I've been waiting for black friday for deals. Any Instant Pot Deals in the UK? Keep me in touch with them.

I was pissed when my wife bought our instant pot. I was assuming it'd be another kitchen gadget that wouldn't get used. But, oh man. We use the crap out of that thug and almost everything we've tried is tasty. Color me pleasantly surprised.

I tried southern style green beans in the pressure cooker this morning alongside the slow-simmered variety on the stove top. Couldn't tell the difference between the two when I tasted them, so next year I'll be cooking them in the pressure cooker only. I did not have a recipe to follow however and didn't really measure anything except the chicken stock. 35 minutes under pressure and a natural release, I'm guessing from beginning to end I cut the cook time in half with no compromise to flavor or texture.

My friend just got one of these to replace his broken slow cooker...

Are any recipes not wet? Everything I see about these is shredded this or that, soups/sauces/pastas or other things sitting in a sauce. Is it like like a sous-vide thing where it needs some grill/broil to get a good texture or it just more meant for one pot meals?

I like the idea of quicker cooking but I rarely have stuff that way, I pan-fry, roast, grill or fry mostly. Maybe I would eat more things that take longer to cook but I find for many meals the prep/cleaning takes more time than the cooking, and you can usually prep the next step or clean up while things are cooking but this needs things all ready during the prep no?

my rice cooker shot crap so I bought the 6-qt from kohls. anyone who cooks short grain white rice (Japanese) have history with the quality of this cooked rice? Recommend cooking with the instant pot or buy another rice cooker?
Rice cooker will be better. Pressure cooker will be faster. Plus you'll need less water. Took me like 2 attempts at rice to look up how much water I should use. The amount on the packaging will always be more than you need. I still tend to use my crap rice cooker cause it's always right.

Lots of people make baked goods, but you still need water because that's how you build pressure. There's a trivet for pot-in-pot recipes.

All these 8 qt. deals make me super excited about the potential for a new 8 qt. model, hopefully with the Ultra features. Please make it so!

Bahh....stupid things selling out in Canada before I can even get near them. Should I just get the 6 qt 9 in 1 for $90? The 6 in 1's are $48, but sold out everywhere. II just feel like I'll never use the sterlize feature....

I got the 6qt 7-1 at Canadian Tire for $69. I think RCS was selling it too. Might be sold out now but I got mine yesterday.

Nabbed the $82 8-qt. one from Amazon this morning, along with a crapload of other stuff for Christmas presents. Yay, Black Friday.

Damn this sounds pretty amazing. I'm single and want to cook more but I'm usually too lazy/busy/intimidated. This sounds like it could make things a lot easier, might ask for the 6 qt for Christmas. Looks like it's $65 on Walmart.com right now...

The instant pot helped me learn, too. You can start super simple (throw chicken drumsticks in, add salt, close lid, press button) and work your way up to more complicated recipes. These days, I mostly use mine for curry or various kinds of pasta sauce.

It's nice to start with because it removes any worries about things like undercooking or burning things. It's hard to outright ruin your food, so you'll usually get something that's at least edible.

The fact that you can just leave and come back later to cooked food is really nice, too. You don't have to sit around watching a pot boil.

I'm looking into buying an instant pot, but I've no idea where to begin. I've seen this one and the reviews are good. Does it seem good value for money?

I see the 6qt is $64.99 on Amazon . The 3 qt was $49 as a deal . I want the 6 qt but that's just the normal price on Amazon.

Ah screw it, going for the 8 qt since it's only $82.

I bought that 8 qt one. I didn't even really know what it was but I kept seeing those things recommended in gift guides. I'm going to give it to my girlfriend for xmas so it worked out.

I saw you can make ribs in like 40 mins (cooker and broiler). That's amazing. I have a slow cooker right now and it's like a 4 hour cook time.

I should really look into how to use the thing.

Yeah, on Canadian Amazon, the cheaper one keeps selling out in a flash. I ended up getting the fancier one with the cake button (cause I'm totally going to use that functionality) for like $20 more.

I've had the 6qt for almost a year now. A couple months in, I started wishing I'd gotten the 8qt. I still want an 8qt real bad.

Who do you cook for, a family or just yourself? I'm trying to decide between the 6qt and 8qt. I'm a guy living alone in an apartment so I'd be cooking for myself unless mrs. kbear is over for dinner. I do like to meal prep or at least would want to it consistently. Meal prep meaning cooking a bunch of meat or other food one time and having enough for dinner the next 4-5 days. Any suggestions for 6qt vs 8qt please, probably buying tonight, thanks.

The only thing I wish I could change about my pressure cooker is the size. It looks big but I'm not allowed to fill it up all the way because of security reasons. I think most pressure cookers are that way.

I recommend the bigger version. Especially if you have a freezer, the bigger the better IMO. Even if you're living by yourself.

Thanks, copping the 8qt!

Good time to see this thread, I've just moved to a new place and am thinking of getting one of these. The initial plan was to just get a rice cooker but as I saw what these can do I'm tempted as it'll help me save money time and effort and it'll probably be healthier because I'll home cook a hell of a lot more.

Would something like this be a good place to start? My budget is pretty low as I just moved and the original plan was for a £12 rice cooker.

This is exactly the one that we have at home and we love it. Really good quality and size! You'll pay it back in no time by cooking at home, especially if you start buying dry beans instead of cans. Such a time saver!

Bought the 6qt from amazon yesterday and saw the 8qt today. Bought and will return the 6.

Can't wait to do curry and chili in the thing.

Awesome haves you guys used it to cook rice and meat? As that is what I'll be using it for most probably.

And has anyone used this one? It's the second most popular one on Amazon and would a lot cheaper. And it's at least fulfilled my Amazon.

We use it for grains (basmati, jasmine, brown, quinoa, etc.) all the time. I love using it instead of the slowcooker when there is meat involved as I can brown the meat and onions in it and then add the rest of the ingredients before starting the pressure. Less cleaning! I've also just put some chicken or pork in it with a little bit of water/broth to shred it and then add to other recipes. Very versatile.

Just got the 8qt one for my wife for Xmas. That price was too good to pass up.

She loves to cook especially easy crock pot meals since we have two very busy little ones. Looking forward to us trying this out.

Best first meal to convince the wife it was a good purchase?

We open to any ideas...
