We saw this coming for PS4 before summer and western titles won't help. Next 4 months will be hard but Sony will have some kind of promotion for holidays again most likely.

We live in a world where A mainline 3D Mario game leaves the top 20 before a Zelda game

I'm kind of surprised at Odyssey's lack of staying power tbh, I was hoping it would stay at the top for longer (but still almost a full year of top 20 is still prety great for a 3D mario)

BOTW is up 27% Q2 to-date vs 2017 and trending up. New console attach rate for Q2 FY18 is up at 15.5% from 10.9% in FY17. Total drop from FY17 to FY18 is going to be really minimal through 3/31/19. Launch month was FY16.

MK8D is up 6.9% same frame. New console attach rate for Q2 FY18 is up at 29.8% from 22.9% in FY17.

LTD or only this year?
If it's the former then it's almost inevitable that will happen.
Switch sold 1.3m between November and December last year.
The latter is pretty much impossible yeah.

2 millions in 4 months ?

They sold 1.8m last year between September and end of the year, despite supply issues and with only Odyssey as a big game.

They are going to crush this figure easily.

SE did their best to ensure it couldn't sell well in Japan. If it weren't for Nintendo publishing outside of Japan who knows how badly overall it would have done

They don't really seem like the kind of titles for an additional audience (non-PS4 owners).

There's 7M units on the market, and no earth moving software on the horizon. The overlap between people that don't have a PS4 and those that would buy one for the new releases coming out through the end of the year has to be a pretty narrow band.

Regarding Octopath and not being in the top 20, it's also in part because the cutoff is higher.

Last week Octopath sold 4.611 at spot 16, with 20 being 2.345. This week 20 is 4.830, so even if Octopath had an increase in sales, it still might not have charted, despite selling more than last week.

That said I don't expect it to hold near 4.611, or increase.

Tbf to this one, the main reason is happening like that in the US is apparently because Wada is friends with the CEO of Aksys.

Aksys founder and CEO Akibo Shieh and Wada are long-time friends, and the two had planned on working on a project together for a while. They've been developing Little Dragons Café for two years now. The title is Wada's first since 2016's Birthdays the Beginning, a sandbox game about creating and nurturing life.

3D Land, which sold 2m+, launch aligned, was already selling less than Odyssey. Splatoon, Kart and Zelda are selling like DS evergreens—Odyssey is selling like fine. Also, there's more competition in the platform department with Kirby and Donkey Kong.
