Samsung, essential have oreo updates out that work effortlessly because of treble and a/b setup. (which one plus didn't do for some reason?)
I don't think Samsung uses a/b boot partitions, but I could be wrong. Samsung and Essential have betas out. OnePlus already released an official Oreo update for the 3 and 3T and a leaked beta has come out for the 5. Doesn't seem like they are behind.

Go the peasant route and get a Xiaomi A1 from Amazon. Guaranteed updates from Google, you'll save some cash and it's pretty much a good all rounder

That's not good advice. The Mi6 and OP5T are both flagship devices and the A1 is a mid tier at best. Get the OP5T, even the 6GB ram version will be decent.

you folks need to be wary of android one. No actual guarantee for timely updates. Like A1 updates will be handled by xiaomi, not google. Don't see a timeline for oreo, heck I'm reading its not even on november security patch?

lol the comments. But yeah, the key gamechanger of dash charge is it can charge butt fast with screen on as well.

I was playing some game and didn't get a single % on my pixel 2 xl while charging 'rapidly' for 30min lol.

How many batteries are there in the Pixel 2 XL? Mine just refuses to drain.
3500mah with a snapdragon 835 will do that for you. Snapdragon 835 is Qualcomm's best processor ever for battery life. They really did well with this one. Will be interesting to see the Snapdragon 845 in a couple of months and see how it improves on the 835.

if you have the nav bar set to auto hide and hard press the invisible home button and swipe right/left it goes back or opens the app switcher?!

Just pulled the trigger on the Chromebook Pro this Black Friday. It was hard to decide between that and the Asus C302, but the 3:2 QHD screen won me over.

Hopefully it will work with what I need it for because none of the pure tablets have been working for me.

A flagship isn't a flagship just because it has a certain price point or a Snapdragon 835. The A1 is flagship enough to warrant updates from Google. It will have more updates than MI6 and maybe OP5T (if they repeat the OP2 fiasco). Hell it'll have more updates than the Essential trash lol or other $700 phones.

You might place a value on SoC, I might place a premium on official software updates.
It has very good value if you don't care about benchmarks.

Jeff ChickenDig Yes it has November updates, Oreo should be coming until the end of the year.

So a flagship can be any phone someone holds in high regard?

I assumed a flagship meant the best phone the manufacturer puts out and for xiaomi that would be the mi series or the mi max/note.

Xerxes would be ashamed of you using that idiom like you did.

Essential pushed the krack update before google's nov 6 release. (google still hasn't done the krack fix btw)

I downloaded the Pixel 2 live wallpapers and put them on my OP5T.

They look better on the OP5T's screen than they do on the Pixel 2 XL's screen.

Do we have a thread on must have apps?

Picked up a Note 8 yesterday liked plan, loving it but so many things got to get don't know where to start. I'm sure this being different than an iphone it must have some stuff that is a must.

I don't know if this is the right thread for this, but my xperia m4 keeps restarting all the time for no reason and is fucking annoying.

Any issues buying that unlocked S8 from Amazon? This would be an upgrade for my BF, it would be way cheaper than a pixel 2xl. Is it easy enough to turn off Bigsby and get the regular Google Assistant back?

There's a lot of fud around Bixby. The Google assistant is on the phone and accessible as with any other Android phone. It was never taken away. Bixby is meant to be an on device assistant, and it's most useful features center around asking it to do things for you in the device itself, like power management etc. while the assistant is best at external tasks like weather, traffic etc.

Since there is no siri equivalent on Android, you kind of have to use two solutions, or you can disable Bixby, but I think if you dig into it, there is some useful stuff. For example, you can set up a night routine that disables battery sipping functions like notifications and radios that you won't need while sleeping, then run a morning routine to do all of that plus give you the morning news etc. with a customizable Bixby command like "good morning". Not for everyone, but it can be useful.

Well I'm mainly worried about it just confusing my BF who is far from a phone or tech nerd like those of us in here. It's one reason the pixels are speaking since they're vanilla.

Not sure if there's a specific thread.

My only real "must have" is Pocketcast for podcasts.
If you want to count games I'd say all the Kingdom Rush games are must haves (unless you hate tower defense games).

Nothing really Android exclusive that I can think of. I just have the usual music/video streaming apps, Google apps, etc.

Awesome, got some 'like new' ones from Amazon Warehouse for £150 which seems mad. Seen some issues about 'creaking' in some units so hopefully I avoid that.

My Jabra Moves are alright, but just needed that big upgrade. I'll deal with apt-X for a couple of months until the S8 gets Oreo.

Did you get them yet, how are they treating you?

The Oreo Open Beta is out for the regular OnePlus 5. Also it looks like they took out the "new" face unlock feature that was seen in the leaked beta earlier.

Yeah, they're great. Not had a noise cancelling pair before so just even having that without music on is weird but great ha.

I tried them on my Pixel C and S8 and can't tell the difference with LDAC on the Pixel C only using Google Play Music, which I use most, but I get that's to be expected when it's not high-res audio. Also, the noise cancelling isn't great when there's a lot of wind and I'm walking it seems, it sounds like it's over-compensating, but that's fine I can just turn it off.

Massive upgrade of the Jabra Moves that's for sure and I still recommend those as the best pair under 100 quid. But these are just so comfortable on top of the excellent sound quality that I could actually sleep in them.

Yeah, you need some high quality FLAC material to make much of a difference. Though I can hear a difference on Spotify's Extreme quality, which I think is 320kbps. Thing is, these things have an upscaler in the built-in DAC that makes even Apt-X along with regular MP3's sound better than normal.

As for wind, yeah, that's never going to change. That just screws with the microphones that need to listen to the outside noise. Sometimes using the Optimizer can help when it fails to block out certain outside noises, but wind is never gonna help. You either turn off ANC, or just turn up the music until the wind is fully blocked out :D

Flagship to me means most important.

Is the Mi 6 the most important device for Xiaomi? Nope.
Is the A1 the most important device for Google? You can make an argument it is, considering how much it'll sell and where it will sell, plus when you consider what Google's business model is.

Just look at Samsung, the Note is obviously their most high-end device, but their flagship will be the S8.

Damn $375 for a Moto Z 2 Force is nuts. Such Bomba.

I just got one a few hours ago. I'm actually typing on it right now. The deal was just too good to pass up and I was growing so tired of my Honor 5X.

I don't plan on keeping it too long though. It's just to hold me over until the G7 next year. Unless I find it disappointing, then it'll just be something else.

Hot takes on my first android wear watch, that kickstarter ticwatch e, $120ish.

Watch is shit. Android wear is shit compare to samsung/apple. spent 30min trying to sync my google account to this shit. had to disable wifi on my phone to get to work. Same with dling apps on play store... which I can't do from the phone, only from the dinky watch playstore. The power button is on the left of the watch. no other watch or smartwatch does this. Shit. Battery went from 100% to 15% in 3 hours. Apparently this is intended behavior. they even mention it on their amazon shop description. I've never owned an electronic that actually needs power cycles lol. You suppose to do that shit before shipping the device.

TLDR: android wear is buggy and shit. this watch is busted and shit.

I dont get any of that on ny LG Watch R. Barely ever get any bugs. Sounds like an issue with that watxh in particular, because if I download an app that has a watch counterpart, it downloads it to the watch too.
