure it'll be fine

This doesn't bode well for Jill's default Resident Evil 3 design if a remake ever comes to fruition. Or maybe they'll justify it because she was supposed to be on vacation.

I imagine it will be this, but opened up a bit and with a red top

As long as she is still wearing something red-ish i'll be cool with it.

I also hope it won't end up like

maybe if you beat the game you unlock old costumes for the characters including ada's dress

seems like the most resident evil solution

I would be fine with more context-appropriate clothing, but they really should put her dress in there as an unlockable outfit. If Leon and Claire can have other outfits, so can Ada.

RE2 Ada was actually pretty practical, later versions of the costume with the heels and fishnets obscured the fact that the original is pretty down to earth - just wearing pants and flats.

Still, I'm looking forward to her 'noir' look.

Why are they being so weird about it. This is like the second or third time they've specifically talked about Ada dressing differently but without actually showing her new design.

It hurts that Chris was the one that died for our sins, but they did come a long way with representing old characters in RE Engine. DMC5 has been killing it as well.

I mean if they're going for realism and praticality all for it but based on her silhouette it looks like she's wearing heels which I'd imagine are probably just about a huge pain to wear.

To be honest Ada's design was from a time where women were hypersexualized in games. I'm actually glad some devs are growing up and realizing they don't need to put semi-naked characters for horny nerds. I love the idea of a "detective" Ada a lot, plus it makes sense.

I have a feeling her design is gonna be fucking rad. Can feel it in me bones. Think she'll benefit from these visuals/the art style.

I wholeheartedly agree with consensus here: I'm okay if they change the original dress but the red color has GOT to stay; she is the Woman in Red and the bad "bitch in the red dress". The legacy of her signature color must press onward.

Remember to include a clause in your contract with regards to inapppriate clothing choices. Can't imagine running around like that being easy.

I was gonna file a charge against Wesker and report him to EEOC for that dress he made me wear infiltrating Spain but the pay was good and I lowkey liked it so i was like sure lol

You have a point, haha. And they seem quite high-heeled too! I like them though

They'll still her in a trench coat and give her red earrings or something to thematically tie her back to her color palette.

I'm glad there taking the art direction from 7, loved that shit. I especially love the Umbrella Grunts. I just love the uniformed Black Ops.

You're thinking of RE4 Ada. Ada's attire in RE2 was modest. Scroll up.
