Bayo 2 was a major disappointment for me, having only just finished it, and as someone who considers the first among the best action games ever made. The pacing is B2 is just atrocious, with bad cutscenes constantly interrupting fights that never last long enough, and against too many giant enemies that just aren't very fun to brawl with. The last few chapters are such a drag! I'm really, really hoping B3 gives the combat more room to breathe.

bayo 1 gets better the more you get into the mechanics an up the ante in difficulty

jeanne 4 boss battle at ultimate climax it's still one of the best fights i have ever played on a videogame

bayo 2 on the other hand gets worse the more you play it but it's more palatable for the average customer.

yeah bayo 2 has several problems in the combat department..even when you don't realize it immediately you definitely "feel" if if you played the first one for any extended period of time...this youtube video pretty much sums up my problems with the game

and also made me realize some i didn't even knew i had :P

you guys are making me less excited for bayo 2 :(
well considered you only played bayo 1 on easy and apparently never replayed it on made a dive into the mechanics, you will probably enjoy bayo 2 just fine..maybe even more...
the problem is when you explore the vast ocean that is bayo 1 combat and then end up in the puddle that is bayo 2

tbh grace and glory were impossible for me until i switched to shotguns and learned to dodge offset

they never became 'easy' but they became non-scary very quickly

i'm playing bayonetta 2 now, and while it's good i think there's something wrong with the pace of the game. it constantly throws big epic moments at you (seems like every other enemy encounter is a huge boss), leaves no room to breathe, and makes those epic moments seem less special.
also i hate loki. the beginning made it seem like the game was going to be bayo's epic quest to save jeanne from hell, but so far it's only been about loki.

There's definitely a good amount of normal fights too. If you're already a few chapters in you probably know this already.

Really? Did you beat Infinite Climax yet? He's one of the worst enemies in the game. He's really nigh impossible to stun and pure platinum on infinity climax. Especially if you're fighting two or three at the same time.

god i hope bayo 3 has enemies that don't feel as annoying as some of b2's enemies

like the only enemy i don't really like in b1 is the wheels (they're annoying to hit) and the ships (because platforming on to them can be annoying)

Finally just wrapped up Bayonetta 2. I was in the middle of Kingdom Hearts 2 playthrough and the thought hit me-- I never even finished Bayonetta 2 Switch ver (nor did I ever finish the WiiU version either).

Feels good to finally have that wrapped up. Gonna go back through it on a harder difficulty now

Perfect for me. Liked it even better than the first

I never did play Nier Automata. So went ahead and got that from this Black Friday sale. Platinum Games is definitely one of my favorite Game Developers of all time gotta keep supporting them

Can someone explain the overall world of Bayonetta to me?

What exactly is the relationship between haven/hell and especially purgatory and the real world? Why are heaven's creatures so weird? When I am in Vigrid why do other NPCs not see me?

From what I remember, Heaven and Hell are not specifically good or bad, they are just holy and demonic. Purgatory is some sort of paralel world to the real world, while there you can have limited interactions with people in the real world, mostly by affecting the enviroment. Bayonetta can jump from Purgatory to the our world at will, if the NPCs cant see you and they are transparent, then you are in purgatory. Heaven creatures are weird because heaven is weird, from what I remember from religion in my earlier years, the depiction of angels in the bible was weird as fuck (not the winged holy ones), in these games holy creatures are weird too.

The initial Bayo world was a single realm that ended up split into three. The split is vaguely attributed to an imbalance in power that led to a reality shifting event. So in an attempt to separate power, you now have your "Light" in Paradiso, your "Darkness" in Inferno, and the Human World in between. The Human World and Purgatorio exist together, as mirror images.

Purgatorio is a neutral space, one that creatures of either side, as well as magically gifted people, can enter. While in this realm, you are invisible to those viewing from the other side (H.W), but you're still technically there.

The "angels" being weird is both design choice and a bit of religious commentary on Kamiya and PG's end. Both the "angles" and "demons" are these horrifying, self-interested species of monsters, but due to misinformation and deceit, the "angels" are hailed as these heavenly creatures that perform miracles and lead to salvation.

So I stopped playing Bayonetta 1 about 9 months ago. I used to play it this way after beating the game for the first time:
  • Normal mode:
    • Replay using Gaze of Despair
    • Replay same level without Gaze of Despair
    • Replay until I get minimum Gold awards in all chapters and jump into hard more
  • Hard mode:
    • Replay using Gaze of Despair (true Hell)
    • Replay same level without Gaze of Despair
I could get some Platinum awards but not as much as I would have liked to, but still had real fun with the game. I even tried Infinite Climax mode but I was nuts. I always used the sword as the weapon.

Now I'm playing Bayo 2, and after beating the game , I'm doing something similar right now at 2nd Climax mode:
  • Replay using Gaze of Despair (Bayonetta with Bayo 1 model)
  • Replay without Gaze of Despair (Jeanne, mix between Bayo 1 and 2 character models)
  • Replay without Gaze of Despair (Bayo with Bayo 2 model)
I want to get at least the gold award in all chapters before jumping to 3rd Climax mode. The game is still a real challenge using the Gaze of Despair. It's also easier to get Platinum awards with Jeanne, it may be harder with her to activate witch time, but she's destructive as hell. I feel mediocre after coming back to Bayonetta after playing the game.

The game is real fun, it may be easier than the first one, but still very enjoyable. I don't mind making the game easier for newcomers, it's awesome and less frustrating.

Any recomendations? Does anyone recommend getting the earrings of ruin? I've heard we may get lots of halos with them. I want more and more halos.

I have just one question: are you using Dodge Offset?

I think the main method for fighting enemies like Gracious and Glorious is to stay back, use Scarborough Fair (and/or Bazillions and Kilgore for feet) with dodge offset to just Wicked Weave them down, and this definitely helps for NSIC in general. It's a lot harder to play the game like a traditional action game (up in enemies' faces) when you don't have Witch Time, and no Witch Time is how the first game is designed.

Maybe you already know all about this, but I know when I first played Bayonetta I didn't know any of this, and I had a meh time as a result.

Here's Yoshesque (one of the most popular Bayonetta players) using Scarborough Fair and dodge offsetting/wicked weaving enemies down:

Good question. I already bought all the techniques, but to be honest, I'm not sure if I'm using it properly.

To be honest, this is the second time I'm playing both of them. I got the Wii U version back it's time, and even if I liked the games, I was horrible playing them. Don't know how I started understanding the mechanics this time, but now it's something totally different and enjoyable. This franchise rocks!!

Need help in bayonetta 1 Hardest diffculty, the problem is I can beat it no problem as there are infinity continues, but I have to play it very safely doing dodge cancel to get wicked waves or doing broken kilgore combos, Is this how am I supposed to play it because enemies are very fast and aggressive, they can attack you while you are in the middle of a combo easily.. I'm planning to beat the lost chapter after I beat this mode so I'm using it as a practice.

Any tips?

on infinite climax? Yeah, basically. I don't find NCIS super fun for that reason. Though I think you're better off parrying if you're getting attacked mid combo.

I'm just running through on normal again since I'm trying to unlock witch trials (for the fourth fucking time!) and god this game is good. I don't enjoy the switch triggers though I have to say, even on the pro controller they have a ridiculous amount of deadzone

Yeah on climax, every YouTube video I watched plays exactly like what I described above I fail to see how some people say this is the true Bayonetta experience and lower diffculties function as a training wheels. Parry is good but most of the times I find myself bashing the button and it seems like getting witch time on climax mode by parrying is extremely hard?

Goodluck on unlocking and beating the lost chapter, this chapter is a lot harder than Pantheon of Hallownest, only 2 tries soo far though.

I think i made it all the way to the final boss of the Witch Trials ONCE back on 360. I probably put dozens of hours into that thing.

I'll be totally honest, I only ever platinumed my way through NCIS by save scumming

Right, I'm gonna make a run to unlock everything in bayo 1 without using cheats (as far as I can.) My ranks on normal is bronze on average and i cant dodge offset and havent bought techniques like afterburner kick and some of the charms. Is it worth buy all the moves in the store and the charms? Help me get pure platinums!

First off, Sai Fung is a dumb grind, and is like one of the only thing that can't be unlocked by cheats, so just be prepared for that lol. It's for completing 100 missions.

I'd make sure to have all upgrades and weapons (so stuff from LPs) unlocked that you can have at this moment in time, and I'd say learning dodge offset is almost vital, because going for pure platinums is all about keeping combos and not getting hit basically. Also keep in mind that you can quit to main menu and load if you screw up a fight, rather than replaying the whole chapter, and for pure platinum you need to do every verse in a chapter.

I'd honestly skip using the Gaze of Despair, because you'll want to be taunting to enrage enemies and keep combos going anyways, plus it frees you up for Moon of Mahaa Kala and whatever else you need (the one that lets you take 4 hits for free is helpful). Get it for completions sake though.

actually i don't remember, does enrage reduce the hitReaction of enemies (i.e. knockback becomes flinch instead) as well in B1?

Right so one week later ive unlocked sai fung and have got 5 chapters to go for platinum on normal (ive done all the bosses already.)

I cant imagine going for pure platinums let alone doing all this all over again once I unlock Jeanne. Really contemplating using the cheat to avoid all this but money is tight atm. Good thing is im totally hooked on the game again and feel that im getting slightly better at the game
