By leaving them be you just have easy centralized places for more and more terrible people congregating and concocting worse and worse schemes to harass, injure, and get people killed. Closing down these platforms is the only way.

I never thought I'd suggest this, but I think we're at the point where internet anonymity needs to go away. People responsible for things like this need to be tracked down and thrown in jail, which is hard to do when they hide themselves behind VPNs and proxies.

IMO 4chan's what'll happen to Reddit if they don't shut down the_Donald soon. /pol/ has just infested the place, to the point where no normal adult should want to go on any of the boards. If you shut down /pol/ now, it wouldn't do shit. The infection's spread too far across the site.
