It's a figure of speech. :) But yes, that is the gist of it.

The funny thing is I got those at Wikia, but they came out the way I posted them in that Imgur post. :/
if I right click save as after opening those links (I added another one btw) I get the transparent png

working on the others now

can you give me the names of the remaining ones? I noticed they're a pain to cut out since they have too much white in the outlines which messes up the magic wand :/

edit: loool or just download this all-in-one home entertainment solution form microsoft(r) http://vgboxart.com/resource/2479/zone-of-the-enders-the-second-runner-render/

do you need them large? http://www.ruru-berryz.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/10/Zone_of_the_Enders_2-2.png

you could also steal from the official website (go "view background image" on the one in question, but they're often overlapping, not separate) for larger versions

Just checked the original link above and yeah, they're smaller than I expected. Plus, I'm doing Orbital Frames and the human characters as seperate sections in the OT, so they'd need to be seperate.

Characters:

Dingo
Ken
Nohman
Viola AI
Leo

Orbital Frames:

Jehuty
Ardjet
Neptis
Vic Viper
Anubis

Listed them all here just in case!

overlaid the jpgs on the ones from the official site and replaced the covered up bits from their drivers with the jpg version and cut off the rest, then adjusted for color/saturation differences. should be all now, right?

Updated the OP's "How to make a claim" section in 1) to align with the forum restructuring:

HOW TO MAKE A CLAIM:
1.) Copy the code below depending on what kind of topic you are planning to make.

"Video Games" Forum (Game releases, game events, community hangouts):
Code:
[b]TITLE[/b] by [url=LINK TO YOUR RESETERA PROFILE]USERNAME[/URL] ([url=PERMALINK TO YOUR CLAIM'S POST]TODAY'S DATE[/url])
[URL=LINK TO OFFICIAL RELEASE DATE SOURCE - no speculation!]RELEASE DATE[/URL]
For Community/Hangout threads not tied to "release dates," please indicate when you plan on posting it! These dates are needed for me to know when to check if it's been posted and then remove it from this list. If you are posting it moments after the claim, you do not need to claim it in the first place. Please be mindful of this.

"Entertainment" Forum (Movies, TV, sports, books, music, toys, celebrities, etc):
Code:
[ENT][b]TITLE[/b] by [url=LINK TO YOUR RESETERA PROFILE]USERNAME[/url] ([url=PERMALINK TO YOUR CLAIM'S POST]TODAY'SDATE[/url])
EVENT/RELEASE DATE

"EtcetEra" Forum (Politics, culture, science, health, humor, random off topic stuff, etc..):
Code:
[ETC][b]TITLE[/b] by [url=LINK TO YOUR RESETERA PROFILE]USERNAME[/url] ([url=PERMALINK TO YOUR CLAIM'S POST]TODAY'SDATE[/url])
EVENT/LIVE/POST DATE

Please note the changed forum structure and split of the former Etcetera forum into Entertainment and Etcetera. More details here.

updated #2 of the guidelines:

"You'll update us if you change your mind or when a release date changes! Do so through DM or a post with the new date! If you don't update a claim's release date and the entered post/release date passes, the claim gets deleted as I'm not doing your work for you!"

Cornbread is setting a good example in the post above this one! :)

Hollow Knight XB1/PS4 by Dancrane212 (September 12th)

Tied between asking for the current OT to be moved back to gaming with a new title to reflect the ports (again) or just reposting/expanding it as an OT2, and then asking for the previous one to be closed. Figure a clean start would be the better option but anyone else have an opinion on this?

with 159 pages I think a fresh start would be appropriate (with a link to the original one in case anyone wants to read up on discussions there)

Guys, quick question: should all content be original or can we take either design or copy from official sources?

Makes sense to display relevant information and art assets as intended. Your post will inform people and could potentially determine whether or not they make a purchase, after all.

Great guys, thanks a ton. Going through the motions on PS now.
EDIT: I understand the OT should go up a couple of days before the release.

Btw for the Distance OT considering posting it closer to the midday unlock time they've decided upon (as of time of writing still ~18 hours away) to shorten the period people have to wait to play the release version of the game which features some significant changes from the EA version already playable. Just thought I'd mention this for reference for anyone wondering.

Thought I'd give an overview of some of the benefits and features of the SVG image format, used for the Distance OT I posted today, which features lossless animation (apart from Internet Explorer/Edge) and mobile/desktop widths and brings a number of new things to the table for OT creation.

Typically online SVGs are seen used solely for vector website icons and logos though their flexibility extends considerably past that. Anything from video to entire web pages can be contained within them.

When SVGs are embedded on sites within an img element (how we embed images on this forum) certain things become unsupported however such as anything dynamic and/or externallly referenced (embedded links, Javascript, video, iframes, GIFs and external images are all disabled). Despite this it still supports an array of useful features. Of the more relevant for thread creation purposes these include:

  • CSS and SMIL (native SVG) animation. This can be used for either vector/element animation or raster sprites.
  • Raster image (JPEG/static GIF/PNG) and vector image embedding support, the former using via base64 encoded data URIs.
  • CSS media query support for alternate mobile/desktop widths.
  • The ability to use JPEG images with alpha transparency instead of PNG, by using one image as the base and another as the mask, for greater filesize savings compared to large PNGs.
  • Native text elements and embeddable fonts.
  • Can use both SVG and HTML elements.

In general these also can all contribute to filesize savings, especially for larger designs which would otherwise be a single raster PNG or JPEG. The entire Distance OT for example is 2.3MB, which is barely the size of many reaction GIFs.

Practically this opens up a lot of new possibilities, obviously, though it's not without some key downsides:

  • Familiarity with CSS and HTML.
  • If aiming for more complete cross-browser accuracy requires more testing, along with butting against the various quirks each browser has. Eg: IE/Edge doesn't support CSS/SMIL based animation or transforms at all apart from extremely basic properties like 'visibility'.
  • Additional time to create compared to outputting a static image from an image editor.
  • Fewer available image hosts for hotlinking.
  • Not a replacement for long GIFs based on video/footage (native Mp4/WebM embedding support RE, pretty please).
  • Overall the images are still scaled down/up like regular images, so despite CSS/HTML support it's unlike a changing a viewport width with regular web pages since everything is inherently being scaled smaller/larger.

So that should give some basic idea of the format. Maybe not for everyone but it's a solid alternative to have. Among other more general uses I've experimented with for example are animated lossless screenshot comparisons, which in the past have sometimes been posted as limited palette GIFs.
