The Club
Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing
Virtua Fighter 5 Banilla
Virtua Tennis 3/4
Stranglehold

There's tonnes they could still do
Holy shit, I love the random reference to The Club. :)

That's an under appreciated game. I would also love to see Virtua Tennis on XB1, but I do worry the player licensing is going to keep it from happening.

Since we're posting lists again. Here's my own list that'll probably never release in the near future. I'm ok, barely anytime for RDR and Crackdown.

Ninety Nine Nights
Chromehounds
Kingdoms Under Fire
Steel Battalion
Gun Valkyrie
Otogi 1 & 2

I *think* between BC and remasters (or both) my entire physical 360 library is playable on X1. At least, once Lego Harry Potter releases. (fake edit: actually I think I'm still missing Kung Fu Panda, lol)

Digitally I'm missing 20-30 or so, but the bulk of those were free titles I never played, lol.

The overreactions to this get to me. These are lead. engineers At this point they've done all the engineering needed for backcompat - the emulators are there and work fine, these aren't the people who were personally testing every single game. All it's saying is Microsoft are generally happy with the quality of their emulators (for good reason) and no longer require a full team to work on them.

Not, as for some reason y'all seem to think, that this is the death of backwards compatibility releases.

Yeah, the barrier to BC now is almost surely just publishers deciding to allow it. The emulator works, and I bet they have almost (if not) every game running internally. But the ultimate final say is with the IP holder. The whole reason I'm optimistic about Amalur is that the IP was held by the state of Rhode Island, and they weren't likely to even have a phone number of a person who would be able (or willing) to agree to anything legal other than a sale. Other games may be owned by publishers with weird hang-ups about these agreements (was it Toyota who thinks people driving their cars in games hurts their real-life sales? Nuts).

And I do expect all of this to move forward on future consoles. I don't see why MS would talk to these pubs to make these games available but in the agreement say something like, "the game can be emulated, but only on an Xbox One." The agreements likely just say "you can emulate this." Plus the business incentive is huge; imagine bringing home the next Xbox and your digital "Ready to Install" list had like 100-200 games on it, just waiting. Part of why I don't buy consoles at launch is that I'm still playing shit on the current ones, and I don't want to have a bunch of boxes hooked up.

I just finished Red Dead Redemption via back compat on my OG Xbox One. Great experience, plays better than when I originally played on PS3 and was especially surprised with how not-bad the controls were using X1 Pro controller. PS3 controller was a joke in comparison.

Looking forward to loading up disk 2 and playing Undead Nightmare for the first time. Might even check out RDR Online to hype myself for RDR2.

Bravo to the people at Xbox for such a good back compat program.

PGR 4
Top Spin 4
Ninja Gaiden 2

First two are unlikely but would be great, exclusive and no PC version. NG2 has to happen at some point

So 2 weeks out from RDR2. I'm just about to start at new game, AC: Odyssey. But I started to think, as I've never played the original RDR, this might be my best time to do it. I have an X, so I can play it at 4k and from what I've seen it holds up well for an old title. If I don't do it now after playing 2 I imagine it will be hard to go back to and I may never do it.

What do you think? Put some time into RDR1 in the lead up to 2, or play Odyssey and march into RDR2 as a new experience?

I'd say play Odyssey and read a plot summary for RDR before starting its sequel.
I haven't played rdr, BUT from what I've read, rdr was a better game in its time. Odyssey is... Fine... I got it based on good feedback from everyone but it feels like a big generic open world game. I just find it a bit bland. Purely personal opinion.

Worst case, try both. Allocate say 3 hours to each one and see what takes your fancy.

When we are at it: When no company can release a decent tennis game, at least bring back Topspin 4. Oh wait, licenses... .It hurts more in this sport than any other probably :/

I`m liking odyssey but if you just want something to pass time before you devote your attention to RDR2, might play something else.
Wouldnt recommend playing RDR, i find it a very overrated game that i still need to finish to this day because i get so bored with it every time i try that i drop it - but i know its not a popular opinion so hey.

Bruh, what are you waiting for? PLAY RED DEAD NOW.

Story, writing and characters are awesome, you need to play it before playing the sequel.

I totally forgot this was a thing. I barely recall the Game Informer cover story.

Start with the original RDR. Pretty sure the new one will be different enough for you to avoid game fatigue. I've been playing it myself. Although, I'll get a copy for RDR 2 well later than Day 1.

Having loved RDR1 at release and replaying it to completion in the last few weeks, I don't think you'll be missing all that much by skipping it, at least for now. It's still a good game but aside from a handful of characters and missions that really propel the story forward, I found it to be more of a slog than I remembered. RDR2 is a prequel and while we know certain characters who appear in the first will be present, and I'm sure there will be plenty of nods to where things eventually head, I can't imagine them being too prevalent for fear of ostracising new players. Granted, I can't say that with 100% assurance since it's not out, but playing the first game right before RDR2 might damage how refreshing the experience will be.

Rockstar aren't going to allow enjoyment of RDR2's story be totally reliant on a player having experienced its predecessor, so I'd say just jump in with the newest release. If you do and decide to play the first at a later date, at least you'll have a unique perspective with which to approach it that the majority of us won't.

I really want to see more OG XBox games release, especially Otogi, and Otogi 2. And Ninja Gaiden 2 is overdue on the 360 side.

Some new 360 games on sale right now:

Xbox 360:

Bulletstorm - $6.59
Bound By Flame - $3.99
Contrast - $1.99
Duke Nukem 3D - $3.29
Duke Nukem Manhatten - $3.29
Farming Simulator 15 - $4.99
Faery - $1.49
Final Exam - $1.99
Grand Theft Auto San Andreas - $9.74
Persona 4 Arena Ultimax - $9.99
RAW - $1.99
Rock of Ages - $2.49
SEGA Vintage Collection Golden Axe - $4.99
Trine 2 - $7.49

Duke Nukem 3D has never been on sale in the past 3 years and Bulletstorm hasn't in the past 2.5 years, so I'm guessing these will be BC pretty soon. Persona 4 Arena Ultimax may as well too.

That would be really interesting. Not sure if it's related but Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition will very likely be free on PlayStation Plus next month, so having the original be backwards compatible on Xbox One would be a nice counter (even though the Full Clip Edition is also on Xbox One).

It's also very interesting that Duke Nukem: Manhattan Project is BC but Duke Nukem 3D is not. Same goes for Persona 4 Arena being BC but not Persona 4 Arena Ultimax.
Also, before anyone buys any of the games MauroNL listed above, make sure what you want is compatible on Xbox One or not.

Does anyone else have issues with being unable to access Xbox Live on BC games when your modem resets/your NAT goes to strict? It happens to me all the time and the only way to fix it is to reset my console through system settings!

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax is listed as BC in Major Nelson blog post about this weeks sale. Could be an error, or its coming to BC today.

Daytona USA is also on sale but its not coming up for me in any of the sales pages.

Just hopped onto the website and bought it there directly. That was a nice surprise as I was under the false impression it had been delisted!

It's a shame that the Enhanced for One X program for 360 titles appears to have been abandoned. It played a part in my decision to finally buy an Xbox One & is one of the things that has impressed me most - even before I had the opportunity to play in 4K.

RDR is a mediocre game with bad controls and uneven writing.

Odyssey is a much better, more mature game.

Same. What is especially disappointing/frustrating/confusing is that, if you think about it, we were only a couple years or so away from enhanced BC games being available to a much wider audience. We're assuming MS has abandoned X enhancements because the X audience is too small to be worth it, but I say that shows a remarkable lack of forward thinking on their part. With Xbox Scarlett and Xcloud, far more people would've had access to 4K BC games, and it could've been a really compelling reason to jump onboard with both. Now no one gets 4K enhancements. :(

It's an excellent world with a lot of attention to details. It's just not a very good game. It pleased a lot of people back in the day (but so did GTA4), but in hindsight it was a pretty mediocre game imho too. Assassin's Creed or Far Cry games had a far better understanding of how open world games should be played. Fight me :P

Honestly, I thought they'd drop support completely after like a year and only ever put the most popular 360 games up, but the fact that it's still going (albeit slowly) and they're putting up niche stuff and giving a second life to some titles, I'm impressed. I do wonder about the future of the service though, what happens if they theoretically run out of titles to put up? Will they allow BC games to be streamed and played on my PC eventually? Will they all carry over natively to the next iteration of Xbox?

I waited since day one for the MGSHD collection and when it finally came, that felt like closure to me. I'll be excited if they talk more about the service at the X018 event but I'm not holding my breath.

All this stuff has to work on future Consoles. Otherwise, what was the point? I'd be livid if they dropped support for BC games on Scarlett. The library they have now is fantastic in large part thanks to BC.

I'm hoping one of the things they do is a universal solution for BC so you don't need them to package a game, it just works physically or digitally. One can dream.

There are dreams and there are wild fantasies. There's no way to make a "one work for all" solution to BC without touching the hardware and scrapping everything they worked on so far
