I'm assuming the people in the helicopter will be the next arc and are responsible for dumping those chemicals on the walkers?

Imagine if other places in the US are starting to go back to normal and TWD universe is just in it's own little bubble thinking the world is over?

Not a classic but probably one of the best episodes of this season.

I can't wait for the triumphant return of the garbage people. Though it does seem stupid that Rick would ever trust them again.

Duuuude... The helicopter though! That was totally unexpected. I really wonder what that's all about.

How has this season been? I haven't sat down to watch a single episode yet. All are on my PVR though, so maybe tonight.

Is it just more of the same? Last season left me wanting, and it's easy to notice that the show is repeating the same formula over and over again. Or at least was.

Probably the best episode of the season so far. Not having the dumb shooty shooty band bang and actual interesting things happening to the characters helps.

But goddamn it, fucking trash people again.

So many people died because of Negan or trying to kill him... Too bad Gabriel didn't just shoot again... Doesn't make sense

I thought the scenes between Negan and Gabriel were pretty good. The stuff at the Sanctuary wasn't particularly interesting, though I guess it was important to see that Negan really is the only thing holding the Saviors together. Without him, things start to fall apart pretty quickly...

Best episode of the season by far.

Is Gabriel bit?

What's the over/under that Rick gets captured and then he'll make a threat that he's going to kill Jadis before plot convenience saves him from certain death?

That helicopter. Anyone else here watch Fear The Walking Dead? Possibly crossing over soon?
I don't think the helicopter will have anything to do with Fear. The main show is currently much farther ahead in the timeline than Fear is, so having a character from that show appear right now would likely spoil whatever winds up happening in season four and beyond in Fear, unless a character just never meets up with the rest of the group again after the most recent season's ending or something.

Fear is recording in Houston, TX for season four, so I think the crossover they announced is Fear's cast running into Abraham before he leaves Texas on his "save the world" journey with Eugene and Rosita. Abe's actor hinted at it a while back on his Twitter too.

Get to the choppa!

Yeah been a while since there was a bit of mystery.

We had a functional tank at one point. A functional chopper is plausible. Probably a nearby tribe that's got some tier 3 gear.

Kinda scary that Negan worked with kids before everything.

Also I'll be pissed if they have a flashback showing Gabriel saving Negan and getting bit in the process.

Lmao I was thinking the same thing.

At first I thought he maybe got sick from the guts and all that but it's possible he was scratched.

The junk-yard theater troop is back! I hope we get to see Rick channel Gandalf at Helms Deep when he arrives just in time at the front of the junk-yard mime army.

I liked learning more about Negan through his dialogue with Gabe, and then seeing exactly what he was telling Gabe come true when he brought order back to the Saviors standoff. Negan is a monster and a killer, but it was good to learn more about how he sees himself and his own purpose.

Gabe appears to be bit. Or, it could be he just got sick from the zombie guts. Negan kind of foreshadowed this when he asked if anyone had ever gotten sick before from the walker camouflage.

I'm finding Daryl's turn of character to be abrupt and weird. They've been showing him being more severe in the last few episodes, but to completely abandon Rick seemed like a stretch.

I've been thinking the same thing, it's the guts that made him sick. I really fucking hope he isn't bit and ends up dying.

I'm guessing that helicopter belongs to either The Scavengers or The Saviors. But if it's the Saviors I wonder why Dwight didn't warn Rick and the communities about it.

Also this episode makes me think that it was Simon or one of Negan's lieutenant that ordered all the men from Oceanside to be killed. Seeing how mad Negan got when Simon suggested killing all the people at The Hilltop, I can't see Negan being ok with every guy being killed.

Not a bad episode, enjoyed the Negan and Gabriel scenes. The preview though for next week made me remember that we haven't seen Carl or Michonne since the premiere.

Haha yeah you are probably right. I just know they have helicopters and are at least heading in the direction the mainline TWD cast resides. Makes more sense that the crossover would be in the FTWD universe though.

damn, finally a good episode this season. liked a lot of the caracter development and some interesting scenes. the conflict with daryl and rick felt forced.

hope partially restored.

but it looks like the budget of the show was halved...

There were some pretty good scenes sprinkled throughout.

Good:
  • Negan isn't JUST pacing around, leaning back, and pointing at people with Lucille. Finally.. FINALLY we see another side to him that shows the audience he's human. As usual though, I felt like the time they spent with Negan/Gabe was a blown opportunity. They should have spent more time with Negan/Gabe shooting the shit and Negan confessing stuff, using his charm to get a laugh or two out of Gabe.
  • Rick seeing the chopper was cool, and he really sells that scene well as he is immediately taken back to when he saw a chopper in the very first episode of TWD.
Bad:
  • Characters still seem totally unpredictable and are often used for cheap thrills, sacrificing their characteristics/personality. Gabe attacking Negan makes no fucking sense. The dude just saved fucking GREGORY for god's sake. He spends his time trying to get Negan to confess and talks about finding his purpose, bringing people closer to God.. then just randomly decides "nah fuck it I'm gunna try to kill him"? Sigh. Forced fight between Rick and Daryl felt out of place. That little push from Daryl was so dumb, lol.
  • Zombies apparently are a complete non threat now. The show doesn't even try anymore. So we can sit down and have a cool/collected chat after a zombie BREAKS THROUGH THE WALL, and hundreds are right behind it? It doesn't even get killed till minutes later, when Negan decides it's time to form a plan to get out. Then he just recklessly pulls the damn thing through, and for no reason whatsoever, zombies decide to not pour into the new hole he just created. That was incredibly stupid. Then, we find out that Gabe can pop off rounds literally trapped in the center of scores of zombies, shoulder to shoulder, and live. What the fuck is the point of the guts if you can just fire carelessly and run right through them all?
  • Horrible, horrible acting from side characters. Literally everybody at the table during that meeting had bad scenes aside from Trevor and Eugene. The dude with lighter hair and the woman were just god awful.
  • Again, each episode doesn't really feel like it's building toward anything. The show/season still feels purposeless, 5 episodes in.

It really isn't. What the Saviors did to him has been bubbling over for a while now. He wants to destroy them more than anything.

The helicopter is a nice mystery but Im not sure why people are so shocked. Just like cars and bikes, they can be salvaged, gas put in and used. Its not like we saw a t-rex roaming Alexandria.

Wonder if they are just slightly hinting at

the commonwealth and New world order arch?

in reference to the helicopter.

Is there a comic thread?

Doesn't a helicopter require a fuckton of fuel? Seems strange to be able to find enough to just fly around at this stage of the story, doesn't it?

It was a cool episode but I'm tired of the "I'm evil cause if I weren't evil, everyone would die" reasoning behind villains.

After almost bailing on the series after a bunch of terrible episodes, Neegan saved it. There's something about this charismatic psychopath that's likeable. Hes more interesting than any of Ricks crew. And where is Michonne's screen time!

I think Gabriel got sick from the zombie guts. When they were about to smear it on themselves he said something about people getting sick from it.

Also, I seem to recall, in the opening, when they hear gunfire outside and they talk about the RPGs being in the cache. Did Negan mention a "firebird"? Could that be the chopper? Could remember wrong though. I was pretty tired when I watched the show last night.

Also, the saviours in the factory are they all that's left?

Solid episode. They really took far too long to show us that side of Negan. Really, the Saviors in general. The writers have made the entire group basically mustache-twirling bad guys which makes it hard to watch for a season and a half.

As for Gabe, I feel like if he were bit, they would have just showed that, right?

That was such a throwaway line. We've been watching people do that trick for seasons, not just on this show but tons of times on Fear as well. No one has ever gotten sick

To suddenly get sick from it would be some cheap out-of-nowhere plot development. You have to establish that something like that can happen before you use it for a cliffhanger.

'The Walking Dead' Ratings Fall To Lowest Result Since 2011
Any episode of The Walking Dead that finds close pals Rick Grimes and Daryl Dixon scrapping is already problematic. Add a new empathetic angle to villain Negan and helicopters hovering over the zombie apocalypse and you have a clearly special show of the AMC blockbuster series.

However, with all that and a rising Sunday Night Football and the American Music Awards on NBC and ABC, the November 19 TWD ended up with a very different type of distinction. The Season 8 "The Big Scary U" episode fell a six-year ratings low for the series based on Robert Kirkman's comics.

Or, to do the math, with a 3.4 rating among adults 18-49, TWD had its worst result since November 20. 2011. That Season 2 "Secrets" episode drew a 3.1 among the key demo. Week to week, TWD was down 13% among the key demo.

In a season that has seen TWD stumble in live + same day results since its October 22 premiere, the fifth episode of Season 8 didn't do much better viewershipwise. Snagging an audience of 7.9 million, Walking Dead had the least sets of eyeballs since the penultimate episode of Season 2 on March 11, 2012. While not the least watched episode of the season, that "Better Angels" ep had 6.89 million viewers. Looking back to the November 12 TWD, the November 19 episode declined 10% in viewers.

On the Live + 3 metric, TWD has seen lifts of around 40% over the first four episodes of this season, a fact that keeps AMC smiling

Hopefully with more calm between Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus' characters, The Walking Dead will break for its winter finale on December 10. The series will be back early in 2018 for the rest of the All Out War tale.
