-configure the engine to support 100 player lobbies
-make the largest map in Halo history

I would assume they're already planning some crazy amount of versatility with the new SlipSpace Engine in regards to scalability with players and platform (i.e. the game looking significantly better on newer hardware with little additional work required for 343i).

Would they need a map larger than Forge World?

I think with the Halo sandbox at their disposal, it could possibly be one of the best BR modes out there. That being said, I'm buying the game either way.

They just fixed a lot of issues with the MCC. You should get your classic Halo fix there. 343 needs to do what they feel is right and what they have a passion for. Not be slavish to what Halo used to play like.
I'd rather they be slavish to how halo used to be and give us a sequel in the vein of how a slower arena shooter should play than be slavish to the gimmicks and modern controls they've chased from the call of duty crowd. Every fps plays like that now, itd be nice to get a sequel that evolved the game in an organic way that's faithful to the design philosophy of the first three games.

That's not a BR.

THIS is a BR

Yes, I know it's technically the same gun, just the H2 one looks significantly better imho haha

Nothing wrong with the classic BR :)

Halo 5 controls fantastically. It is the best, smoothest feeling and moving Halo game to date. No point in regressing. But I'm sure we can just agree to disagree on this. 343 will do what 343 will do and I'm sure Halo Infinite will be a fantastic game. The Engine trailer certainly shows what appears to be much more open environments and maps. Can't wait to find out more.

I'll settle for a campaign without a required reading list of assorted comics and books to make sense of what the story.

I wouldn't mind a Halo Battle Royale. I want them to focus on bringing back all the classic modes and some new ones first.

I think 343 already said that Halo Infinite will not include a BR mode but If they don't, Halo will suffer. Every big game these days now will come with a BR mode.

BR in the Halo universe would be amazing

Agreed. It looks like they are going to be able to handle HUGE maps with the new engine, which is just what Battle Royale games need.

It's the only mode my friends and I like playing. Everything else is a low Time-To-Kill brainless twitchfest for little kids in comparison.

Battle Royale for Halo. Get it done, Phil.

No, it fucking doesn't.

By the time Infinite comes out the Battle Royal genre will already have evolved from where it is today.

It could work thematically (have ODSTs drop in from above into a map below), but I don't think it's necessary, nor do I think Halo's style of gameplay would work well in the context of a Battle Royale, especially with Halo 5's new movement system.

Battle Royale would be a natural expansion of the Warzone mode and if done correctly it could be fantastic. The Halo universe lends its self amazingly well to the BR both in gameplay as well as concept.

Likely won't happen due to their previous comments and that's a shame since 100 ODSTs dropping onto a small planet with only one escape ship would be a damn good time.

I mean, I would certainly try a BR halo mode but I think 343 could do something more intersting. I think bucking the trends to provide a more classic Halo MP suite would be nice.

There are legitimate reasons to want a Battle Royale mode in Halo, such as the large scale environments and vehicles plus high level of player health fit the genre perfectly; however, simply saying they should have one just because everyone else does is not a valid reason.

Halo is absolutely perfect for a BR-style upgrade to the multiplayer, and an open-world upgrade in general.

The Silent Cartographer -- the most distilled Halo experience -- is already practically a mini-open world.

Now imagine the whole Halo ring as your map, and you choosing to ODST hot-drop in wherever you want to rescue stranded Marines while Covenant forces also invade. As you successfully evacuate Marines back to your heavily crippled UNSC capital ship in close orbit, you slowly upgrade and expand your capabilities, unlocking weapon pod deployments, Marine support, Warthog drops, Pelican extractions, etc.

As your capabilities expand, so do those of the Covenant forces invading the ring.

Add-in some kind of Shadow of Mordor-esque nemesis system for high ranking Covenant.

Add-in some kind of "live" mode where other players log in as either Covenant, or UNSC grunts, or other Spartan teams for PvPvE action, with Destiny-style public events.

Forget the stale linear story-levels and ancient TDM variants. Halo needs to evolve, and it can do so while staying true to what made it uniquely great in the first place; large-scale open ended combat against dynamic enemies in an incredible sandbox.

The hate for armor lock was so unfair, it was one of the best perks in any Halo game.

Hitting that lock when a Warthog is about to run you over was so much fun

now THAT'S a shitpost...

there's nothing worse than having a perfectly executed tactic thwarted by someone effortlessly deploying an OP , untelegraphed defense mechanism.

I'm still amazed that they relegated BTB to fan-made maps and went all in on Warzone. Warzone wasn't even that fun or well-balanced. I also hope the blowback against loot boxes results in 343 dropping REQ cards. Warzone, REQ cards, all of that was awful.

Give me real BTB and real Firefight. Whether its new character designs or new modes, the majority of 343's new stuff feels like discount versions of existing content. I really hope they up their game with Infinite.
The one-two punch of no BTB and REQ-based armour/cosmetic progression for Arena killed Halo 5's multiplayer for me, even though I did have some fun with the Arena modes. (By the time they added BTB, I was long gone, and the whole 'Forge maps only' thing put me off coming back to try it.)

Between that and the dull-to-actively-irritating campaign, Halo 5 is genuinely the only Halo I outright dislike.

I've got some hope for Infinite's campaign, but I just don't see them fixing the multiplayer. The REQ stuff is almost certainly here to stay, and BTB will always play second-fiddle to Warzone as long as there's money to be made from REQ packs. (I'm also one of those, 'sprint is bad/not every gun should have ADS' people, so... I mean, honestly, I kinda get the feeling Halo multiplayer just isn't for me anymore, which is fine, but also a bummer. I just hope Infinite's campaign represents a return to form.)

As for BR, since I just realised I haven't talked about it at all... Like, I guess it'd be fine, but it's a mode I almost certainly wouldn't play. Neither PUBG nor Fortnite have ever done anything for me.)

How about just a warzone game mode in a super giant open map filled with vehicles and lots of AI fodder instead.

Throw in Killzones dynamic gamemodes too. On the fly it switches to King of the Hill then to CTF to suddenly a straight up death match.

A straight up Battle Royale mode will be way too vanilla and bland by the time this game comes out.

Goldeneye better have a Battle Royale mode or Nintendo can kiss their business goodbye.
