Real sorry to hear it OP. I know the pain.
When I was 14 I got my PC stolen.
The guys stole my jacket from the back room when we held a private view of an art exhibition. Someone let them in without following the rules (no one should have been let in without their family member picking them up at the door) and they found my jacket with my keys in it. That was the only thing they stole from there. They apparently knew where I lived, went to my apartment, picked up my PC and our cameras, left and locked the door behind them. We didn't suspect a thing at first, but then obliviously realized that the place where my PC should be was empty. That seriously scarred me for life.
A year after that we had a "proper" break-in at my mom's guy's house. He was visiting us and they had truly ransacked the place while he was gone. Everything they didn't steal, they smashed. He couldn't sleep at home for weeks after because he felt so violated.
Never got anything back, but got some money from the insurances in both cases.
I have Arlo cameras now and DNA marked all my stuff, but I still can't ever relax away from home. :(
I won't say that everyone should get cameras or DNA mark their stuff and such, but one simple thing that can help a ton is to take photos. Take photos of your whole apartment now and then. Save backups of the pics. If something happens to your stuff (fire, flood, break-in) you have some proof of what you had at home.
