The SNES app for Switch won't be long. I have my fingers crossed. And all the hard work this community and others did the get SNES apps working on Canoe will come in handy for SNES porting.

SO GOOD

Now they just have to figure out a way to stop Nintendo from banning hackers.
There will be a SNES app and an N64 app next year, I think.

But I also think they will each be treated as an add-on subscription to Nintendo Online Services, maybe like $10-20 more a year per system.

NES games, and by extension SNES games etc, aren't just a bonus feature of Nintendo Online Services. They're exclusive to NOS. There's no more ala carte, you can't just get the games you want. You either sub to NOS or you don't get VC. And regardless, you can never own VC titles on Switch.

My conviction that this is the plan is only strengthened by the fact that the NES replica controllers for Switch that they are selling for $60/pair only work with the NES app and nothing else. Or to put it another way, the controllers are completely useless if you aren't subscribed to Nintendo Online Services.

The box even has prominent "ONLINE" branding.

I was looking for this post forever ago. Is something similar available on SNES? I did it on my NES and love it.

I believe there is an HMOD you need to install called "Custom Filters" and then you apply some tags to command line

https://github.com/ClusterM/hakchi2/tree/stable/user_mods/snes_custom_filters.hmod

https://old.reddit.com/r/miniSNESmods/comments/759fbb/snes_classic_clean_scanlines/

Here is a video that shows some of the differences:

To be fair, you can only buy them if you subscribed to NOS...

Hey folks. Had my pc die on me this week and had to go about formating and reinstalling the whole drive/windows, so I lost my Hakchi folder. If I redownload hakchi CE and plug in my hacked snes mini, will it cope with that & normalise the settings on Hakchi's end etc, or is there anything I should do first before plugging the mini in, in this instance? Basically just don't want to plug the sners mini in and have everything wiped off of it or anything. Cheers!

He's constantly angry that everyone only uses the SNES Classic to hack it and not to play with it.

Games I've beaten on my SNES Classic:

- Entire DKC Trilogy (with all bonuses)
- Chrono Trigger
- Contra 3, numerous times. Fuck Hard Mode big time. I don't think this was meant to be beaten by a human.
- Earthbound.
- Zelda.
- Mario World (96 exits)
- Yoshi's Island (100% with all bonus levels).
- Top Gear
- Super Metroid
- Super Mario Kart (150cc all gold)
- StarFox
- StarFox 2 (on Expert with star ranking, twin blaster unlock for all characters).
- Megaman X
- Terranigma
- TMNT 4
- Marvelous
- Demon Crest
- Super Mario RPG

... and a few others that I can't remember at the moment. I've put so many hours into this it's nuts. I'm so grateful for sluffy getting so many of those games to work! Boy do I wish he would find a way to come back "incognito" and patches would just magically appear on the net for other games.

Uhm, no. The SNES Mini is about installing as many Retroarch cores as possible, attaching a vast number of devices to your machine, loading up Brutal Doom for 2 minutes and seeing that yes it's Doom, and then asking people on the internet what you should play because you now have several thousand games and can't choose which one to load.

You have any problems with input lag on Mario World?

Guys!

I just bought the console, I went to kernel, flash uboot, normal mode. It worked alright. Loaded games and they appear on custom games hakchi, when I press sincronize it says I need to plug in my Snes but it's already plugged in. Tried using the console and only the original games appear.

What am I doing wrong?

Edit: Nevermind, I'm stupid. :P

Maybe a dumb question, but I haven't added any games or anything since my original hack (1 year to the day oddly enough) anyways, at the time a couple games weren't fully working like RandR Racing and Uniracers. Now that it seems these have been patched, how do I go about getting the working version on my system? Do I need to delete and download new ROMs, or just re-sync with Hackchi, or update Hackchi, or both?

No matter which version of Hakchi I'm using, my SNES is not being recognized while flashing the Kernel. I'm following the directions exactly as specified, yet nothing.

Can anyone here provide some advice?

I bought mine a week ago, used the guide here and it seems to be for a different version/time, it didn't work for me because I was selecting the wrong options. Looked in google and found one that worked for me:

Thanks for your help. The instructions in that link are very similar to the ones listed here and in videos I've watched. I've once again followed those instructions on my windows laptop and it's sadly still not being recognized. I get the same message: NES Mini not found, sorry.

Im not sure what the issue is.

Edit: Figured out the problem. The USB that comes with the console wasn't working well with the computer so I switched it and got the process to work. Thanks again for the OP and the help from Mega.

Oh I forgot about that! Every time I messed up the instructions I had to unplug and plug the console again because the usb was working weird. Cool that you could sort it out! :)

Was about to start hacking my sufami but as I check the google doc of playable games I see both SMW2 and Secret of Mana 2/Seiken Densetsu 3 is not compatible and there's no patch for those?

SMW2 as in Yoshi's Island? That comes with it, works fine.
And SD3 just needs a little patch, but that mostly works fine too (the snow area has slowdown)

Yoshis Island yes! But will the original snes classic be accessible after installing hackchi?

For Tenshi no Uta, I ended up using Retroarch with the normal SNES9x core, Nightcrawler used expanded SRAM for the vwf scratchpad which Canoe isn't compatible with.

I hacked my snes classic a year ago using a old version of hakchi and my previous pc. I have a nice setup with the games I wanted. Now i want to add some more games. Can I do that without having to start from scratch using the latest version hakchi? i really don't want to setup those game icons again

Ok, so Hakchi worked really well for me. Now I have some questions regarding the kernel:
I dumped the kernel in Hakchi 3 on my desktop. Do you need to have access to the original kernel if you want to restore the SNES Mini to original form? I don't think I will ever sell it so then it doesn't matter so much right?

I will go abroad for a year and won't bring my desktop PC but a Macbook with me.
What would you suggest? Can I backup the kernel/hakchi? Or should I install a VM on the Mac and start over again?

I was planning on just putting as much good stuff as possible that I won't need to transfer any more games for a year or until I install VM and Hakchi on my Mac, but maybe I can't use two different sets of Hakchi anyway?

Just upload the kernel and hakchi folder (sans games) to google cloud or whatever service you use. It doesnt take up much space...

So I've modded both the SNES and NES classics. The SNES has been working without issue, however the NES has trouble resetting. Occasionally when I do a soft reset to the menu, it will just crash the whole system. I'm running Hakchi2 CE 3.4.1. Does anyone have any suggestions for a fix? And it doesn't seem to matter what game it is, stock or custom, it has crashed on both.

I haven't messed with adding anything to my SNES classic for about a year. If I were to download a current version of hackchi, will my SNES work with it as-is or do I need to like reset/reconfigure it?

Is there any reason to update? If the system is working fine there's no reason to...
