Chow Yun Fat has been a huge favourite of mine ever since I watched A Better Tomorrow in my early teens. Awesome to hear that he's doing this with this massive fortune. A legit living legend.

Absolutely awesome of one of my favorite actors. That's one of my goals as well if I ever become wealthy.

Somewhere on Reddit: Heh, nice virtue signaling. This won't get you any chick's number.

He is an extremely handsome man, and seems to only be getting more handsome with age. I don't think he will have any issues.

When I see the charities, I'll be more at ease. But still good on him regardless.

As for the surprise at how much he's worth... really, if he's been a frugal person his whole life and has a good investment banker, it wouldn't take much to multiply his movie paycheques.

The people who use phrases like "virtue signaling, white knight, SJW, cuck" don't care about that. Their point is that no one does anything good or expresses empathy or understanding without trying to gain something in return. Because those are such foreign concepts to them.

Oh, I know. But it felt like a good excuse to post more pictures of Chow Yun Fat.

What a boss, such a great actor in the early '90s. If you had to pick just one entry, you owe it to yourself to watch Hard Boiled. Easily one of the top 10 action movies of all time.

I wonder what charitable causes he will put this towards though?

Holy shit. And I initially went and converted the 700, thinking it was HKD.

He didn't amass his fortune from gambling, did he?

I spend about 102 on myself too. Nobody makes celebratory threads about me!

I want to believe this story, I love the dude, but at the back of my mind I'm thinking "mainland China has a shitty relationship with actors, are they just taking his money and forcing him to say he's giving it away to charity?"

Awesome down to earth guy. I love this video when he was just interviewed as a random citizen by a reporter talking about fresh chicken and frozen chicken.

Mr Yun-fat Chow should be in John Wick without a doubt, John Wick VS Hardboiled (Tequila)

Wish we got a Sequel to Hardboiled, and Hardboiled > The Killer

Now if only every rich person did this we'd have a society where nobody had to be poor.

Great man.

Yeah, he's the anti-Jackie Chan in that regard.

Girl I once knew taught Chow Yun Fat how to ride a horse for one of his film roles, said he was one of the nicest people she'd ever met. Everything I've ever heard about him, from everyone, is that he's a proper human being.

Indeed, I think some of it has to do with the entourage these guys have and the fact that Chow Yun Fat doesn't seem to have much of one. The likes of Jackie Chan, Stephen Chow and Andy Lau would have whole crews following them around and living off their wealth. I can't imagine any of them going to the market themselves to get grocery. An entourage probably wouldn't let them give their wealth away either.

Some guys are just nicer than others though, I remember Stephen Chow from his early days as a children's TV presenter, he would shout at kids and make them cry.

Had no idea Chow Yun Fat was worth that much, holy shit. Really puts into perspective yet again how big and unmentioned the entertainment industry can be outside of North America

legend forever for his movies with Woo, Crouching Tiger was dope too. very admirable position he's taking here. hopefully his money gets put to good use.

not to defend Stephen Chow, JAckie Chan and Andy Lau..but there are bosses of their respective production companies..their entourage is just part of the package if you are the boss.

Chow Yun Fatt as far as i know, does not own any production company. Thus the lack of a legion of lackeys.

Stephen Chow was like not really a model to imitate. Dude was a less awful version of Hitchcock when it comes to treatment of coactora and coactresses

Edit: not fair to him, heavily reported, but rumors nonetheless

This dude's a king, and that's because he found a way to live like a king by not spending money.

most auteur are like that...it's not like they deliberately want to be a jerk. They just treat their work more important than the humans involved playing them, that's all. I kinda can understand that as i have some sociopathic tendencies myself too. If I'm in their shoes and if i'm truly into my work and craft, the feelings of a few actors and actresses are the least of my concerns. I'm not defending their actions (as well as my perspective on it). It is what it is. You cannot expect empathy from someone when that someone has none to give.

If you are talking about directors that went overboard at the expense of their actors/actresses, Kubrick is another one.

What a bipolar forum. In the what would you buy with $300M thread people were getting ripped for not buying mansions and $750K cars. In this one someone is getting praised for not spending his fortune on himself.

Jackie already said he's giving away his whole fortune when he dies.
