I like the pick, wish they make the hair red.

Although won't watch it in theaters anyway because have any of these adaptations been good? Jungle Book was boring, Christopher Robbin was boring, Maleficent was boring.

lmao

Seriously, though: good for Zendaya and on-screen diversity, but I fully expect this to follow the Beauty and the Beast 2017 template: hideous "realistic" CG designs for the supporting characters, and a running time bloated from 83 minutes to over two hours by the addition of extraneous subplots and forgettable new songs.

Eh. I'm tired of her. She's always already going to be playing a red head in Spider man.

Also, I don't get how some white people can be bothered by this, Zendaya is as much white as she is black.

Oh my god I love Zendaya so I'm 100% happy. I've always felt connected to TLM because of my name but I always wished that there were more people who looked like me in the films I watched as a child.

And with all of the weird people asking about her hair, y'all do know actors dye their hair or wear wigs for roles? Did people make this much of a fuss over Lily James' hair for Cinderella?

She was great in Spiderman. Though it was an easy role to be good in.
I'm sure she'd own it.

I'd be down.
Fucking weird.
Lmfao the fuck bruh?? People are really trying to put science into a movie about a fucking mermaid who talks to fish lmfao
I see only the "response" post there.
To what, is not there.

No complaints here and TLM is my absolute favorite of the Disney princess films. I don't think I've ever heard her sing though.

I guess it's time to give mediocre poc actresses some roles too.

I still haven't seen the live action Beauty and the Beast all the way though. I'm sure I understand why they cast Emma Watson but they really should've got someone who could sing without a heavy reliance on auto tune.

Not a fan based on Homecoming. And there's no way she can sing the iconic song and do it justice. I also don't see her pulling off the bubbly and passionate personality, not to mention the physical acting required when she's mute.

Don't really care about the diversity to be honest. I just want someone who can pull off the role. Clearly having the look isn't a necessity as Emma Watson could not pull off Belle in Beauty and the Beast.

Why? "Not a good actress" is just a dog whistle for "not white".
I see some are already at the stage where they are calling anyone who disagrees with the casting a racist.

I think the concern is that Disney will not dye her hair in the same way they didn't dye it for her role in Spider-Man. However, I never understood the complaints given that Zendaya's MJ is not Mary Jane Watson.

Obviously it depends on the movie. It doesn't matter what a mermaid looks like in this movie. If I'm doing a story about a racist cop seeking redemption or a movie about Julius Caesar then casting would matter more.

Yeah I see your point, it does depend on what kind of film it is.

lmao

Jesus that tweet is so dumb. We have no fucking science on how merpeople skin would look like, if anything, they'd probably have very different skin from humans if they existed, and they'd most likely be bald.

I think Emma fit Belle really well, I imagined Belle more like Anne Hathaway IRL, but Emma is a really good Belle too.

They already backed out with the hard fakeout in Homecoming. This will probably end with her being revealed to be not-Ariel like they'll just call her A throughout the whole movie or some shit.

I mean, that fakeout was dumb. You're freely adapting Spider-Man for the umpteenth time, make a new love interest and call her whatever (not sure why they turned Ned into a different character too when they ripped off another one.)

I think the original Little Mermaid is weak in a lot of respects, but I'm interested to see where they go with the live action more than a bunch of the other remakes. Zendaya seems fine in what I've seen with her in it so I have no strong feelings (okay, maybe I guess keep the red hair because it's underwater mermaid stuff and it doesn't have to make sense.)

Seriously tho, someone that can handle a caribbean dialogue.

Just because I've been watching it on Netflix and enjoying him immensely in it, but Danny John-Jules does a pretty good job with the accent and the guy's got a pretty great voice.

EDIT: Crud, now I'm wondering why the crabs would have carribbean accents but not the merpeople living in the same place. Explain yourself, Disney!

I think it's perfectly fine that someone would want an actor to be the spitting image of the source material, and also not be a racist if you're disappointed that a POC gets cast instead for a white character. Especially with Disney properties where people are very attached to these characters from their childhood.

However, there is clearly a line that can be crossed that disappointment just becomes racism.

So where was the Disney movie set in? Was it Europe, cause there's this young looking Prince dude, who had an American accent? wtf? Maybe he's European but raised in Calfiornia?

Also there's a crab with a Jamaican accent. So he was born near Jamaica, and then somehow swam to whereever Ariel lives?

Let's not even begin to talk about the physics of talking underwater and the fact everyone speaks English like it's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Most of the princess films were set in Europe, and most of them had American actors. I wouldn't take the accents too seriously.

As for where TLM is set, some say Denmark, others say Greece as Triton is Poseidon's son. I don't think it was ever oficially established tho.

Has she ever done any singing professionally? I hope its not overly autotuned like Emma Watson was.

Whoever the supporting cast is, I hope they all have singing chops as well.

E apparently she sings in the greatest showman? Cool
