These crazy modes are exactly what they should be doing a lot of. Bring me switched P/T mode. Show me one basic of your choice per turn mode. Perhaps a mode as crazy as normal Commander.

If they want to get some use of the Shadows over Innestrad-Kaladesh-Amonkhet cards they have coded for Arena but probably won't ever be released, making a Cube with those cards plus all the standard legal stuff isn't the worst idea in the world
No just make a regular Vintage Cube. There's not that many cards in it, just program those cards in.

I want to see the Black Lotus animation dammit

I mean, if they code the functionality of the cube, they basically have coded the entire history of magic. There aren't that many mechanics that aren't represented in some way in the cube!

Pretty sure banding, flanking, cumulative upkeep, phasing, amplify, sunburst, bushido, soulshift, cipher aren't in vintage cube ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Any Commander focused/leaning people read this yet?

http://www.starcitygames.com/articles/37865_Commander-Cards-You-Shouldnt-Play.html

I'm very interested to see what the EDH community response is.

I don't agree with all of those picks, but there's definitely an unspoken agreement in groups I've played with that certain cards are not to be played. You don't Turn 2 Smallpox and expect to get invited back to another game. You don't play Vorinclex or Static Orb. We live in a society.

About to do my first paper draft for Guilds. Pretty excited. Then I get to test some changes I made to my EDH deck afterwards. Should be fun. Arena is fun but it's just not the same without the social aspect.

Hypothetical: Is Standard better with Essence Scatter + Negate, or a new pair that's Critter+PW counter and a non-PW, non-Critter counter?

Is Jeskai control terrible or am I an awful player? Have a 20% winrate with it tonight, the lowest I've ever had with a deck. It seems extremely clunky. Plays a little bit of draw, a little bit of removal, a little bit of sweepers mainboard. Every matchup you have dead cards even post board. Loses on card advantage to Golgari because they can kill your planeswalker and you can't kill theirs, loses to any medium mono red draw... I lost to blue tempo which I thought I would win because most of your removal does 3 wonderful damage to 4 toughness djinns.

Surprised this deck is seeing play because even when I win it is a close thing. I'm not sure this deck has a nut draw. I played through 2 competitive constructed events on Arena because I thought maybe the deck needed sideboarding to win, and I didn't pick up a single game.

I know the answer is probably to learn to play but damn, that was the worst feeling. Azorius control pre-rotation felt much better.

It's in a pretty bad spot right now, I think. The main issue is that the each card in the current removal suite has a lot of cards that it doesn't line up well against and the card filtering/draw power leaves much to be desired.

Finally 3-0'd a draft after a week of drought and all it took was a Disinformation Campaign and a Thief of Sanity lol

I probably shouldn't mention it since I'm enjoying the free cards, but Ravnica Sealed on Arena feels pretty free right now. I've 7-X'd 4 of 5, which is, uh... technically profitable?

Probably just going to keep it rolling until I'm basically out of Ravnica cards I need.

3-0 with Golgari explore at my standard showdown. Went against Sultai and Grixis Control but didn't have a hard time with them. The other was a Dimir Surveil deck but I think the kid was new so it wasn't tuned well. Definitely liking Golgari. Wildgrowth Walker is a monster if it sticks

Kenji's latest youtube video LMAO

And I thought I drafted bad Boros decks before...

The funny thing is he made so many suboptimal picks.

Split a booster box with my partner tonight because they're trying to get into Magic. Of course they got a Foil Risk Factor when they play White/Blue control.

My Izzet burn deck is crying.

Todd Stevens Fired From StarCityGames for Allegedly Sexually Harassing Women #MTG
7:22 AM - 21 Oct 2018

I'm going to reserve judgement till we get an official statement from either SCG or Todd or a credible 2nd source- but if it's true and SCG did their due dillagence, my only complaint is why aren't you banning him from your tournaments forever

Also, boy, going to the reddit post about this and sorting by most controversal posts... turns out gamers are pretty terrible. Who knew?

Go to any subreddit and sort by controversial and you'll get something similar. The upvoted comments are all either supporting the decision to let him go or are further anecdotes about his behavior. I'd say the community is pretty firmly in the corner of SCG and the women involved here.

Big quiz up on Mothership today https://magic.wizards.com/en/articles/archive/making-magic/how-trivial-2018-10-22
This is actually a really good/hard one. Questions 5 and 6 were little nuggets of information I had heard in the past maybe once (I believe I head the info for Question 5 in thebooklet that came with the Anthologies boxset back in 1998, but you can logic it out as described in the solution). I stopped at question 25 as I don't know jack shit about Magic Lore post like 2005 and my knowledge of Magic sets post Return to Ravnica is a lot smaller than the sets before. I was writing my answers down and I only got 2 of the first 25 wrong
For question 13, I just guessed the largest number. I'm surprised the real answer was as low as it was. For question 18, I forgot that Mr Cowards can't Block Warriors came 1 set before Mistmeadow Skulk.
I predict that Question 19 will trip up a lot of people (for some reason there were no walkers in Alara Reborn)
I also take issue with Question 10- the answer they are looking for is the logical correct answer (foils), but there was a foil Lightning Dragon in Urza's Saga that was a pre-release promo for the set

I did pretty decent on the quiz. There were some interesting tidbits.

Hasbro Investor Report
Hasbro's total gaming category, including all gaming revenue, most notably MAGIC: THE GATHERING and MONOPOLY, which are included in Franchise Brands in the table above, totaled $447.8 million for the third quarter 2018, up 5%, versus $424.8 million in the third quarter 2017.This category was up 1% to $964.2 million for the nine months 2018 versus $951.4 million for the nine months 2017. Hasbro believes its gaming portfolio is a competitive differentiator and views it in its entirety.

Third quarter 2018 Franchise Brand revenues decreased 5% to $847.7 million. Revenue growth in MONOPOLY, PLAY-DOH, MAGIC: THE GATHERING and BABY ALIVE was offset by declines in NERF, MY LITTLE PONY and TRANSFORMERS. Both MY LITTLE PONY and TRANSFORMERS had a theatrical film in 2017. Franchise Brand revenues grew slightly in the U.S. and Canada segment and were up in the Entertainment and Licensing segment but declined in the International segment.

...

Hasbro Gaming revenue increased slightly to $280.8 million. Continued revenue gains in DUNGEONS and DRAGONS, DUEL MASTERS, JENGA and DON'T STEP IN IT, as well as new social game launches, were partially offset by declines in PIE FACE and other gaming properties. Hasbro Gaming revenues increased in the U.S. and Canada segment but declined in the International and Entertainment and Licensing segments. Hasbro's total gaming category was up 5% to $447.8 million, including growth in MONOPOLY and MAGIC: THE GATHERING.

Magic is doing pretty well, particularly since it isn't strongly affected by Toys R Us failing.

Fun quiz - I got 18 out of 30. I did best in the 2000s, which is unsurprising since that's when I first got into the game.

Brothers Yamazaki were in my first starter deck. Good times.

Getting pretty sick of the computer drafting on Arena. Walked a friend through drafting a deck and playing a game or two as he's new to Magic. All the opponents we faced were U/B. I've seen multiple comments too that the computer undervalues U/B. I thought people were just meming but it certainly feels like it's always open.

Small sample size, but AI drafting on Arena is legit not very fun. Super bizarre packs that you'd never see in person. Like Pack 1 Pick 9 is literally only green and white cards in the pack. Pack 1 Pick 10 is literally only red and blue cards in the pack. Pack 1 Pick 11 is literally only green and white cards in the pack. Might just be because I'm not used to the AI pick order so can't really "read" what's open when Disinformation Campaign is last pick even though there's no blue or black cards in any of the past 4 picks. I draft a ton live and saying this is different is an understatement. I think those who have suggested closing your eyes and forcing Boros or Dimir have it right.

I mean I'd like a more reasonable option for expanding card collections beyond "just literally crack packs".

I've played enough GRN limited I've basically completed my set.

During closed beta there was a point where they basically drafted a different set every week. I'd think they'd return to that eventually.

If anyone's looking for a Jeskai list to try out right now, I won a PPTQ with this on Sunday:

Disdainful Stroke is a good Magic card. And so are all the other ones in this deck, except for maybe Plains.
