Bah.

Just a dog and pony show. The only question at this point is how many Democrats vote to confirm him in addition to every single Republican.

This is a shit show. And Republicans don't give a fuck. They'll vote Kavanaugh in and laugh as he does the things they want.

Grassley: You fucking Dems want to follow rules. What a shame!

Is Grassley saying that the restricted documents could be harmful to Trump? As in, he might have tried to ascertain just how forcefully Kavanaugh would protect him from impeachment?

They're "sensitive" and "harmful" to the executive branch.

Come on son Clinton won the popular vote but ignored key Battle ground states. This is 10% on her and 90% on the unintelligent electorate that voted for Trump.

Hence the "hold your nose" part. They knew what they had to do. Now we have two young right-learners on the bench because swing states didn't get told they were pretty often enough.

I know we're all here at this moment in part because of the 2016 election, but let's end the back and forth on Clinton and focus on this hearing. Thank you.

Pretty sure they are torture docs from the Bush years.

No, it's just the general "executive privilege" defense, that the president needs to be able to keep certain things secret from the public record because revealing them would damage national security, foreign relations, etc.

If the Dems get enough control to impeach and remove Trump they also need to impeach and remove every appointment he had made, including his SCOTUS justices.

The Legislative branch needs to take back some power here.

What could they be trying to hide? What in Kavanaugh's record could be a problem?

It's so great that all of this "outrage" means nothing because nothing is going to be done to stop this confirmation. Good job Dems.

Yep, this is all theater. From the moment Kavanaugh was nominated, there was never any serious doubt that he would be confirmed.
Yup. Here's hoping enough people get fucked over Kavanaugh that they decide that maybe not voting is actually hazardous to their personal health as well as the health of our democracy.

Right. There should be nothing to hide, and no problem answering any question.

These hearings should be ceremonial in some aspect that the judiciary committee should be reiterating their role, and the role and importance of justices. You should just be able to read a standard statement that can be used for every single nomination, as an opening statement.

Grassley is doing a terrible job of this so far, and now he's bringing up Robert Bork, and op-eds from newspapers. This is bizarre.

Good thing we fast tracked all the federal judicial nominees too. God forbid the dems ever get any leverage.

My guess is his hard lean on repealing Roe v Wade. There are a few GOP senators that would vote against it if Kavanaugh said flat out he wants to repeal abortion rights. His "correct" statements seemed to have swayed those needed to confirm him, even though everyone knows Kavanaugh would repeal it in a heart beat.

Yeah that makes sense. It's very troubling to me that republicans are acting like this is normal.

Diane Feinstein is a really engaging speaker. I have never noticed that before.

What do you want them to do, shoot kavanaugh? Poison a few republicans that the GOP no longer has a majority? Because realistically those are the only paths to stopping this sham, legal or otherwise.

This both sides crap rises out of posts like yours, and it's BS

This is unreal. Feinstein dispensing with an opening statement to go directly to Roe V. Wade, where she admits she prosecuted women to prison for having abortions, and seeing the resulting horrendous statistics. Then goes on to establish that based on Kavanaugh's writings, he is willing to set aside precedent. Whew.

He was a part of the Bush administration when they decided on their torture policy. He lied about this under oath when he was confirmed for the Circuit Court in 2006. He's a partisan hack who is 100% going to do whatever he can to gut Roe. Oh, and he was suddenly able to pay off thousands and thousands of dollars for debt mysteriously before being nominated.

This is making me fucking sick.
