Alabama has a bunch of Xs for some reason, mostly 64GB.

The gap between 64 and 256 is ridiculous. I could probably survive at 64 if I absolutely had to though. Only at 30.5GB of 128 on my 7+. Difference of $7 more a month vs $14 more a month. Or I could get a Watch.

Damn you mid-level management career path!

Don't sweat it, it's a watch and will show signs of wear no matter what. I put one on my first Apple Watch as well and in hindsight I can't even fathom how silly I was (and regret that I spent like 15 bucks on a pack of - admittedly pretty well thought out - screen protectors). Enjoy the curved beauty naked :D
Just make sure to swap bands over a soft surface, that's the cause for what feels like 98% of "i cracked my watch screen" stories. Screen protectors wouldn't prevent that anyway.

v Apple Care+ advice is good though, forgot to mention it.

No screen protector needed. I'd spring for Apple Care though as it's only $49 and allows you to replace the screen two times for $69 instead of the full cost of $200+

Yeah, you'd have to select all the ones you want individually then bulk download those.

However, with the iCloud for Windows app there is a setting to "Download new photos to my PC." That might work.

That's the app I use on my PC.
Recently downloaded all my photos from iCloud Photos by year very quickly.
All new photos are auto downloaded.

I finally moved over to the iphone X after 8 years in the Android ecosystem. I was wondering if anyone here had a list of recommended apps they can point me to as I build an iOS app library from scratch. I will happily pay a premium for well-designed and great apps, but would rather shell out one-time rather than pay a recurring subscription. Here are some app categories I had in mind:
  • Sleep app - I've been using Sleep as Android, and I've heard Sleep Cycle is the best iOS equivalent. Are there any good alternatives that doesn't require a yearly subscription? Does it have smart watch pairing for heart rate monitoring?
  • Gym/food/lifestyle tracker app - I am pretty much done with myfitnesspal, so any alternatives would be great.
  • Podcast app - I've found the default podcast app on iOS 11 pretty bad. What's the best app out there right now?
  • Music\Media app - I use spotify, but want something that can play media that is locally stored on my phone.
  • Email app - Is Spark worth switching to over the default mail app?
  • Keyboard app - the default app works fine for me, but if there's something better out there, I'd like to hear it! There are some cool apps out there like grammarly, but it's really expensive.
  • Camera app - I have no clue about this. Suggestions welcome.
  • Reddit app - I think Apollo is still the best?
Aside from these categories, are there any cool apps that you love?

Hey guys, I noticed my iPhone X suffers from image retention when the same high contrast image is displayed for a short time (30-60 seconds). For example when opening reddit I can see outlines of my homescreen icons on the grey loading screen. (I have a very dark wallpaper)

If anyone wants to help me determine if my screen is defective or if this is normal behavior please open this https://marco.org/rmbp-irtest.html for about a minute and then switch to the grey image and test if you can still see the pattern.

I wish there was an option to turn off this home bar thing most of the time. It really is intrusive too often.

I did see the pattern a bit. But then I watched as it disappeared. Image retention is normal though.

Temporary retention will happen with OLED. Unless something doesn't go away after a couple of minutes, don't sweat it.

Thats good to know, this is my first OLED phone and i only remember image retention as a hardware defect that could happen with lcd panels. But that was after several minutes to hours of static images and not a few seconds like it seems to be with oled.

I have the X. It doesn't do much for me. I still could have a 5 and be fine if it was still 100 percent supported.

Have it for a week now, honestly the best phone I've ever used yet. Everything feels so natural and smooth, it's like I've used it for years. Also best looking phone ever made. The notch is awesome, it's part of the screen yet I never notice it, it's instantly recognizable and people will sometimes comment on the phone.

64GB, cuz I'll leave the 256GB for when I upgrade my iPad, my air 2 looks so bland now I dont wanna use it anymore.

I can't really help you with any of the rest of the apps but when it comes to camera apps you definitely should try Anamorphic. If you like taking pics with DoF then it's the perfect app for you as it lets you edit the bokeh effect for portraits.

Hey, what is a good headphone dongle? Not trying to spend a shit ton of money. I have good earbuds and hate having to use these fucking apple earbuds. Sorry if this has been asked 10000 times.

It's for work so that is what I get, and I don't get what makes it great. Glass on the back for what, so people can see you have the X? Apps work .2 seconds faster? I am trying to understand what I have I guess that makes it good.
I think you're trying to be cool tbh. That's fine you have this thought, but to come into a multi page iPhone X thread to do so is so try-hard.

Thanks I didn't know that is needed for wireless charging. Do all phones require this for wireless charging?

I'm not trying to be cool. I just have the phone and am wondering what people enjoy about it. Because I am not seeing what makes it worth the money.

That's subjective but for me personally nothing can justify THAT money for a phone unless you're really wealthy or you buy a phone every 5 years or something. Having said that I guess the staple of the iPhone X is the gorgeous edge-to-edge Oled display and Face ID. Everything else can be found on the iPhone 8 and to a lesser degree on older iPhones too.

Is anyone else having difficulty "pinching" to expand / shrink videos within the YouTube app? I've only been able to do it like once. Did they change the behavior on the iPhone X? I have to press the button in the bottom right of the video player now cause the pinch gestures no longer seem to do anything.

No issues here. Works like a charm.

What's the best way to get mkv onto iPhones and play them? It's been years since I've done it so I imagine there's an elegant way to do so.

VLC can do a network transfer, but I haven't used it in so long I'm not sure how reliable it is. If you have Plex setup and happen to be a Plex Pass subscriber you could just throw them into one of your folders that Plex Media Server is watching and then download whatever you want straight into the Plex app.

Got my iphone X for a few days now and I'm loving it. My only grip used to be the notch and the moment I turned it on, it completely disappears to me. I'm fine with letterboxed videos and games because the oled is so good, the letterbox melts into the bezel. Love it. Optimized apps like Animal Crossing looks incredible.

Anyone got any wireless charger recommendations or sales? I'm looking at this.

Edit: Well crap. After I posted this, it's now backordered. Shouldn't have procrastinated.

As a developer I really wish there was too. Right now we are looking at having to change their entire UI for our game just because of this one phone - or kiss goodbye to ever getting featured on the App Store again (Apple are pretty much guaranteed to not be featuring anything that relies on the compatibility modes). Yes, maybe we could have designed the UI around this - if we'd known about it three years ago. But the ears? The home button hanging in the screen above your game? It is awful.

I utterly despise the iPhone X and it is going to cause me nothing but hassle for some time now. My only hope is that like other missteps that Apple has made in the past this piss-poor design will soon be forgotten by the time the next revision comes around.

And yes, I have used one and yes, I have been an iPhone user since the 3G (I own a 3G, 4, 5S and 6S, as well as two iPads and several Macs).

Thanks, blah, I kinda figured since I don't see anyone else complaining about it.

When it's in the regular mode (where you can see the description, comments, related videos etc) I cannot pinch to make it go full screen (landscape) like before. And when it's full screen I cannot 'pinch to close' and go back to regular (portrait) mode, it just does nothing at all. It's only like this on the iPhone X for me, the iPad works fine as did my iPhone 7 before I traded it back. Kind of annoying since I always used gestures to navigate YouTube and now they just don't work for me.

Maybe I'll try re-installing the YouTube app and see if that fixes it.

It hasn't worked right forme since it was updated. I tried with videos I had uploaded myself and not one of them pinches to zoom but I still get the haptic feedback.
Other videos usually work fine but sometimes random videos don't as well.

Think I'm gonna wait for a X+ or something. Like the new design but it's way too small for me. Coming from 6+ I was hoping for something a bit bigger.

Beautiful phone tho

Anyone in Canada considering the Freedom Mobile plan?

I'm with Freedom at the moment and happy with the 4G data, the plan they're offering is $60/month for 10GB and $50/month for the 256 iPhone X over two years, saving $329 on the cost of the phone.

I'd recommend overcast for podcast, strong for gym (but it doesn't track food, only gym activities) and gboard for keyboard

I have this occasional side gig where I live report happenings and overall statistics in sports games via a web interface on my phone. I've done that plenty with my 6s+ but the idea of making it with an X and its OLED is making me anxious. This web interface has a few different pages but the main page is mostly static and some rarer to hit buttons just stay like that the whole time.

I already had the idea of setting accessibility options so I can switch picture modes (to classic or smart invert) on the fly with a triple click on the side button, which I'd do IDK maybe every 10 minutes or so.

Any thoughts on this?
