With universal crossplay slowly becoming a reality and the games that benefit from it being mostly GaaS titles exclusive in game items might be the next battleground for exclusivity deals.
Take the example of the Galaxy skin:
In popular GaaS titles an exceptional exclusive skin can be a great way to advertise your platform on other platforms via crossplay. You lock the item to your storefront and you'll have a chance to get more people into your ecosystem. It's an advertisement for your platform that people pay for delivered directly to your competitors customers eyeballs.
I feel like we'll see many of those in the future for big GaaS titles and not limited to skins either. Destiny 2 could get very interesting if cross progression was introduced but weapon acquisition (not usage) was still locked. The world of exclusives just got more skeevy.
