Hopefully this is the right place to ask; is there any reason NOT to buy a European SNES Classic if I plan to play it in the U.S.? It was easier to find.

So, should i use the IPS patch now packed in with hakchi to get Terranigma working? I see that there's a folder packed with patches and was wondering if that is all i needed, to use that specific IPS patch.

Not sure what's even in that patch, so I'd still do it manually if I were you. There are three possible things you can patch, haven't a damn clue which on Cluster has put into hakchi.

I used the patch in the OP on Terranigma and it works a treat.
Okay, i'll give it a shot. The previous IPS patch i used had no sound and the screen was off center so, hell, ive got nothing to lose!

Edit:Wait, that IS the patch i used. Why is my version not working right then? : / Also, I tried the Actraiser 2 fix and it still just hangs after the Enix screen.

Bummed about these fixes not working for me.

Jumping in here late but a few posts above has me wondering.

Is Terranigma working without Retroarch now?

Edit - Based on the OP it looks like it does now! Can't wait to leave work!

So, the Terranigma patch seems to depend on the header situation on the rom. Seems like the process is: Run Tush to remove the header, patch, then load to SNES mini.

When I load Illusion of Gaia with the patch I get a black screen. I feel like I'm missing something.

Edit: Working now, using ucon64 -l to convert it. I also fixed the checksum, but I don't think that part is needed.

So glad this thread is alive and well!

Question, does anyone have a good live a live and mystic ark snes box art available?

Really happy about the most recent hakchi update. All this time I've been preparing boxart, gathering my additions, patching games that need it, and staying up to date on tricks & tips, and I haven't even hacked my snesc yet.

I basically wanted to do it once and forget about it, so I was waiting for the snesc update to mature. I finally feel comfortable jumping in, tomorrow is the day. Thanks for the tip on setting Jurassic Park to Preset ID A210 to get some of the transparency back, that was the only game I was worried about. It may not be 100% but it makes the HUD transparent which was the big thing.

If all my other games are listed as working without issue on the compatibility sheet, do I need to worry at all about manually setting preset IDs for any of those? DKC2, for instance. Should I check the preset sheet and give it code 0x105D?

Why? DKC2 works just fine.

You never replied to my possible solution to use multiple retroarch cores. Did you try it? Did it work?

Didn't try it, as there was no need since Terranigma and SD3 now work without it. Plus I never got an answer on which games perform better under which cores.

Only games left that I'm waiting to work properly are Secret of Mana and Treasure of the Rudras.

Yeah, so maybe a note in the OP should be added that the roms need to be unheadered for the patches to work. I couldnt get Actraiser 2 or Terranigma to work right with patches originally, once I unheadered the roms and patched them again the roms played perfectly on the SNES mini.

That's sort of what I was asking, if there is any benefit at all to setting IDs for all my games, or if it's only needed for the problem children.
I guess that answers that question.

If a game works, no need to apply an ID for a different game.

Is there any particular reason I should update from 2.21d to 2.21f?

Yes, if you don't want your system to stop working correctly in a few years, you really need to. Plus, it boots a lot faster too.

How does updating work? Can I just overwrite my current folder and then re-run Kernel modding process using any method I want (i.e. enabling disabling mods).

If you have headeread games, it's because you are using old dumps. Probably from GoodSNES.

If you get games from No-Intro, they will have no header.

Q: How can I update hakchi2 to a new version? I don't want to lose my games, kernel image and settings.

A: For portable version (distributed as .zip file) simply copy all files of the new version into the folder of the old version with replacement. Or just copy folders "dump", "games" and "config" from the old version to the new version folder.

For non-portable version (distributed as .exe file - web installer) update process is fully automatic. You will be asked to install new version when it's released.

Would this fix the english translated Dragon Quest III?

Prob not. If the patch was made with an old rom version in mind, then a new version wouldn't work.

thanks for reiterating how to update hakchi. for some reason copying over files makes me nervous, which is silly.

Some folks have had roms for years, maybe even over a decade. Just felt it would be helpful to let people know since the odds that someone loves the SNES, bought an SNES mini, and also has old dumps is likely, and also theyre likely to have a bunch of headered roms that need fixing.

Or maybe it's just me, hah.

Thanks. I guess I'm wondering if I should patch SNES mini again... (I'm really dumb when it comes to this :))

Also, why is Robotrek not on the google doc? I can't get it to boot :(

You're in luck, they just got Robotrek working with a patch a couple days back:

It's not silly, in some rare cases you can mess up a program. But in this case it's OK. :)

My SNES classic is staying boxed up till Christmas, but this will be the first thing I do when I open that baby up. Big thanks to Robin64 for reproducing all his efforts here. I can't wait to get stuck in

Yep. I have GoodSNES, which are all headered. But it's important people know that old rhomz have headers and the newer ones (No-Intro) do not. And if you dump your own games from VC, they should not have a header either.

What do you mean? This sounds like phony alarmism

No. The SNESC internal memory (NAND I believe?) has a limit as to how much you can write to it. Realistically no one will ever reach that limit (I believe it's like 100,000 times?), but the hakchi you have has a function that is constantly writing to the memory, and if you keep it, it can eventually reach a point where you won't be able to save anything to your system.

The new version disables that, and because of that, the system even boots and behaves faster now.

Is flashing the custom kernel again needed for the new hakchi update? I understand it's not needed for most of them.

Yes you have to, otherwise how will the SNESC get the update? The new version has an option where you allegedly don't have to flash the kernel, but I guess that's from the new version forward? If you have the old version, it's best if you manually flash it again.

Madmonkey said it wasn't necessary
, so I assumed the mini got what it needed via the sync. Haven't updated to f yet, I guess I can try it both ways. Boot up is supposed to be much faster so I guess it'll be noticeable.

--edit

yeah, you still need to flash kernel.

So I think I messed up in the update process, I downloaded the latest update and replaced all the files in the Hakchi folder so when I booted it up it didn't show the games I had uploaded on there. Is there anything I should be concerned about?

Have you checked through the whole list? Is there a "more games" folder or somesuch when you browse? I'm testing some things in F right now, and I noticed it altered my folder structure settings from "automatic" to "original games in root/split automatically in subfolder"

This means I have to re-flash and re-synce like 90+ games again :(

Hey! I was told there are SNES Classic hacks in here? Care if I join in?

Glad to see the migration went smoothly ;) Just in time for me to finally be satisfied with my setup. My next step is to make custom folder images to organize my collection better, but that can wait. Odyssey, Destiny 2 PC and Wolf II all beckon me!

As in the actual Snes or Hakchi? I looked through Hakchi and the only thing showing up on there is the Original Games folder while the SNES is still showing the original games as well as the uploaded ones. If anything how would that work when I have it connected to Hakchi? Would I have to flash the original kernel?

oh, so you only have the original game in hakchi on windows too? How many folders do you have in the games_snes subfolder of the hakchi direcotry in windows?
