Anything with licensed music would be a problem, I guess. That's why neither Wipeout or Gran Turismo are on there.
Yeah I get those I guess. But not Tomb Raider or Spyro or Crash Bandicoot or Silent Hill or SotN or Parappa missing. This is supposed to be a celebration of nostalgia and we get Cool Boarders 2, Rainbow Six, Persona and some legit unplayable Gen 1 games lol. And remasters existing doesn't really count imo. People would buy this thing for different reasons than a completely redone Crash or Spyro remake.

Damn I thought I don't care.

I'm pretty happy with the list -- of course, I would have loved Parasite Eve and Armored Core ... But, not bad. I'll keep my preorder

It doesn't have all of my favorite games (or even very many of them period) but I have to admit it's about the best list we could REALISTICALLY hope for. A great, diverse list of many types of games. Definitely keeping my preorder, and crossing my fingers that it will be hackable to add a few more of my favorites. Only 2 game on that entire list that don't interest me are Syphon Filter and Rainbow Six but the rest are all p much bangers.

While I'm amazed that Persona made the list and love that Jumping Flash did as well, there's ultimately not anything here for me. I'm either not interested in the games or already have a way to play them. I guess that's the problem with this only being 20 games. The PS1 had so many great and good titles that there's a ton of possible lists. Also, I will forever be weirded out by the use of the digital pad instead of the Dualshock

lol talked too soon.
Still can't believe Sony decided to include Toshinden in the PS Classic ...

Toshinden sucks but I have nostalgia for it. It was the first thing I played on a demo PS1 unit inside a Sony Style store and was blown away that they could do such a thing on a home console at the time. Remember this was the time when the VF home conversions were pretty bad, and games were still primarily 2D. Then BAT comes out and was fast with some anime style character designs. It was a launch system seller.

Licensing issues and the lack of classic inclusions "due to remakes" turned this console from a potentially amazing collection to a mediocre one. Shame.

I have a weird place in my heart for Toshinden. My friend's mom worked at Motorola, and somehow had access to a Japanese Playstation a year before it came out in the U.S. and that was basically the only game we had... that and Ridge Racer, and so we played the FUCK out of those games...

Honestly surprised that they didn't include a single Crash Bandicoot or Spyro game. I did a bit of a double take when I couldn't find them

Man, Battle Arena Toshinden is such a terrible game. If they wanted to include a playstation-focused fighter beyond Tekken, they should have gotten a Bloody Roar game.

Oh yeah Toshinden is a big nostalgia hook for me, too. It's the game I convinced my parents with to get me a new console because the graphics impressed them so much. I played it loads on Saturn and then when I got my Playstation I bought Star Gladiator and never touched it again lol. Toshinden 2 won me back again.

Twisted Metal 1 but not 2 :\

I can actually see BAT being on there, I guess that game defined the US launch more than any other title (even Ridge Racer) and Sofia was briefly a mascot. During the launch period nothing screamed "Playstation" more than this game. Ridge Racer aged better, but it's already represented by Type 4

Really surprised at Persona 1 being on there

Will pass on this, unless it does a really good job with filtering the graphics and is as moddable as the S/NES Classics

Damn what a disappointment. Some of the games might be nostalgia classic but weren't very good at the time and will be terrible today. A PS1 version of rainbow six? Yeah that'll be fun to play with that controller. I will say Rayman is a nice surprise though

I think we need to remember that some games were probably left out do to no analog controls -- there may be another classic next year lol

Castlevania not being there hurts. Seeing parasite eve on the Japan one sucks, I'd take that over most games on the list.

An interesting yet ultimately disappointing list. Still in for one simply for the novelty.

Yeah like I said it's a crappy list regardless. I guess it's the result of not having strong first party output. Unlike Sony, Nintendo doesn't need to rely on what third parties can throw at them for their retro throwback machines.

It's fine to have nostalgia for a game or like a game not everybody appreciate.
But would you ever choose Toshinden in a 20 spots 'best of' selection of the most iconic PS1 games? It's even more ridiculous when you think that Tekken 3 was already included and PS1 iconic series like Gran Turismo, Tomb Raider, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro and SotN were left out (or for the japanese market iconic series like Everybody's Golf and Parappa the rapper).
It's a weird inclusion from my point of view.

This is actually what I fear will happen.
A second PS1 Classic which will render obsolete this one (with analogs and a better selection of games).

For being D-pad only and in terms of the licensing required for many games this list is surprisingly pretty damn good.

Well, it wouldn't be obsolete since we'd get different games lol you'd still have both to play.

ps1 classic is solid enough for me, im interested(or have enjoyed in the past) over 2/3s of the game, I need a convient way to play ps1 games(don't want to deal with ps2/3s anymore) and it should hopefully be hacked, if not in a few weeks, in a few months

I said this...

It's very, very slim chance but...

I wanted this in one of the 20 games preloaded.

6089_front.jpg

Everyone could experience the horrendous loading times, first person dungeon crawling, slow battle speed, Americanized Japanese characters & setting, and pray no enemies Mudo your entire party while far from August Tree (save point), lol.

At least it has the original music.

This game has it charms.

I won the lottery somewhat.

The list is basically half of what it could be, because they're selling other classics through other means. No Chrono Cross, Silent Hill, Tomb Raider, Spyro, Crash, Symphony of the Night, etc.

It's gonna be a pass for me.

Yet this crappy list is going to be sold out prompting Sony to make a PS2 classic and so on so why are you so bothered by it?

Why are you so bothered by my post?

edit: I actually wonder if there will be a PS2 classic. At some point it probably doesn't make enough financial sense to make these retro consoles. PS2 needs much beefier hardware to be emulated, plus storage requirements for multiple DVD games. I also don't really expect a Gamecube classic tbh.

I remember trying the Toshinden demo on the launch disc amidst all that new hardware hype and before Tekken.

I had no desire to play any more of it even then.

I'm just commenting on this news, how does it make me bothered?

You're the one acting defensive.

Yeah, you have no intention of elaborating on your comment so I'm done with you. On topic, I didn't see, but does the console come with two controllers or do you have to go out and buy a separate one. Also, not liking that you have to buy a separate AC adaptor. Let's not be cheap like Nintendo here Sony.

It's a fucking terrible game based on that demo alone, and that was my impression of it back in 1997. Imagine playing BAT in 2018. Hell, I can't!

What a waste of a spot. That and Rayman and Cool Boarders 2.

Ok, but will I have to buy memory cards for it, Sony? Come on man, details!

This is a good question.. Did they ever shoot down those rumors about being able to download games from the PSN store for this? I remember reading about that and I dunno if it was confirmed or not, cause if you can download stuff from the PSN store to add to it, I have no problem.

Does anyone recall how long it took for the NES and SNES classics to get hacked? I really wanna throw THPS2 and Armored Core on this thing if possible lol

I have read there is no additional support being provided after release. No downloading on PSN either.
