I posted in the wrong thread. I know it's totally subjective, but trying to decide which platform I want to buy this. Thinking Steam, but it's likely to get heavily discounted there could prob grab it cheap down the road.

Might grab on Switch?

If I get it, it will be on Switch. It doesn't seem like it requires too much power to run and the portability is nice.

An small interview with Swery by the always excellent Archipel (formerly tocotoco)

Thanks! For some reason I missed this video.

Really informative, but I do wish I didn't see some of the footage here. I'd recommend waiting until after you play the game to watch this, if you're already sold on it.

EDIT: It's really cool to see him mentioning Magical Quest as an influence. They're some of my favorite SNES games, and I barely see anyone talking about the series.

Still not up on the European Playstation Store. Guess I just keep waiting, but there is no rush since I bought Mark of the Ninja earlier this week.

I didn't realize this is gonna be on the expensive side. Was assuming it'd be something around 15€ at most, not 30€. Complaining about price is lame, but Swery's games usually convince with everything but gameplay and I'm skeptical this approach can work for a platformer. So, I'm going to wait for impressions, I suppose.

I haven't followed the game super closely but I do remember Swery explicitly saying he knows he has a reputation for making cool games that aren't necessarily fun to play and that his focus with this game was to make a traditional gamey-ass game that was fun to play first and foremost. I have no idea if he'll pull it off but he at least recognizes his weaknesses.

Count me in with all the others waiting to hear about Switch performance. I'm going to buy this game regardless, just need to know which platform to go with.

I'm having an annoying issue with the game. In the ingame menu it won't stop moving sideways, I even tried unplugging my controller and restarting the game with just my keyboard. =/

I guess one of us should bite the bullet and see what it's like on Switch, hah. If no one else does it in the next few hours, I will.

Pleasantly surprised by the reviews; I was totally down for a nice janky but personally enjoyable experience, so it being well received beyond people with my tastes is good to hear.

If anyone gets stuck or needs puzzle help, let me know!

Yeah, I'm kinda stuck but I'm not sure if it's a bug or not. In the "train level":
I opened the vine door with fire, but the following door is closed and there nothing else to do around. Not sure what to do in there...

Update: ok I got it :P

you have to fire up the train engine...

Its really bizzare that the game is releasing as it is. Anyways, played for a bit and I'm enjoying it, though nothing has grabbed me quite like Deadly Premonition and D4 did so far. I'll reserve judment until the end.

As a tweet I saw earlier today said, I'm glad this game was released on day of the girl and national coming out day.

Finished it.
It's overall a lot less crazy than his other games but still very much Swery.
I thought the puzzle design was pretty good, although the platforming was a bit too stiff and occasionally rather frustrating.

In regards to the story:

I thought initially that the story was fairly predictable, JJ and Emily are Lesbians, JJ got bullied, JJ didn't accept it, JJ killed herself. Not the first game to have this kinda story

The message and triggerwarnings at the beginning didn't help making it subtle.

BUT!

Then the end twist came and knocked it out of the park.
First i was very confused when you woke up and suddenly where a brown haired guy.
Took me like 20 seconds until i went OOOOOH, OOOOOH, it's not actually a story about lesbians but about transwomen!
Even thought the signs were there in retroperspective.
Really well done!

All in all, the game is fairly janky, but it's nonetheless a very good game with some very good vibes, i think some swery friends might be disappointed that the game isn't as all out crazy as D4 or some moments in DP were, but i also think that some people are going to really appreciate this videogame.

Took me 5 hours to beat, PC port was great.

Only issue I've encountered so far is J.J getting smacked through the ceiling into the sky by the wrecking ball. It would be hilarious if it didn't mean I have to do some things over again. :|

Damn, rough news about the PS4 version. Wonder what could have caused such a last-minute delay. Hopefully it doesn't affect sales too negatively.

I'll probably pick it up on Switch tonight.

I'm not one to moan but I here I go moaning again.
PS4 version is £19.99 and Xbox One/Steam version is £23.99, Xbox One doesn't sync online which affects achievements, which don't seem to exist (at the moment)

Other than that it's Swery and I'm in for anything he and his studio does, just done the intro and will continue on tomorrow.

I played an hour or two this morning on Switch, really enjoying it. Feels... tighter than most of the games it draws comparison to? Or maybe just more suited to my taste lol. And also, of course, janky. The Swery charm is really selling it for me, and I like the mechanics so far.

Docked performance seemed pretty stable as far as I could tell, but there were a couple times where it randomly started hitching. It's never been during a moment where I'm actively trying to do something though, mostly when I'm just running straight forward into a new part of the area, but it's there. Played like 5 mins of portable and it seems similarly stable.

also B and A are switched and it messed me up a little lol

Kinda turned off by the death mechanic, but way more turned off by the price. Love Swery, but not like this.

Pleasantly surprised by the reviews. I kind of expected a lot more 5-6/10 scores, though the game is intriguing enough that I'd get it on sale regardless.

Also, reading between the lines of the reviews, apparently the story revolves around some sort of
lesbian romance between the two lead characters? Huh, hope it's executed well if so; Japanese games often don't do a great job with LGBT characters.

Played the first two hours. I really appreciate the gallery, the concept art is so cool. I really love the character design in this game.

Missed one donut so far, hopefully I can go back and get it without having to start over after I finish the game. It's fine if I can't, though.

I'm not sure I understand what's going on yet, but I'm very interested in JJ and knowing more about her, only stopped playing because the controller battery ran out, so that's a good sign. The gameplay won't blow your mind or anything, but considering how people go into a Swery game expecting almost unplayable levels of jank they'll have to endure for the story, so far this game is actually quite fun.

Glad you caught the solution! I am always here if you have other issues but you seem well suited.
