Gotta say, the sheer amount of people that are more mad about one dude saying "men are trash" than a dude making multiple videos killing an "annoying feminist" really highlights why I don't want to be called a gamer.

Y'all more concerned about preserving the dignity of men than calling out a dude who made some fucked up content pandering to the alt-right.

Fair point. I clicked on the thread because the title was interesting. I read the OP and then suddenly I see the usual ERA crowd one liners: "men are trash", "gamers are a mistake", etc. Instead of focussing on the moron making offensive videos and YouTubes rightful decision to ban them, lots of users, including myself, focused on the needless inflammatory shitposts.

To be clear, the youtuber is wrong and an embarrassing human being. YouTube was right to shut him down. But posting "men are trash" and "gamers are a mistake" just distract from the actual problem and topic being discussed and add absolutely nothing of value to the thread. These type of posts do nothing but derail thread after thread related to these issues but they are a constant presence. It would be nice if these posts were warned just as other derailing shitposts are.

Why are you even allowed to kill them in this game? Wtf is wrong with you Rockstar? Even in-game violence against Women is unacceptable.

This isn't on R*.

The player has spun this into something a base that dislikes women can actively engage in. Even if you did decide to kill them in your own play through, that is just you acting out on shit you wouldn't do in the real world or whatever. But to make a bunch of videos titles like this:

XdQR74a.png

This ain't just killing a video game character. No need to make excuses for boys.

You have to understand, men are the true victims here. We have a nice thread in ectera about harassing women where a bunch of men reached the same conclusion.

Glad this dude got banned.

I'm quite sure this was one of the assholes who would constantly spoil videogames with YT thumbnails.

Right after I finished God of War, I marked a lot of his videos as "doesn't interest me" and I even "blocked" his channel in an attempt to prevent the YT algorithm from recommending his videos to me.

Glad he got his account terminated.

Why wouldn't you? The game has very few restrictions on who you can kill, kidnap or rob, you will be discouraged by high bounties and the honor system, but if you want you can do a lot to innocent NPCs.

If anything, RDR2 surprised me with how they handled racism and other topics.
Kill a racist on the street and get your honour up, no problem. For example.
I loved that.

I haven't seen anything about killing racist on the street, I did fuck up the KKK however. You do not get honor for it, your honor just doesn't drop. I think they handled it well there.

Yeah, them too.
Might've overstated the honour bit, as mine was already high. I'd have been disappointed if it lowered it though.
Glad it didn't.
The racist guy is somewhere in Saint Denis, chatting about White genocide. He kind of looks like Hitler.
You could kill the guy and the police won't do shit, lol.

this type of phenomena isn't new - and its pandemic to gamer culture. i'd be less concerned with this one particular instance and look at what's pervading the culture to let such ideas fester

No one cares when you criticize a dominant group in power for the shitty things they do and say. Because it hurts no one.

Are my feelings supposed to be hurt because a guy said men are trash. Okay, gonna keep enjoying my male privileges and continue being part of the dominant group on this site with the loudest voice.

Yeah, male fragility in full effect. Driver was right in saying the post is kind of over the top and does feel like there's a hint of self loathing in there. But it kind of goes without saying that not all men are terrible. It's the same thing with answering Black Lives Matter with All Lives Matter (Black people are not saying other lives do not matter or are less important), it kind of misses the point and jumps to the DO NOT GENERALIZE argument. Which should be an unspoken rule in most cases.

I'd wager that more people still are upset about the videos rather than the post, so no need to group every user together.

And some people are mad because it's a bit weird that in this supposedly open and inclusive community you can just throw a sizebale chunk of the world to one bag and call them all trash. Personally I don't give a shit but it's easy to see why somebody would be irked by this.
Since the post was made, on Page 3 or 4, less people have discussed the actions of YT and the dude and spent more time pushing back on the hyperbolic accusations of "sexism". It's derailed the thread, and I expect this thread'll be closed in a page or two.

But, to your second point, the "men" in this context doesn't refer to men as a whole. Even a child can understand that. The "men" in this case clearly refer to the predominantly male members of the gaming community who not only make content like this but reward people who do. If you can't see the difference, you're either being intentionally obtuse about the context or you genuinely don't understand the context in which this is placed. Most times, it's the first, because this argument has played out time and time again here. Male who plays games does something bad -> People rush into defend him -> Some angry user says something hyperbolic about men or gamers -> People rush into call out the gamer for sexism or "#NotAllGamers." When the issue is someone adding fuel to the alt-right overtones of gaming or saying a homophobic slur or saying racial slurs, why is your primary issue someone's angry statement about the community this is in? Why are you running damage control for something that really doesn't need it?

Why do you guys love to generalize so much. It's nasty.

And a lot of self hatred going on in these forums.

I can only speak for myself but it might be because things like the videos this thread about are just one of many many many examples of gaming being an oftentimes hostile and terrifying community for many of us

Sorry I can't get into a lobby on any game I want to play and not see at least one vocal trumper with the username xxxGasthejuicexxx

"Bbbut just ignore them." Fuck that, it should be banned not ignored. Go the r6 route and purge these depraved fucks.

Can't even make friends on games anymore because like 2/3ds of the people you meet are bigots

I think articles like this do a disservice to the feminist movement. Let's face it, the game is open ended you CAN be a woman bashing faciast. You also can bow to kill every man in sight and only men. In either case, you will be a murdering sociopath. By highlighting what a single type of asshole gamer might do with their freedom, they have provided them with an even larger platform to spread their hate.

He should get his channel back.
Youtube 'drawing lines in the sand' at a moments notice is unprofessional.

Although, I just think it was an influx of flaggers that made Youtube's algorithm shut his channel down.

Youtube, update your "rule book'.
If you have an issue with violence against women, feminist, etc in VIDEO GAMES, state that.

What I should not see, is this kid's channel getting taken down, but yet you have an endless video catalog of women getting beaten & killed in GTA.

- Give this kid his channel back.
- Then on your end, decide where your morality stands when it comes to uploading certain things in video games.

It's not rocket science.

I did chuckle at the video, but it didn't have anything to do with the gender of character being slugged. I was mostly impressed at the animations, from the shove, to the punch right to the jaw.

I remember accidentally assassinating one of the crazy leper guys in the first Assassin's Creed and feeling a little bad. I always tried to just avoid them.

But fuck the minstrels. I beat them up without even the slightest remorse. lol

Sick of how these assholes wish to display their love for violence against women. This hobby has gotten way too despicable for me. Between misogynists, right wingers trying to recruit, and shit like gamergate and swatting etc, I'd just rather go back to retro gaming and avoid most interactions like multiplayer.

P.s. Fuck sexist pigs Nazis.

These bits from the article are important:

While the author states he has not finished the game yet, the overall commentary is less about the game enabling violence against women (which in a game about freedom to make choices) and more about "Gaming" culture exploiting the design by being publicly violent towards a subset of NPCs and then tying their actions to sexist and/or misogynistic messages to get more YT traffic, thereby perpetuating the sense revulsion against the idea of feminism, political correctness and women in gaming and in general.

I am glad that Shirrako's account got banned.

Except that's false. The game is very black and white with how it presents social issues. It's very much about condemning hateful people, whether they're racist or sexist. In the mission the author is talking about there
the leader of the particular suffrage movement has a speech where she talks about equal rights were what our founding fathers want. And then you have these obnoxious asshole guy walk in and say "YEAAH...FOUNDING FATHERS, NOT FOUNDING MOTHERS!!". Did the author think that was meant to be taken as a positive? And while they're riding through town and being harassed by people, the leader comments to Arthur something along the lines, "I give you, the male species", to which Arthur replies, "It was a dumb one. I give you that". There are other examples as well.
I really don't know how you can play the game and think Rockstar was trying to present women's suffrage in a neutral manner. It's absolutely painted as being a terrible thing and those against it are portrayed as being ignorant.

It's kind of funny that the game lets you do that, so I can see posting one video about it.

Continuing to post multiple videos along the same theme is where it goes from a little suspect to borderline psychotic.

He shouldn't. And Youtube isn't drawing any line. From their ToS

Our products are platforms for free expression. But we don't support content that promotes or condones violence against individuals or groups based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, nationality, veteran status, or sexual orientation/gender identity, or whose primary purpose is inciting hatred on the basis of these core characteristics.

He got rightfully banned following their ToS and it should stay the same.

For such a small group your think I wouldn't see them in every multiplayer game I play, they're not the minority, they're the norm

...because you are playing on western servers, there are more people in here Asia than all of you combined, and we rarely use sexism or racism slurrs. RARELY. You got nasty people here too but they use insults that's not related to your gender or race.

The thing is, to dismiss these as shitposts is disingenuous. These are statements of anger from groups that are routinely targeted by a sizeable portion of gamers. This isn't the same as someone posting "Fuck Blizzard and their anti-consumer bullshit" in a D:I thread. One is an angry comment coming from someone belonging to a group that get harassed, doxxed, and just tortured by the internet, and the other is coming from a gamer that is facing, at best, mild inconvenience by having a game they can't play. There's a massive gulf between the two. What really happens to men as a result of the off-hand comment? A hurt feeling? A sense of anger that'll fade away in an hour at most? It hurts being targeted and misgeneralized as something hurting the hobby you love, right?

Now imagine that feeling, but its amplified by a thousand and its constant. That's how I imagine the average female gamer feels on the internet. Speak up at how you think its nonsense that a courageous hero is wearing a chainmail bikini and high heels? Hate. Speak up about how you find Japan's fetishization of minors off-putting? Hate. Imagine being called an SJW and an immense amount of slurs, all because something made you feel hurt and a bit angry and you spoke up against it. That's what these folks are feeling now, and that's what women and minorities feel on a near constant basis just for liking games and wanting to be better.

Gamers are garbage, men are trash, and the internet was a mistake. So sad that something which has given me so much joy throughout my life has developed a culture around it filled with disgusting garbage people that I would never want to associate with. I wish I had a different hobby.

Maybe, it's more of a fact that it's a popular medium? That requires you to be social with others? I don't think its inherently people that play games hate women and minorities. But more that if you give a voice and anonymity to a large swath of people, there are people that will use it to try and upset you, unfortunately that stuff is the easiest way to upset and effect someone through the internet.

Go on any non-game related Chat room or discussion and it's equally as nuts. I mean in general I avoid Off-Topic sections of forums because they tend to be the MOST toxic and aggressive.

Where does the TOS say that though? Sounds like you tubers have to start walking on eggshells to keep their channels intact
Somehow I feel like there's a world of difference between "walking on eggshells" and "not creating a series of virtual snuff porn videos while bragging about how you triggered the sjws and now are gonna RP as hitler."

Nice ad hominem. I'm probably the only one that actually read the article, and googled the offending video(its going viral now, good job Streisand effect).
Ask Alex Jones how that worked out for him.
