They stapled surveil to everything because they were (perhaps justifiably) scared of giving any dedicated/efficient graveyard stocking outside of that one Mythic Lich.

I honestly think it would have been okay. Shadows Over Innistrad's G/B deck had better stocking and better payoffs and I don't really remember it being that Limited-breaking.

That feel when the Ulvenwald feels more Golgari than Golgari.

Niv Mizzet's nasty but he's also nigh-impossible to splash, so someone has to commit to that Izzet life. It's like dropping everything on 21 at the roulette table.

I'm going all in on Niv for my first FNM deck. Don't care if I win, just want to see him blow some shit up.

I am fine with surveil (so far), anything that prevents mana flood/screw is welcome.

I just got steamrolled by a Quasiduplicate making two copies of Murmuring Mystic and a bunch of bad jump start cards. I think this is the Izzet deck you want to draft lol

Mystic is a 1/5 too so you can't even kill it with most conditional removal.

Either copy a bomb for more bombs, or copy a very solid threat like watcher in the mist if that's all you got and you still get insane value
Of course the dream is copying cards like nightveil predator, thief of sanity or mystic

The real dream is probably unicorn, then make 2 copies

Mystic is pretty great for how well it lines up against Boros mentors, yeah. You still get rolled if they've got angels, but at least the likelihood of that is lower.

Though now that you mention it, Niv-Mizzet is rare instead of mythic because Ral Zarek is mythic. Does that mean Izoni or Vraska is the new Golgari guild leader?

There's also the convoke 7W flying dude at unco, no angel but comparable size

The Mythic and Rare angels are the ones I'm talking about, which is why I said the likelihood you run up against them is a lot lower.

Venerated Loxodon is insane. Goddamn. Won every game I casted it.

He's pretty swell. That angel-making enchantment (Divine Visitation?) is also a real back-breaker in Limited.

Yeah agree with Quasiduplicate being great, I had a sealed on arena where I lived the dream and was copying Dream Eater.

It was an UB deck splashing green for 2 cards. didn't write down the full decklist bit it had:

Lazav, the Multifarious (mostly used on hired poisoner)

I don't understand who the Mythic Edition is even for, but apparently its A LOT OF PEOPLE.

I just don't get it, like even if they look marginally cooler, they do the same thing and don't represent any kind of actual accomplishment. They're the functional equivalent of the Sparkle Pony mounts in WoW. Nobody is ever impressed you just paid real money for a mount. People are impressed if you're riding Ashes of Al'ar.

People have seen how expensive even the bad Kaladesh Inventions have gotten (see: http://www.mtgprice.com/sets/Kaladesh_Inventions/Cataclysmic_Gearhulk), and this is something that is only being sold in the United states, on a website that was bound to fuck up and die. You can get this, wait 12 months, and double your money.

ashes of al'ar is a nouveau riche mount for people with time to farm, i'm only impressed by black qiraji battle tank

I suppose it's that I don't get THAT. It's not like you had to do something other than spend too much money on it. I mean, at least when you buy a sports car you could argue it's functionally better than a regular car.

So I've got the option of either doing draft or another pre-release sealed (with guild packs) on Friday. Which one of those should I do? I had a blast with sealed last week and the rewards are better, but I like drafting more and there's nothing quite like the opening weekend when no one has a clue what's going on. It's a tough choice. I do kind of want to try Dimir in limited since I've not been able to yet and draft won't give me anywhere near a guarantee as sealed will (as far as any guarantee can be made).

Normally I'd agree. I hate sealed. I've just been really enjoying the guilds and have found them to be somewhat consistent at getting you decent quality stuff with synergy for the guilds you want to play. Maybe I just got lucky, but I've enjoyed it.

Still, I'll probably draft.

Sealed GRN on Arena is noticeably worse than in paper due to not having the seeded boosters. It's such a crapshoot with six regular boosters.

During Round 7, Ward's opponent activated Æther Vial. Ward allowed the ability to resolve, which his opponent used to put a Meddling Mage into play. Ward attempted to then cast Path to Exile on another creature "in response" to Meddling Mage naming a card when there was no window to respond.

During the investigation, Ward argued he thought Meddling Mage's ability was a triggered ability upon entering play. However, after investigation, judges determined Ward knew that Meddling Magewas not a triggered ability and that his statements to his opponent and the judges were attempts to undo his mistake of not casting Path to Exile in response to the Æther Vial activation.

Apparently he's a savage cheater and there is a lot of other examples on Reddit of stuff he has done

The reason people are pissed is because the guy who tried to lie to get an extra Flooded Strand Promo got banned for 18 months- people agree with that, but when Wizards is claiming they want to clean up the game


Banning a person who tried to cheat at the PRO TOUR for 1/3rd of the time as a guy who broke no game rules sits wrong with people

Why Izzet?

The complaints about this Mythic Edition are so incredibly silly to me. The fact you couldn't get this redundant product isn't a reason to demand people get fired.

Am I the only one who thinks Arena is terrible for streaming? Like the name text size is so small you can only get a faint idea what a card is by looking at the cropped artwork. Since it's a new set and you're not familiar with all the cards yet or their rules text, good luck with that.

i know how magic works and i get confused as hell watching arena sometimes

for new people it probably makes zero sense

Most streamers I've seen are using the plugin where you can hover over cards and you can see them bigger.

PSA: they are going to remove the abiltiy to craft the masters edition PWs in arena today

Because good aggressive Izzet decks are just incredibly explosive and have a ton of reach. And Hypothesizzle is a hell of a magic card.

As a viewer, I'd rather have all the information on screen without relying on the streamer and second guessing what the cards actually are. The pronounced P/T is nice I guess but everything else is just poor.

Man, am I weird for thinking Core Sets aren't an essential thing? Both when I first got into Magic as a kid, and when I came back (and when I REALLY came back), I never thought "man, I wish these cards were less complex and generally worse!" It was the more interesting cards and interactions that drew me in. Though admittedly I'm mostly just whining because Arena draft is stuck on it and I have no interest in it, I guess.

Edit: Aka I'm cool with them being around for a way to keep staples around or have generic, more fluid flavor... but I don't really buy into the need to make them, you know... suck.

they tried getting rid of them but found that they weren't able to reprint cards needed in standard in regular sets and w/ the switch to all large sets keeping at 4 regular sets per year would have considerable increased the workload. The summer sets also didn't sell much better than the coresets did so there wasn't much of a financial gain either IIRC.

you should have gotten an email about the open beta. In there is the code you can redeem in the store to get 1 copy of Teferi, Ral and Vraska.

Afterwards they show up in the collection and you can craft more.

Wow thanks for the reminder on this! The code went to my spam folder of course.

I'm starting to enjoy the Arena software and the time saving aspects but it's criminal the GRN sealed isn't bo3 for 2000 gems. When you get the inevitable MTG autoloses for not drawing your 3rd land or opponent nut draws, it just feels so bad.

Are they removing the ability to craft more after you get them via code? Or are they not accepting anymore codes?
