It is kinda funny, Destiny 2 is the first game I've ever played where players are constantly arguing that they want MORE RNG. Every single time the token system comes up, people rage about it, but in essence, the token system and the RNG drop system are the exact same, except with the token system being a more normal distribution. For example, if in cruicble or raid you got a drop 25% of the time or got 5 tokens (20 per turnin) both of those would result in an item every 4 matches. Only difference is the former gives higher variance where you can get lucky or unlucky and the latter flattens the curve with a reward exactly every X games. Everyone calls out the token system as the worst thing ever and they want raid/cruicble drops back but it would literally change nothing, the issue is the number of tokens needed for a turnin not the token system itself. In WoW's most recent expansion, the main criticism of the new legendary system was that it was random, and you would just always hope for a drop. Everyone said the whole time they wanted a system where you could just get tokens for every thing you did and buy a random legendary after some amount of time, the exact opposite argument. I guess players are just never happy. Destiny 2 has a lot of issues with endgame, but token system isn't one of them in my opinion, and the community is wasting its time railing against something that, if removed, won't even help the real issue.
Now I personally agree that token rewards feel "less epic" than drops, but still every other game I've played the argument has gone in the other direction. I personally would prefer a system with X% loot chance drop with token rewards every Y games, balanced to be the same total drops, so you felt lucky sometimes but had tokens as backup to protect against the worst luck.
Also, I WANT RANDOM ROLLS BACK, so I'm not against RNG. It is just funny to me that I've played many games in the past with people complaining about too much RNG and people saying "if you didn't have it you'd be complaining things are too boring" and D2 is the first game I've played where people are actually complaining that they want MORE RNG (as I do), just shows those people in the past were actually right, no one is ever happy (until an actual happy medium is reached).
