The Gutter, Shrine of Amana, and Frigid Outskirts all deserve a special place in Hell.

Gutter and Shrine get a lot easier the more you go through them. Frigid outskirts and that big room before the Smeltor Demon fight with it's bullshit aggro ranges in Iron Keep can burn in hell.

Me too. I do this in a lot of games as well lol. I think it goes back to playing LoZ, like I am expecting a chest to appear.

In fact I made a concerted effort to light every torch in DS2 hoping something would happen on first play through.

iirc, there was one puzzle in the game that involved lighting all the torches in an area.

I finished Dark Souls III today, first Souls game I ever finished (never could get past Ornstein and Smough). I also finally beat Vicar Amelia the other day after having reached her over a year ago. Going through Archdragon Peak right now, after I beat both bosses I'll have beaten all the base game bosses then it's either DLC or NG+.

I did that too, it's a shame there wasn't a little ingame item reward for doing so.

After googling to see if it actually did something, apparently it did according to someone,

"Things Betwixt gets you a Petrified Something.

Gutter gets you Black Witch Veil (formerly a rare drop from a one-time Belfry Sol enemy) plus the other three normal pieces of that set.

Aldia's Keep gets you Aldia Key."

I had all these things but I have no recollection of the torches being the key to getting it. Memory so fuzzy lol.

These are additions in SOTFS, right?

When do you guys tackle Ashes of Ariandel in DS3? Before or after Lothric Castle?

Yep, Scholar added more incentives to use the torch, I really liked that.

Edit: to the question above, I'd say after, but that's just me.

DS2 progress: Things were going so well in The Lost Bastille. I'm now using the Grand Lance and I love it; it one-shots most normal mobs and unlike most weapons it excels in cramped hallways (of which there seem to be many in DS2). I made it all the way to the fog door without using any estus or lifegems. Then I decided to backtrack to the places I could now get into with the Antiquated Key. Then the Pursuer appeared out of fucking nowhere and destroyed me in 10 seconds.

Reclaimed my Dark Souls save! I was not as far ahead as I had thought I guess. I think I need to go to the Depths now since I have the key and I have no idea where to go else.

Black Friday Souls noob here.

I picked up DS3 deluxe and am ready to get started but I'd like to have a build planned out first. Im planning on being mostly PVE and looking for the best PVE build. Doing some research it seems the three build choices are str, dex, or quality which seems like both. I'm leaning towards dex. Want to be like a ninja or reaper.

Beyond that I've got nothing so any help or advice is appreciated.

Those 3 choices are solid. Quality will give you the most weapon variety, but if you wanna be a ninja then go for it. Sharp infusions improve dex scaling.

Don't build a glass cannon if it's your first playthrough. Invest in a decent amount of health, because getting hit is how you learn to deal with attacks in this game. If you get oneshotted too easily, you will die a lot and spend a lot of time re-attempting a given section or boss, which can be frustrating.

Even fast, lightly armored characters need to be able to take the occasional hit. I don't mean you need to be tanky, but you it helps if you don't get oneshot too easily. It is much easier to learn how to fight bosses when they don't constantly oneshot you.

Second, spend time getting to know your weapons. There are often a lot of little nuances to each weapon's moveset that you will find useful.

Third, you c
an roll to break things like barrels. You don't need to swing your weapon at them.

Don't be afraid to use miracles. I have like a dex/faith thing in DS2 and it's actually a pretty potent character. I wonder if that build would work in DS3. Granted I'm spread between dex, faith and int..and attunement.

Got it. It seems like you just pump dex to 40 and the rest of your points are going into things that boost your hp, right?

Correct. If you're building a fast, dex-based character, your priorities are damage (dex), stamina (forgot the stat name) because fast characters do multiple attacks and roll a lot, and then whatever stat gives you more max health.

Depending on your weapon, you may want a bit of strength too, since some dex-based weapons need some strength to be able to hold them, even if they mainly scale on dex.

If I could describe those 3 playstyles in a few words,I would say that str build is mainly for big weapons like hammers, axes, clubs or berserk type ultraswords, quality is for greatswords or swords, typical knight stuff and dexterity is more of a ninja/rogue style katanas, curved swords or scythes.

Based on what you say,I'd say yeah go with dexterity, but I bet you'll eventually love all playstyles in this game.Everytime you start a new playthrough with a different build, the whole game will feel different

You should probably put a few points into endurance too so you can attack more, dodge more, sprint more, etc.
Awesome thank you guys, can't wait to dig in.

A Demon's Souls remaster on PS4 would be awesome. My PS3 is on its last leg and I don't want to pick up DS and then have my PS3 die on me--the controller is already almost dead 100% of the time--so if I could get a PS4 remaster that would be amazing.

DS2 is on sale on Steam for 10 bucks. SoTFS is also on sale for the same price. Which is better (yes I know DS2 apparently isn't as good as DS1)? I heard SoTFS isn't just an upgrade and messed with enemy locations a little too. Or is there no reason to ever buy the old version?

SOTFS also comes with all the DLC, so to get all the DLC and the vanilla DS2 you have to pay more. SOTFS has its pro's and con's. I liked it quite a bit, but apparently some people weren't fans.

Yeah I realized that right as I made the post lol

I was just bemused that both DS2 base and SoTFS are the same price.

The remaster theory seems unlikely. What could be is that they are preparing a new game to announce on PSX and will use Demon Souls servers?

so, finally, i got a ps4 + Bloodborne! I only had a gaming pc so i just played (a lot lol) dark souls, II and III. Never played Demon's Souls. I'm playing the game right now and while i'm not blind (because i watched a lot of ENB videos) this game can kick my ass badly, but i'm loving it! I'm playing offline on a 4k tv
I had some problems getting used with the controller and the framerate honestly, but after few hours of struggle it's fine now.
What can i say? The game is gorgeous (yeah it's not the 4k pc version of dark souls III in terms of iq, but the art direction and general atmosphere is amazing, top!), the combat is cool and different. Bossess are challenging so far (i'm facing the shadows of yarnham actually). I did beat the cleric beast and father gascoigne on my first try, but the blood-starved beast and vicar amelia both kicked my ass a lot before i was able to beat them. I started as a waste of skin with the axe but i got the kirkhammer and Ludwig's asap basically to be able to use a longsword (my weapons of choice in souls games usually).
Also my god, the weapons and garbs textuers are fantastic, japan studio is something else ( i think they helped a lot the amazing From artists).
I'm very happy with my purchase, finally!! honestly it was absurd that i had never played this GEM being a From/Big M. lover and a HUGE Lovecraft fan (one of my favourite writers all time).

The Grand Lance is one of my favourite weapons in the series. I had it infused with lightning, with a faith/strength build.

Apparently you only find that later on in the original version of DS2, which makes sense, because it is almost too good for a weapon that you find really early on SotFS.
