A few thoughts, hearing discussions around sounds that have both newer and younger rappers is strange in a sense. Interesting to hear why people like each respective verse, or the reverse why people think the other one ruined the song. Features are always kind of like that though, some people only want the one thing sometimes.
While I can't say i'm particularly the biggest fan of a lot of newer rappers, despite me being in the demo for that. I do love how production on a lot of shit has just gotten better over the years. Beats were in a slum for a bit, and while I might not enjoy a triplet flow for the umteeth time, folks have gotten creative on the instrumentation of the music , at least.
Black eyed Peas? So like I really like the BEP's 2nd album, because its like... super dated. Like there are albums you hear that stand the test of time because you can get with what's being presented and how it sounds. Albums that I wasn't even alive or... sentient for I can love. But this album is like the most early 2000's album ass album I've ever heard in my fucking life. Like you hear that shit for like a second and you go " yep this came out then fucking yep" . Like if you told me you hated that album for that reason I wouldn't argue with you, but that's why I like it. Particularly in its production its this weird timestamp of the late 90's and early 00's experimentation with more lowfi electronic routes for a lot of beats almost DnB-ish, which make sense given the time frame. Then there's like another version of the first track, hidden on the end of another track with better instrumentals ( if not more generic... though considering that type of instrumental would get popularized later in the early to mid 00's, sort of neo-soul boom bap, its starts or rather is on the cusp of being generic because the album came out in 2000) yeah its weird.
So I guess where i'm going with this is, any of you got an album where the part someone could argue is bad is exactly why you like it?
