Gameplay:

Some details from Gematsu: (More at the link)
https://gematsu.com/2018/09/umihara-kawase-fresh-tgs-2018-gameplay
The latest entry in the series, due out worldwide for Switch in 2019, uses a quest-based progression system on a connected, Metroidvania-style map. There is a story featuring various characters, as well as exploration, collection, and cooking. Cotton, who first appeared in the 1991-released side-scrolling shoot 'em up Cotton: Fantastic Night Dreams, will also appear as a playable character.

Some details from Gematsu:

Last year, Success Corporation teased a new Umihara Kawase title for Switch. Today, the company confirmed the game will be titled Umihara Kawase Fresh! and launch in 2019 in Japan. It will also exhibit Tokyo Game Show 2018 from September 20 to 23.

Update from Gematsu
Update 09/05/18 at 10:15 p.m.: Umihara Kawase Fresh! is developed by Studio Saizensen with character design by Toshinobu Kondou, just like previous entries. It also uses the same rubber engine, so the way the controls feel is also the same.

Thanks, @Success_G3.

Update: First screenshot, tweet mentions development progress?

Update 4:

New year's card reveals Umihara Kawase Fresh! is releasing between Spring/Summer 2019

New release window is Spring/Summer 2019, as revealed by a free themed browser game that just went up:

Update 5:

It's happening!

Planned release date: April 25th 2019

More details:

Releasing overseas for the same date, will be handled by a separate company:
https://www.resetera.com/threads/um...releasing-april-25th-2019.66526/post-17213960

Link if you want to (and are able to) import the game physically from Amazon.jp:

Update 6:
So the Success Twitter account is tweeting about the overseas release that is being handled by Nicalis. It mentions that the version published by Nicalis will not contain Japanese language options. (Someone already made a thread regarding Nicalis publishing the overseas release, that will be physical/digital for NA and digital only for everyone else outside Japan/NA. Price: $40 Release Date: July 9, 2019)

Remember that Success's official site for Umihara Kawase Fresh! has mentioned since months ago and still does that the game they're publishing contains Japanese, English and Chinese language options:

Cute art style, wonder if the game is done like that.

Edit:

Didn't realize it came out on 3DS!

Interesting. One of the hardest platformer too lol. Switch fans who devoured Celeste and Shovel knight will go jam for this IP.

I think that's still coming, it's just a limited run physical release for the west wasn't it?

Gematsu posted the trophies list of it recently.

Yes and no. It's getting a few extra things that the JP version didn't have, like an artwork gallery. As a series fan, I want it for that even though I already have Chirari on JP Vita physical.

But I thought we said sayonara to Umihara Kawase!

Glad to hear they're continuing the series.

Wait, wasnt the last game supposed to be the last one? it had Sayonara in the title and everything

They put "Sayonara" in the title because every game had been made under weird circumstances and they really thought they might not luck into getting to make another one.

The series finally has a presence overseas, which I'm sure has a lot to do with them getting to make another game.

:O Umihara Kawase is one of my favorite game series. Very glad that "Sayonara" wasn't forever.

I could always use more Umihara Kawase in my life. So glad to see Sayonara was not the last for the series.

Blade Strangers made me realize that she has a big bosom in pretty much all game covers of the series and this was NOT the image I had of her. I thought it was just cutesy chibi art

I'll still get it though
I think in her 1st game she was a kid but then grew up for the subsequent sequels

Awesome, been waiting for this since they originally announced the plans to make it. So happy that the series is not over with Sayonara (despite the name).

I think in her 1st game she was a kid but then grew up for the subsequent sequels
In actuality she was never really a small kid, since the first game they said her age is supposed to be 19 (20 in Sayonara), the bigger bust was more of a change in Kondo's art style (more than likely to appeal to the perverted otaku crowd).

Yesss.
The teaser last year didn't say anything about it.
Is Success the publisher? Since Saisenzen have been the devs until now, I'm not sure it'd be good to switch otherwise, even though they've been busy on Blade Strangers lately...

Nice to see Success doing console games again with this and Psyvariar Delta.

I think Studio Saizensan actually owns the IP. Same with Code of Princess. Given their working relationship I wouldn't be surprised if Nicalis brings this one west.

Studio Saizensen owns the IP and they're credited on the website, but I don't know who's actually making the game.

To my knowledge, the only Umihara Kawase game made without the direct input of programmer/co-creator Kiyoshi Sakai is the PSP port of the second game, which was widely panned for being inaccurate the point of unplayability, so I really hope he's involved.

(Incidentally, he just released a Sayonara Umihara Kawase port for Android, self-published and licensed from Saizensen, with an iOS version coming soon: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.sakaigamedev.umibyeadr)

Yeah I know they own the IP, and why I was worried about other devs :p
Hopefully we get some interview from TGS...

Please no!
I'd like it to release in EU and have a better publisher there...
