Let's take a look at Marvelous' current Switch line-up:

Fate/Extella
Senran Kagura Reflexions
Little Dragon's Cafe (published in JP only, mainly an Aksys game)
Dragon Marked for Death (has an unknown involvement, likely through their Hakama division headed by Yoshifumi Hashimoto)
Peach Ball: Senran Kagura
Fate/Extella LINK
Daemon X Machina
Sengoku Night Blood (an otome game that's mainly by Idea Factory)

5 own games with three being related in some form.

Still needs work.
That's pretty close to be all of their games since the Switch launched.

Hopefully it will beat Mario Party 6 and 5 in first week sales. Probably do 125k falling behind Mario Party 2

I don't know if the blog is referring to Mario Party or something else, but I can see a 15 hint.

150k if true.

Somewhere. I think.
I don't know if the blog is referring to Mario Party or something else, but I can see a 15 hint.

150k if true.

Retailers saw the catastrophic third-party sales on Switch last week, and after losing all confidence in the console, have decided to stop selling it completely. Only 15 Switch consoles sold last week. RIP.

...

*ahem*

I guess a new release could've sold 15k, but leaker usually do not bother with "low-selling" games like that so it could be SMP indeed. Would be a pretty decent performance.

It was a very difficult task even considering YW4 for this year, but with the delay it's pretty much guaranteed that 2018 Software total sales will be down compared to last year.

At least next year should be exciting with all the big games on Switch and PS4 + the revision coming.

2019 should be confortably up YoY for software and hardware.

A bit sad how 2018 had so many delays that we're already hyping up 2019 before the holidays even hit. Pretty boring year for the market overall.

It is also because the heavy hitters being in November/December, they'll generate strong momentum that will be very noticeable in 2019.

Pokemon/Smash/DQB2 will sell well into 2019.

You don't think Pokemon and Smash might give it competition?

The situation is this, until week 39.

Code:
+-------+------------+------------+------------+------------+------------+
|System | This Week | Last Week | Last Year | YTD | Last YTD |
+-------+------------+------------+------------+------------+------------+
| ALL | 588.000 | 308.000 | 533.000 | 18.227.000 | 21.492.000 |
+-------+------------+------------+------------+------------+------------+
2018_10_10_18_37_54.jpg

3 million less than last year.
Pokemon and Smash will improve the numbers and make the difference smaller, but I don't expect to outsell it. Remember than last year there were Mario Odyssey and Ultra Sun Moon as well.

Level-5 has lost so much money with the delay of Inazuma Eleven Ares from H1 2018 to Fall to Winter, and maybe even further. Running an anime without game and such.
And Youkai Watch 4 is missing the holiday season as well (good for Pokémon and Dragon Quest Builders 2).

They've had so many internal troubles in the last 3 years. Lots of delays of Fantasy Life Online, The Snack World, Inazuma Eleven Ares, Youkai Watch 4, and who knows what happened to Megaton Musashi. While other projects like Ni no Kuni II had smaller delays as well (missing the holiday season). And inbetween all those console games, they made a bunch of smartphone games that didn't do that hot as far as I can tell.

I doubt Level-5 is in financial troubles. But they definitely miss out on a lot of money with those excessive delays. Personally, from the outside, I'd say resources are their biggest problems. Shifting to full HD development instead making 3DS games. They're currently working on Inazuma Eleven, Youkai Watch 4, Megaton Musashi, and the 20th Anniversary Project that is supposed to be announced later this fall, and who knows what else. Yet on their company website, they state they only have 300 employees. I have no idea how old that information is, but I think it's best to scale up the company.

I think it's time for Hino to give more freedom/responsibility to other prominent people within the company, and let them manage their own projects. It's hard to be director of 4 projects at the same time. This approach would also make it easier to rapidly scale up projects, and hire people with a lot of mobile experience. Usually when a new Level-5 game comes out, it still sells well, so the creative direction doesn't seem to be a big problem yet, but development time and the availability of people to work on ongoing projects definitely is their weak spot.

What exactly is supposed to improve in PS4s software sales situation? From the known bigger titles like KH3 and others even combined, they will have enough of an uphill battle to just match MHWs software sales in a year on year comparison.

Well, at least 2019 is looking insane so far. Could the biggest year for Switch.

Hmmm, delayed to 2019. So, what are the games L5 made this year?

Ni no Kuni 2 (PS4)
Layton port, Snack World port (both for Switch)
Yokai Buster localisation (3DS)
Yokai World (iOS/Android)
Any other game? Is this considered a good year for them?

Do you think the hype for Pokémon 2019 could affect YW4 either way?

If it turns out to be the big console Pokémon people dream of, will it lower the interest in YW4?

Conversely, would an underwhelming showing have a portion of the hardcore audience turn to YW4 instead?

Software sales will be down YoY for the PS4 and it would be normal since it is the end of its life.

However they still have big games planned for Q1 like Kingdom Hearts 3, Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry 5 + Nioh 2. SW/HW sales should be good at least during Q1, maybe even Q2. There is also the Granblue project which is still a question mark.

Really don't think PS5 is next year but it is still a possibility.

2019 should be peak year for the Switch given the release schedule and the revision.

I wouldn't expect them to have an effect on each other.

I wouldn't expect them to have an effect on each other.
Pokemon and Yo-Kai are not going to affect each other unless they are very close together.
No tangible effect, probably, but there's a small minority of hardcore players who may gravitate towards YW4 for being closer to their desired evolution of Pokémon.

But it's possible that I'm overestimating even that contingent.

Pokémon 2019 is getting released mid November and first showed around March-May. It really shouldn't affet YW4 in any way.
