Attorney General Jeff Sessions Resigns at President Trump's Request

I can't help but think this is a really DUMB idea by Trump. ESPECIALLY right now.
This is something Trump should have done in late 2017. Strategically speaking.
Doing this now, right after losing the House, the day AFTER the election, is so fucking blatant and obvious that I can't wrap my head around how he can spin this other than a desperate act to end the Russia Investigation before it leads to either his impeachment, indictments for his family, or both.
It is textbook obstruction and it's not even subtle.

The fact that it is technically a resignation and not a firing is what allows Trump to name the replacement. So it is an important distinction.

Also I doubt they fire Mueller -- the optics are too bad. They will likely be a gigantic pain in the ass and deny funding and such.
This has certainly being plan for awhile he most likely assume he will have both the house and the senate.
