Just booted this up for the first time after buying it last night and thought I'd have a look at the store before I begin; holy hell Ubisoft went full-fucking-tilt on the micro transactions this time around. Jesus, I'm surprised there isn't more controversy around it given what's going on elsewhere in the industry. Store is absolutely jam packed with items and currency to buy. If I'd known it was this egregious I would have thought twice about buying the game.

That's because it's just whale bait. You'll never need money in game as it drops loot constantly at you and its only way to spend it is buying clothes; the game still throws lots of money at you so whatever.
Now, you could argue that the "premium costumes" are a lot and they still cost money, well you can get them from in game lootboxes (buyable with game currency) so it's not that they're gating out content from us.

It's probably the best implementation of MTX I've seen in a game, specially coming from Ubisoft.
I've seen a few folks mention completion percentages, where do you find that?

It's a relief to hear that! I love the AC series and I'd be legit upset to see it get carved up in the service of micro transactions.

*Visits store, is surprised to find content*

There isn't any controversy because Ubisoft doesn't intrude on the gamer with their system. It's there for people who want it, but can be completely ignored by people who don't, and it's not an integral part of the gameplay experience like Battlefront, NFS or COD. They even put all that stuff in a seperate menu so you never have to look at it again.

It's because the drop rate for loot in AC is very high, and most items are purely cosmetic. Even the 'timesavers' are completely irrelevant, even if (or perhaps even more so) when you only going to mainline the game.

I feel AC's micro transactions always have been the most 'optional' out of all AAA games, as their benefit is negligible. Though I agree knowing that these items exist for you to be purchased either with in game or real currency (or to be randomly obtained by a once a day quest) can be detrimental to your enjoyment of the game.

Maybe there isn't more controversy because best weapons, outfits and and montures are only available as reward from in-game activies.

Just beat Giza storyline.

Edit: let me add

I've been to Egypt several times and the mystique behind the spine and the three pyramids always creep me out so to be able to explore them in this game was very uncomfortable for me to say the least lol

Are the micro transactions that much more than previous years? Feels like they've been a thing for a while now going back a few games.

As it's a single player game and none of them are particularly crucial to progressing in the game it doesn't seem that big a deal in the grand scheme of controversies nowadays.

They're fewer than Unity that's for sure. That game begged you for your money. One more thing to hate about that pos.

Time savers microtransaction are present since AC:Black Flag I think and the way it's displayed is pretty similar to AC:Syndicate. I don't remember how was the microtransaction layout for AC:Unity.

feel like most of the outfits i've seen so far (just now entering Faiyum) haven't been super great. i've stuck with the Persian Prince (lol c'mon Ubi) outfit for most of the game

It's unintrusive and not necessary for anything. You can go the entire game without ever looking at it or even being reminded it exists. The in-game economy is well-balanced and it never feels like it's trying to starve you into purchasing stuff on the store. If a game is going to have an online store, this is how it should be handled.

I'm still in the one with the metal lion (?) head mask/helmet thing I got from the Temple of Sekhmet (I think) just after I left Siwa. Looks good, makes Bayeks voice a hit muffled though.

This looks pretty cool but must be the biggest bullshit way to get I've ever seen.

Get muthaphukin fucked.

With most either being colour variations or weird Destiny/Mortal Kombat looking weird shit, something that actually looks the part is locked away like this.

The more I play this game the more unsettling Reda becomes - is it not super creepy to anyone else that this kid who looks 7 years old is telling you to go kill people who threaten his business? What's the story here, is this kid possessed or what?

Definitely less than Unity and Syndicate which were littered with Helix credit reminders. I'm glad they ditched that companion app stuff too. "Here's a chest, but you can't open it unless you play our app too."
The only time you'll see Helix stuff in Origins is if you check out the Heka chest or go to the store itself.

Yeah locking an outfit [or anything really] behind a Twitch Prime account of all things is stupid as hell.

I started Sunday with my save reading six hours. I'm over 40 already. This game is fantastic. Love Bayek as a character.

I finally played this for about an hour on my X1X last night after purchasing it on the MS BF sale - last AC I played was Black Flag which I enjoyed quite a bit but got bored by the side quests. Told myself I'm only going to do side quests sparingly for this one. So far so good! The parkour and movement is so good in this game. Combat is much improved so far. You can tell they put some good work on the side quests. Senu was well implemented as a mechanic. And of course the graphics and HDR in 4K is just incredible. My vote for the prettiest game of 2017 that I've seen. Hope this one doesn't get too boring or repetitive like the other AC games I've played.

The counterweight puzzles in the tombs suck balls.

I realise I sound quite negative tonight, I do like the game honest!

If you don't have Amazon Prime you can get the one month free trial and it comes with twitch prime free as well. Allows you to unlock this outfit which I agree looks fantastic in-game.

Yeah got it also. Thanks

Those end upgrades with Carbon Crystal are crazy tho...
Have the feeling its a push towards microtransactions to complete those.

They are mostly (only?) found in the small white chests. Just use Senu to scan for treasure chest and you should be golden, there are more than enough carbon crystals in the game.

Ugh I just sold a bunch of junk for the first time in my 20 hr playthrough. Didn't know about that achievement.

Anyway how do you get the Twitch prime gear after signing up?

They're in some pretty random places, but reliably can be found in tombs and in the larger forts with multiple treasures to loot one of them is usually a carbon crystal. After completing all the locations in the game I ended up with about 20 more carbon crystals than I needed to do all the legendary upgrades, so there are definitely more than you need in the game and no reason to purchase a microtransaction if you didn't want to. You can also purchase them from Reda for 3000 in-game gold but I didn't find that necessary either.

Did you actually play the game yet?

Thr microtransactions don't get in the way and arent intrusive. I'm 20 hours in and haven't felt the need to buy anything extra. Only visited the store once to spend the free credits they give.

Of course if you're turned off by mts by default I can understand your concern, I'm not defending that.

We need more helmets like those. Disappointed there isn't an Anubis helmet we can wear similar to:

The Lizard's helm

That's the shit I was talking about when I asked if there was going to be any cool masks we can wear, but it's pretty damn scarce in that area. If there was one thing Unity did right from what I watched, it's that cool level of customization.
