PS4 version is great, I've had it since it came out overseas, and I keep buying the Donder Pack collections too.

Now I just purchased the US Switch version and waiting for it to download. Rhythm games are my weakness!

EDIT: I didn't know YouTube had a theme song lol.

The amount of DLC is crazy for this game and I don't see that expantion pack for PS4 for some reason, just individual songs in dlc section. o.O

Speaking as an (obvious) Zootopia fan, does the Switch version have "Try Everything" as an unlockable? Because it's not in the starting list.

Looking at the lists on the previous page, looks like that's on the PS4 version and not the Switch version.

(I also think it'll be the Japanese version of the song, if that matters?)

Pretty sure I'm going to grab the a Switch version. The pull of the Evangelion and One Piece themes is too strong.

Now if only they had Melissa from Fullmetal Alchemist and the original Naruto OP, I'd be golden.

The drums are disappointing from the little I've played so far. Feels like you have to hit rather hard to register notes. Maybe the drums just need some use.

Thanks for all the drum impressions folks. You're making me feel better about not buying them. I think I'll be fine with buttons or touchscreen.

The Eva theme is in both versions.

Lol, yeah I know. Sorry, I worded that badly!

I didn't mean Switch vs. PS4, more about buying it at all right now. Switch is a given for me. It's only the Attack on Titan theme I'm gonna miss.

How are the switch motion controls? That would be the way i would play it if bought

There's a demo.

Does anyone know if one can use a rockband drum kit with the game? I would really like to play this with my edrums, which use the rockband interface.

I'm not a Taiko expert by any stretch, but I liked it in the tutorial, then missed just enough hits in a "normal" difficulty song to say "never again."

The issue, for those who haven't seen footage: you have to snap your wrists "straight down" for a drum hit, or snap your wrists at a diagonal angle for a side tap. Unsurprisingly, without some sort of physical object in the mix to confirm how you're waving, this is very hard to pull off consistently, especially with both hands. And it registers phantom hits when pulling the wrist back to hit back down. The result is certainly better than the old Wii days, but not by much. This'll be touchscreen-only for me.

I did love that the Joy-Con rumble can be used to calibrate TV delay. Way easier than having to press buttons myself a la Guitar Hero.

Agreed. I've been doing the best with the touchscreen.

I'll give you a hint: if your timing is right, you don't ever need to swipe diagonally. With perfect timing the game only cares that the controller is moving in a roughly downward motion, and automatically chooses the correct type of hit. I actually bought the drums because of that, the game's normal difficulty was just too easy and simple without having to worry about the two types of hits.

I enjoy the joy con controls just because they're fun to do and the feedback from the HD rumble feels good

but if you're legit trying to get the highest scores, it's far from ideal

also the drumrolls give my arms a hell of a workout!

I just saw a tip that said you can hold down the L/R buttons on the joycons while playing with motion controls to simulate a diagonal swing

that seems like it'd be a lot easier

Basically, it coresponds to the JP Donder Pack. Vol 7~12 Pack minus the Namco Original "Taiko Drum Monster/steµ feat. siroa", which is offered when this pack is purchased, but with the JP pre-order music (Namco Original "Ryuu to Kokuen no Himegimi ") and the "Deemo DLC" (Game Music - Saika).

No. They said it was out for delivery today, even showed where the van was nearby, but then didn't actually deliver. You?

My bro called and Amazon gave him some bs about difficulty taking payment. Cancelled and ordered again. Now saying they will deliver on Monday.

Try you're local Argos for stock. That's where I went as didn't trust Amazon.

Fuck!

I bought the game and I found the motion controls to be awful, I can never get the blue hits to work.

God, Bandai Namco US really fucking dropped the ball on this release. No demo, digital only, no drum controllers... they never even updated their fucking websites to have the tracklists. I was honestly really excited about this, now I think I'm just gonna wait for a sale.

Picked up the game on PS4 & Swtich. Playing the classic anime them Let it Go from Frozen in its native Japanese is something. Wait....

Not sure I'll ever change out of the hatsune miku drum cosplay on the PS4 version. Just amazing.

I look at this video and doesn't seem to be bashing the drum relentlessly

I mean, I might be mistaken. I believe I have to drum harder (but the video appears to be pretty hard to me?), but it's impossible to say. The right side is more sensitive for me, with the left being less. I mean, it's not a huge issue, but it doesn't really feel that good. I'm also still trying to find the best calibration option for me, though, which is proving more frustrating than I thought. Wish it wasn't so annoying to calibrate.

Don't know. The arcade version felt like a joy and flawless to me, and touch is pretty alright as well. The drums don't feel nice at all so far. I might just have to get used to it!

I definitely need to dig into the calibration. Personally I don't find the hitting of drums that problamtic.

Definitely feel the calibration is off though

And the separate releases with different song lists and digital price. It's a mess! Can't support this the ways it's handled at launch.

Oh yeah, it's a blatant ploy to encourage double dipping, but to be honest, I'm still glad to see this game coming west. Especially with the licenced tracks intact.

Edit: question for someone with the full game on Switch: do you have to click through that ridiculous EULA every time you launch it, like in the demo?

What you are describing is normal for the Hori drum. There are a lot of complaints about it on Amazon's Japanese site. There is a mod that you can do to increase the sensitivity if you are so inclined.

This surprises me as my impression was that people said it was more or less perfect? I guess I might have to consider mods unless I get used to it.

Not sure if this link will work, but it has 45% 1-star reviews on Amazon.

https://www.amazon.co.jp/【PS4対応】太鼓の...073TTRQND/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

The reason why the "People who bought this also bought..." section is full of cork boards and rubber sheets is because they are the materials used in the mod.

I ended up picking up the Switch version last night while browsing the eShop out of sadness that I couldn't play the Tetris Effect demo anymore.

It's not as polished or as pleasing to the eyes and ears as the PS4 version (which I imported long ago, so I am not double dipping on that one), but it is still really good. The default track list is bigger than I expected it to be and there are a lot of good picks. The anime and pop sections share a little too much with the PS4 game which hurts the value for me, but the return of the minigames makes up for that in a big way. I was happy to know that mini games were making a come back - I did NOT, however, expect there to be so many! The PS2 era taiko games would have 2-4 minigames each if they had any at all. This one has at least 10 out of the gate and lots of slots for unlocks to come later.

I am playing with a pro controller for now but considering importing a drum. I did NOT try the motion controls yet as I have a wrist injury right now that has rendered my right hand pretty much stationary for now. Compared to the DS4 the Pro Controller is not ideal for playing taiko - the left stick is too close to the d-pad and I bump it all the time. Still able to clear Extremes up to a 6 on it so it's not horrible, but it definitely comes as an annoyance.

I need more time with the game to really judge it, but I would say right now that if you don't care about the minigames and just want the best track list and the best quality taiko game to date, get the PS4 one. If you like the minigames and want that portability, then the switch version is still a great step up from the old Vita version, but after playing so many hours of the PS4 version you'll notice the drop in quality when it comes to the engine.

I wouldn't say it's a ploy to encourage double dipping. The different song lists makes sense. These are two entirely different games, with the PS4 game coming out last October and the Switch game this summer in Japan. It would be weirder if they changed them to have the same tracklisting.

They should be much much clearer about it, though. Especially with both releasing at once. Though they did at least give them different names, I guess.

And meanwhile, I'd like to get at least one of the versions still but I'm unsure of which. And should maybe play some other untouched rhythm games (Musynx...) first.

I was not aware that they were two different games. If that's correct, then I'd say the opposite criticism is valid: why are so many tracks shared? :P

There are always some tracks that appear in multiple Taiko games. Look at Natsumatsuri as a shining example - I swear that track is in more games than it isn't! These two releases came out close to one another so the tracklists have a lot of common pop and anime songs. Looking through the list last night I would say I saw about 8-9 shared tracks, which is significant, but there are a much larger number of non-shared tracks that make buying both versions a viable and not financially horrible option. In my case, I am just not buying the NA version of the PS4 game because I already have the JP version, which has the same tracks and is already in English.

If you only play off TV, don't care about the minigames, and want the best actual Taiko game experience, go with the PS4 version.

If you enjoy the minigames, want to play on the go, and don't mind a slight downgrade in audio/visual quality because the last time you played Taiko was that abortion of a PS2 release we got in the states over a decade ago, then the Switch version is still a great pickup!

Huh. I got the impression when I looked that there were more shared tracks than that.

Switch version is a no brainer for me anyway. I'll almost never play on the TV. Might grab the PS4 one if it ever goes on sale just for Attack on Titan, though.

The 8-9 count is what I saw just going through the list last night and running off of memory. There are probably more, but I wouldn't think it's more than 15-20% of the tracklist. Just played some of the switch version on lunch in handheld mode, and it is really great in that capacity - it'll replace V-Version on the Vita as my go-to portable Taiko game.
