So Cornballer do we have any interesting tidbits about Lovecraft country? I hear a tiny bit a ways back and it being on HBO I'm super interested
I haven't heard anything other than Pepler's mention earlier this week "Lovecraft Country, Misha Green's extraordinary script, which is a kind of horror genre film set in the 1950s". I don't think they're doing much beyond working in the writers room right now, and we probably won't know more until they start casting.

I am really liking Godless so far.

Also I am hoping that Brooklyn 99 doesn't go anywhere, as I love that cast so much. It would make me sad. Great news on Season 3 of Good Place though!

Godless seems to be getting rave reviews.
So here is my calm and measured response after watching one episode:

THIS IS THE SINGLE BEST SHOW NETFLIX HAS EVER MADE AND I SWEAR I WILL HUNT DOWN ANY OF YOU FUCKERS WHO DON'T WATCH IT.
.

(Though I'm getting increasingly annoyed at how Netflix played up the "only women" angle in their marketing. Like it still has a very significant female presence and plays with some archetypes but it isn't what they sold me. However I stand by the statement above)

could have sworn I read something more but it may have just been rumor on the old board. Thanks for the info though

B99 has really come into its own since an uneven first season but god the cast has always been the best to me. I swear Andy Samberg can make me cry with laughter at the dumbest shit. "That's not a door it's a dorn't!"
Yup. It's more Deadwood than Handmaid's Tale in the west.
Previously I was interested. Now I'm turned on and sweating

Did everybody saying that Godless is the best Netflix show forget about Iron Fist?

I don't think any show will ever top it.

It's not Deadwood 2.0. I was just explaining the difference between what it was sold as and what it is.
It's pretty stupid to judge the show based on the first episode considering what happens in the first episode that changes things for later on.
Nah, it is totally fair criticism considering the marketing for the show. Refinery 29 has a pretty solid take on the show:
Don't get me wrong — Godless is a spectacular show, and well worth watching. It's gorgeously shot, intricately woven, and despite feeling a bit long at times, hits it out of the park with the finale. It definitely gives us some impressive female performances, and touches on themes like race and sexual orientation, often ignored in such a white-male-centric genre.

And to be fair, creator, director and writer Scott Frank has actually said that he didn't intend to make a feminist show. "I wasn't interested in making a giant feminist statement," he told Variety earlier this month. "I don't know that I have the right to. What I really wanted to do was focus on characters who never get their stories told, women chief among them. My favorite theme is identity and people being stuck in lives they never planned on living. Most of the characters in this story fit that."

But still, it feels like a missed opportunity to have built up the conceit of a "no man's land" ruled by women, and fail to deliver on the feminism. Why create the fierce women of La Belle only to have them serve someone else's narrative?
I think Netflix dropped the ball a bit w/r/t marketing.

Technically Canada already did a women focused Western a few years ago called Strange Empire.

there is zero chance that Stranger Things 3 doesnt happen right?

hell there's probably zero chance that Stranger Things 4 and 5 dont happen given the ridiculous push Netflix gives the show.

The first three episodes of Runaways were pretty good. Now I just need to find time to watch Godless.

Watched the first episodes of Both Godless and Mindhunter based on the chatter in this thread.

Initial impressions for anyone looking to do the same:

GODLESS
Episode starts slow, there are characters and events that don't get interesting until the last 15 minutes or so of the episode, once they solidify all the connections and you can start putting the timeline together. It plays with flashbacks to tell the story, and by the end of the pilot episode, it feels very promising. It also makes me want to play Red Dead Redemption again.

Side note: Is the church at the start of the first ep the same as the one from Westworld? looks very familiar.

MINDHUNTER
This was great right from the start. Engaging opening sequence and introduction to the style of the show. Groff is so strange but personable, I love the supporting cast, the story is thus far intriguing, and can't wait to dive in deeper to this.

Both shows have good pilots. Will def. watch the rest of them both.

Kept seeing search party pop up in threads here and started watching it like two nights ago. Finished last night lol. What a hilarious and dark show. Ron Livingston doesn't age at all. Shawkat is revelatory and the guy who plays cancer boy is quickly becoming one of my favorite comedic actors between this and his episode of the characters on Netflix. So glad it made it to a season two

Remember when they had kids??? lol
Yeah, they really changed the main premise of the show from the focus on Anna Faris' character having kids while being a recovering alcoholic, to Anna Faris' character lives with her mom and has three other friends who are recovering alcoholics. I don't think the show's name, "Mom," really describes it anymore.

Roscoe was terrible so I'm glad they ditched him and Violet wasn't being used too much anyways. I'm definitely happier with the show now that it's focused on the AA group they have.

Edit: I will say that I did miss the character that was Anna's dad. But the replacement for romance is fine too.

Lol actually this might be true. But there is the whole mother/daughter dynamic so Mom could still be argued to be a fine title. It's working better than the title "Cougar Town" did for itself.

It's definitely gotten better without them. Roscoe wasn't good, and wasn't used well. And Violet wasn't unique or all that interesting either.

The title still fits because of her mom, but even then. It's definitely changed.

yes, there's plenty of shirtless hunks.
No, I have real questions about the Ghost Riders in Teen Wolf:

I know that if people see the Ghost Riders when they come on Earth, the Ghost Riders will make them disappear from existence and those people might become Ghost Riders themselves after that.

But why do the Ghost Riders come on Earth in first place? Why do they let some people see them? Why do they do all that?

So I just watched all of Westworld season one for the first time and since there isn't an official thread on here I really just wanted to say that Westworld is one hell of a show. Haven't watched a show this well produced and written in a long long time. Reminds me of stuff like Fringe, Lost, etc. Anyways good stuff and if some of you guys are even remotely curious, check this out. Well worth the ten or so hours you will invest in it. Definitely shares similarities to Christopher Nolan's work as well (since it's done by his brother). So excited to discover this gem and so excited that it's getting a season two.

Man, it feels so sad that Longmire just ended without much fanfare. I feel like it's the more "realistic" Justified. It's too bad the ending was kind of disappointing in terms of wrapping up any of the side stories, but I guess it was fine in terms of dealing with all the big arcs.

Have you watched Person of Interest? A lot of the same people behind the camera worked on both shows.

Funny you should mentioned that. I was on medical leave a few months back due to a surgery I had and I started watching Person of Interest. Finished the first two seasons and bought the Blu-Ray box set as it was on sale. Good stuff, still need to go back and watch more but it's a good show. :)

That's disappointing to hear. I didn't really like the last season too much because of how Walt was acting, but I was still looking forward to watching the last season.

What shows are must see on Hulu?

Thinking of signing up the free trial for Runaways and want to make the most of my binge watch.

Edit:Since I'm completely wrong about my recommendation....hey if anyone is signing up for Amazon Prime:

PATRIOT. Don't miss it. Give it some episodes to sink in and spread out its intricately, tightly written plan. It's a amazing dark comedy drama that no one's watched. LIke a combo of Better Call Saul and Fargo. By the end of the season I was in awe of how well crafted the show is.
