As far as portal fantasy stories goes, SAO Season 3 has started off alright. Sufficient build-up, establishing a sense of mystery and the unknowns typical of new fantasy worlds, among other things.

MILF anime? WTF? LOL.

Slime Isekai ep.3:
Brutal slime, just brutal, lol. I love how he learns about the word and adapts as he goes along. This show is really fun to watch!

Iroduku: The World in Colors ep.2
Nice follow-up to the original episode. It did not have the dynamic moment like the first episode did, but they went a long way to frame the world and more of the characters in it. TheOST continues to be excellent as well.

Boarding School Juliet ep.2
Continues to be a fun watch as these two try to make it work. I'm surprised they make the comedy work so well.

Sono Toki Kanojo wa ep.2
I understand they are going for the "artistic" route with this 3min short, but that was, umm, ok, but lame?

Fairy Tail (2014) ep.1-3:
PEHgV0I.gif

Man, this starts off right where season 1 ends. The tournament has some nice action, but the story behind it all got some further explanation that wasn't shown in S1 and makes much more sense now. I'm looking forward to blasting through this as soon as possible to get caught up with the current arc.

Rurouni Kenshin ep.1-6
I'm trying to knock another show off my list that has been sitting there waaay too long now. So far, the characters are all interesting and the show has been pretty interesting with it slow world building and daily character intros. It will be hard watching two shounen anime's at the same time, but I hope they both are fun and entertaining.

Log Horizon was great mainly because of the way it approached the setting, characters, and how they reacted to being stuck in that world. Way less power fantasy and more dealing with other players and NPCs to survive. It also did something lacking in other MMO isekai, which was create, translate, and explain believable game systems and how they could be molded and manipulated. Hell, the economy structure of the world and how that folded in was insanely interesting.

Log Horizon's first season was great but I signed out somewhere during the 2nd season iirc, because it looked worse and the extended focus on the noob-troop was boring. I think.

Same. I enjoyed the first season for what it tried to do different, but that magic was largely lost in season 2.

DOnt understand why people use Crunchyroll apps considering the power of mobile browsers these days, also I could never get over CR apps playing subs in non english language, or taking hours to update a new episode, or playing it in only the lowest resolution possible for the first hour after theyve uploaded the episode.

SSS GRIDMAN 1-2
I must say, it is quite a well directed show and i can really feel Hideaki Anno influence here. The way the shot framed, fish eye shot, background scene and minimalist sound to highlight the atmosphere. Lots of reference to old mecha and tokusatsu show too. The dialogue is more closer to live action show than anime if that make any sense.

Hearing that the show already near or finished production mean that i can hope for the quality to be consistent at the very least

Slime 3
While I didn't expect the bit about naming monsters draining magic, I knew the idea of "named monsters" would definitely be a big deal. The post-naming section had me rolling. Nice to see things quickly moving forward as well. Slime is gonna have an army before long.
Angels of Death 13-14
Seems like the majority of things for Rachel have been taken care of with her recognizing herself and having a will of her own instead of clinging to the idea of needing a "god" to save/kill her. The Priest still putting in work as well to both help as a guidepost to Rachel's growth as well as a roadblock to overcome. Still not sure what his end goal really is outside of pushing Rachel toward reform at this point. I assume this whole system was built as a way of her to gain some level of humanity by way of Zack. I'm still questioning whether or not she'll end up dead by the end of the series or if she determines she doesn't need to die to pay for her sins.

They clearly had little to work with in terms of resources but it's such a love letter to manga that somehow it works. +That song

Running with the Wind 3

This isn't really working for me. The characters are like what, 20? At least one of them is a college graduate. But apparently all they needed to start running was a, OMG you wouldn't believe it, girl.

Run with the Wind -3

This is really fucking good despite a few directorial hiccups here and there. When watching it, I keep thinking of all the issues with Welcome to the Ballroom and how this is so much better. Haiji is too good, dude not only convinced some of them but gaslit them.
I really liked this scene because it twisted the usual conversation trope of someone minimizing a challenge and another person correcting them.

Run with the Wind 3

Haiji is still the funnest character in this, but I'm starting to warm up to the rest of the cast. Seeing some of them slowly start getting into it, despite his trickery, is really nice. especially when they rebutted Kurahara at the end.

Which streaming service should I sign up to if I want to get my anime fix in? Which service has the largest selection and an app that is user friendly?

Thanks.

I cut down my shows to 11 now. I'll give the trashier shows a chance in the future when I have less on my menu. I actually expected the goblin chief to get another buff when Slime gave him a title. Run with the Wind was also great this week. Warming up to more of the cast. The twins didn't bother me that much this week. Maybe I'll even like them next week, if this trend continues. I gave Alicization another shot despite its lackluster start, and I don't think I regret it. Managed to get my attention. Keep the melodrama out, and maybe it'll stay that way. Oh, and Zombieland is at 2 for 2.

I think overall Crunchyroll is your best option. Good selection, functional queue - aside from not being able to rearrange it in apps though, but otherwise good app. Funimation is a good option if you like English dubs and don't mind the queue being broken at the moment, but the app is fine. VRV is a pretty good mix of Crunchyroll and Funimation shows (with some notable exclusions, like the One Piece English dub), their queue sucked last time I checked, and their app was fine. I think their experience is overall more confusing due to how many services are bundled into one. HiDive is a weird one as far as selection goes, they've got pretty different stuff, but I think their app was fine aside from not letting me rearrange the queue. One notable negative for me with HiDive is their insistence on releasing old finished shows on a weekly basis like they're currently airing - that's dumb.

Perhaps I'm harping on queues too much, but I like being able to rearrange that shit after I add stuff to it. Funimation's queue via the website is the only one I'd say is straight-up broken. All the rest are fine. All of their selections are fine. All of their apps are fine, both mobile and set-top.

I feel like the best way to choose one is to check out https://because.moe to see what's available on each site, like: https://because.moe/?q=crunchyroll or https://because.moe/?q=hidive, or to search for the specific shows you have in mind. And just pick the service that has more of what you want. I have other suggestions but I already feel like I'm rambling so I'm going to stop now. :P

Do you have a preference towards dubs or subs?
No preference really.

Run With the Wind 3
I'm continuing to be real down with this so far, the group dynamic continues to impress and draw me in. Also, it was just a joke before but Kurahara seems to be Kageyama to the T.

It sure is.

IIRC it had a real bad case of a non-ending? Or I could be confusing it with something else I watched around the same time.

I think I'm gonna rewatch it, hmm.
Kind of.

It has an episode near the end (it was very satisfying) that can be considered the ending but then you have 3 or 4 episodes about some conflict in the other kingdom that can be considered OVA.

They were planning to make more episodes but couldn't due to the author's health or something (it has been a while since I read what happened but it was something along those lines).

In any case, it was awesome and I recommend it to everyone.

If your willing to pay for two service get Crunchy and HIDive. Crunchy having the large selection while HIDive having good amount of interesting shows like Revue starlight, land of the lustrous, and a few others.

Yeah, I saw 12 Kingdoms in the recommendations after I finished Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit. If it's anything like Moribito, I'm gonna love it.

Interesting. Yeah I picked up the series because people said the manga was good, I don't think I've ever read/watched a shoujo so maybe the pacing is a bit more foreign to me. I think what really helped this episode too is how the production flourishes totally worked, the kiss with the train going by and how that whole scene is directed, totally awesome.

Yeah, it's clear they don't have the biggest budget in the world to work with, but I think they're using what they do have really well--the train kiss scene, if anything, captured that moment better than the manga.

This is an aside, but I'm still annoyed that MAL won't give Yagate Kimi a 'Romance' genre tag--anyone who, like me, sometimes just goes on the 'Seasonal' tab and checks for the genres they like, could end up completely missing it. It totes has the tag on Baka-Updates etc.

If you loved Moribito then you will love it for sure!

I agree with you on SAO, Karen's anime was so much better it is not even funny. Got rid of all the garbage and replaced it with awesomeness.

Tokyo Ghoul :re S2 02

We're only 2 episodes in but this is already staking out a claim to the title of the worst anime ever. It's making the previous season and Root A look like competent shows too.

Fantastic! I'll move it up my queue--I absolutely adored Morbito. Balsa's just the best.

And yeahhhh... I really hope they're planning to make more GGO at some point. There's enough material to adapt, right?

I mean, I'd regard Seirei no Moribito as drastically better but also not particularly similar. They're both mature shows, though, and I can kinda understand the recommendation. Still, I think Moribito is on another level and therefore I wouldn't set the expectations quite as high. Moribito's storytelling is much more focused whereas 12 Kingdom's structure and pacing eventually lost me, despite originally strong impressions.

SAO getting any content at all is a fucking travesty.

(GGO being the exception because it's not actually SAO, of course.)
