Even the stuff like taking John's son fishing? I had a squiz at the guide and it's supposed to come from Abigail, but given she's vanished into the ether I'm not sure if/when I'll get to do it.

She'll be back for those.

But, if you have an earlier save right after chapter 1... Just do any quest except Uncles first.

Has anyone figured out the weight system yet?

My bars and cores are always full, bit I'm underweight. How much do you need to eat per game day to retain a perfect weight?

Beware of the Nite Folk.

Is this the area with the cannibals?

I was riding at night, got ambushed with cries of "we're going to eat you!". Was actually terrifying.

R1 does absolutely tons of contextual stuff from cover to changing item focus
Ah ofcourse, cover and identify stuff. Well that settles it, I can't imagine them putting it anywhere else on the controller. It really deserves its own dedicated button.
If your gun is out, L2 aims. If your gun is holstered, L2 focuses on someone/something. When you're focused on someone, R2 draws your gun as an escalating behavior.
Yeah I get how it works but its not the most intuitive system. Its really best to have your 'Aim Weapon' be the same button in all situations.

I feel that the hype killed some of the enjoyment for me. Yes, you can do more things than most open worlds and its more realistic but there are far more things you now expect to be able to do which you cant do! Why cant I enter some buildings especially if a cutscene had someone enter it? Why cant I kick the fish that jumped out of the pond back instead of clumsily picking it up? Why is there just one throw animation and I cant toss people into windows, etc? Why is every interaction merely defuse or antagonize? Why is the bounty system so broken and lawmen appears out of thin air? Why when I smash running into a store and break a window the shopkeeper doesnt care? Why are the seasonal changes only limited to particular areas? I can go on and on.

Plus, the rain looks worse than in Horizon or Driveclub which is paradoxical for a game filled with so much detail elsewhere. Oh and the npcs in the theatres.. look so so bad.

The game has so many closed doors, lots of huts in the middle of nowhere that seem abandoned and you can't even break in. Feels really restrictive in a game this detailed.

Every time I see the 'witness' icon pop on screen:

olB0hX5.gif

Ha, perfect! I do the same. Nothing like lassoing a fleeing witness then dragging them off to a quiet spot to discuss the error of their ways.

Yeah, Abigail and Jack will magically appear when that mission is available for you to play, but not any other time.

I stopped to look at a lynching victim just a little northwest of Saint Denis, and got ambushed by three guys. They didn't look too dangerous, but one of them ran up and stabbed me for a OHK. Same people, or was that something different?

I don't remember where it was... they sounded and looked like hill billy stereotypes, and they'd dug a pit to trap their victims. Seemed to be a random encounter.

Especially with the much discussed 100-hour crunches, huge budget and 8-year development time. Its like all of it went on the lighting.

I wouldn't take it that far, there is a LOT in this game that shows they put a great deal of effort in.

It's actually because of the huge amount of detail and interactions that things like this stand out. Game is still incredibly impressive, imo.

If you hogtie a person and throw it alive into lake / river, Arthur say "At least I will remember where you are"

Also, during horse chases, try to shoot the horse in the head with shotgun... it will fall and most likely take the rider on the other side.

Yes but now some of the statements they made ring hollow. Its not revolutionary by any means but its very impressive.

I got to the trapper in Elizabeth and he started running to report me. I ended up killing him. Is he gonna show up again? Or is there multiple trappers?

So I'm in chapter 3 and I have a comic book for jack, but him and Abigail seem to have vanished into the ether.

Also the widow lady who changed her clothes mid mission who I made a drawing of in the journal seems to be completely gone too.

Fuck no. Whats revolutionary about it? Name one thing
It's not about any one thing. It's about the whole. If you sit there, and look at Watch Dogs 2, and compare and contrast with RDR2, and think "well, these games are basically the same!", then I don't know what to tell you.

But if I had to name one thing, it'd be the persistence of the world. Not a single game out there does it anywhere close to RDR2.

imho not 8 years, 100 hour crunches worth of content. Good length story but everything else is cut and paste.
Oh, I'm sorry. I seem to have gone and wasted my time on this conversation.

Some of the design choices around the controls honestly BAFFLE me...

Press X to run....

Either walk like a snail or run like Usain Bolt.

Aim your weapon? Press X again so that you may move in a decent pace while aiming...

Want to loot a cabin that has a lot of items close to each other? Keep doing 360 turns for a few secs like an idiot trying to place the character in the right spot.

I dont get it.

This is not realistic. This is plain stupid and annoying.

I dont want Arthur to be a ninja. I dont want him to react like Bayonetta. I just want him to control in a decent, functional way without being such a damn hassle of pressing buttons constantly.

The fact that almost no reviewer even mentioned this is unbelievable. Game lacks a lot in that department. And to think that just 2-3 minor adjustments could make this play soooooo much better...

Check poster Lewis' guide to control options for tweaks that feel like a huge difference.

I've been playing in first person mode most of the time and movement speed is much improved and I prefer the gunplay as well. Make sure to follow his 'guide' to control options first though, seriously, it majorly improves the handling in my opinion.

Biggest thing you'll want is change controls to "STANDARD FPS" which maps running to a click of L3 instead of that atrocity that is the X button.

In many ways it is...in many ways technical limitations still exist.

How exactly? Nicer lighting? Two samey interactions with npcs? Skinning and hunting for decaying pelts? Repeating stranger missions? Riding without fast travel? Insta popping lawmen?

The game is enjoyable no doubt but I dont think it took any leaps above and beyond whats out there. It just added extra long animations, removed useful form of fast travel (so we can all indulge in the detail porn) and made horse falls and hits extra painful.

I don't want to know the answer but I'm still in Chapter 2 and it's killing me that I don't have the lockpick, or whatever it is, you need to open the back of that bank coach whose driver I rescued near the river. I want to open this fucking thing already.

Most of these are just ridiculous nitpicks. You're really upset that you can't kick a fish back into the water? I mean, what?

Ok. Your first post was ridiculous and now you're leaning into it.

Someone was asking before, but you can see the camp's wealth in your journal, I just discovered. Separate to the camp funds i.e. the cut you earn from jobs etc.

Also just to repeat - can people be more sensitive with spoilers. Even saying what a certain character does in later chapters is a massive spoiler unless it is a character like Abigail who was in the previous game of course lol we know she makes it.

You're fucking trolling if you seriously think this game outside of the story is just cut and paste. Open your eyes.

Its not as blatantly cut and paste as say AC Odyssey but I already saw repeating stranger missions all around me, the stagecoach, train and store robberies and hunts are all the same, and I dont think dinosaur bones, treasure maps and cigarette card collections are worthy of any mention
