So what's the online stuff in this? daily quests? Probably getting this eventually and just wondering how the online functions.

Just killed the Lizard, and man that was a cool chain of quests. The fight with the giant snake was fun. I hope there's more stuff like this, but I also hope the modern story actually moves forward soon enough.

Yeah, there are daily quests you can do that give you a random weapon or outfit. There's also some sort of system that tracks where and how players die, and lets you "avenge" them by killing their killers to get XP.

That's gotta be one of the best OT's I've ever seen theme wise. Bravo.

I haven't played an AC properly since Brotherhood. Not had chance to read impressions yet but I hope the game holds up past the honeymoon period. I want to pick this up near Christmas.

I'm picking this up for Xbox, have an X coming but want to play it right away. Is the performance on a base Xbox One really bad?

I also have a PS4 Pro and was considering that instead but I'll probably regret it after the X comes out so I'll go Xbox for this.

Played about 5 hours now.

Hands down my favorite AC game. The world building is unprecedented, the graphics stunning.

They finally fixed movement. My biggest gripe in AC games was running and constantly grabbing onto traversal primitives. It was like trying to run down a hallway coated in crazy glue. I don't think I've had a single instance of grabbing something I didn't want to.

Removal of sprint also works very well. Why do we need to hold a button or trigger to run in anything really. If you want to walk, just push less on the stick.

Combat is pretty fun, which is saying a lot because it was never fun in any previous installment. I feel like I'm in control, and it feels like you are actually playing the game instead of just tapping buttons and hoping you tapped at the right time.

Finally, it has the best stealth in the series as well. You can finally escape hairy situations, hide, then re-engage pretty reliably. You no longer need to find a trash can to hide in to not suffer an overwhelming mob of angry guards chopping you up.

It's really good. Not only the best AC game to date, but a damn fine game in it's own right.

I just really wish it had an encyclopedia like all the previous games.

Wow this review has me all excited! Thanks

I've only played a few hours before work but man, the game is gorgeous. The combat feels different enough to me, but it has clearly taken cues from Witcher 3 and also Destiny in terms of UI. Great stuff so far and I'm excited to play more after work. Disclaimer: I really enjoy the AC games generally, though 3 is still one of my top worst games EVER.

I played a little tonight and I'm digging it so far. Only gripe is that it seems to be terribly optimized on the PS4 Pro. I'm getting some glaring fps dips here and there, still, I'm looking forward to playing more.

Oddly enough, I've noticed very few dips - one noticeable one in the first cutscene - but I've had two crashes. The first one happened when I was trying to show my husband just how huge the map was. The second time I was running around the desert and the cool effect that I thought was some sort of super mirage was actually the game crashing.

This is easily the most brutal of the series as well. But then, it fits considering what happens in the story.

My game crashed at the map as well.

Anybody experiencing crashing on the PS4 Pro?

Had the game crash on me twice in the span of an hour. Thankfully I've just been exploring and auto-save is pretty quick at picking up my progress, but it was annoying as hell.

The intro up until the actual inciting incident is awful. I have no idea why they decided to start it in media res like that instead of just starting with the whole scene that plays after the first target assassination. It doesn't help that the intro starts off with 1. a terribly compressed video file 2. a major scene and fight with no context and 3. a bunch of really ugly, jarring pop-in and stuff that so far hasn't appeared again since. It feels like all that stuff was slapped together at the last minute or something. It looks sloppy in a way the rest of the game hasn't so far.

Once I got over that hump, I started to really enjoy it. Bayek is an awesome character and the game is a lot of fun to play. The soundtrack is already up there with my favorites as well, the new composer is great. My favorite thing to do in AC games is just explore and soak in the time period, and this feels like it's going to be pretty special for that.

Yeah I'm not sure what they were thinking with the intro. The scenes you mention would have been a far better starting point.

Are the day 1 and deluxe dlc can be used at the start of the game? Or where to get it?

So I've seen that some of the movies story is referenced in this? I'm never going to watch it is there anything important to know?

I've only had time to play 30-45 minutes of the game so far and I have no clue whats going on or why I'm doing anything. Please tell me the game gives me context and motivation soon.

No crashes for me in 5.5 hours so far. On the pro.
And yeah, why are some cutscenes low res videos? And why was that opening cutscene in such a weird resolution?

Can't for the life of me find any motivation to have the hood up.

Bayek looks too fucking good with his hair/beard out.

I'm pretty excited to get into this game on my weekend coming up. Been playing Mario in my free time tonight, but I've set aside about 8 hours on Tuesday to dig into this one. Sounds like people are enjoying it with a few bugs aside.

I miss being able to jump rooftop to rooftop like in 2 and Syndicate, but the combat in this is really good. Sadly, my game keeps crashing whenever I fast travel so I can't do that, but at least it lets me see more of the world

I had one crash in 6 hours. It happened one time when I activated my eagle.

It's better than I would have expected. I really like the setting.

It's quite hard though. Perhaps I just need some practice.

Loving this game so far. I learned the hard way about screwing around in areas higher level than you. 20 minutes of getting destroyed by guys 2 levels higher than me at the very beginning. Work is crazy busy right now so only got a couple hours out in but they have been a blast (even the getting destroyed part)

Really enjoy the setting and I haven't played AC since unity so this is feeling pretty great to me so far.

So should I dismantle everything or sell it? Still not sure what that does.

The uPlay items were really powerful at first being lower level.

I have a question:

I found a stone tablet in the cave, and it popped up a tutorial hint about it, but it flashed by so fast I couldn't read it. Anyone know what that said?

Not sure about Uplay items, but you can pay Blacksmiths to upgrade your items to your current level. So things with notable stats might be worth holding onto, especially if it's a weapon type you like to play with. I dismantle most blues but hold onto purples in case I get some bad RNG and don't get items types I want.

Played a couple hours today. Really enjoying what I'm seeing so far. I'm getting some serious Witcher vibes roaming the open world. Also, I had to change to the alternate control scheme. Feels WAY more natural.

Beautiful looking game! Finally made it outside proper and it truly is a sight to behold. On Pro. Some performance drops now and again but talking a frame or two. But yeah, excellent thus far...

As soon as I got the armor from the ceremony really early on in the game, I haven't taken it off, nice that you can hide the hood too. I haven't played much, but I did a quest for that merchant kid, and I got a cursed sword, it does so much damage that I don't want to get rid of it, but sometimes even jumping off a high enough ledge almost kills me XD. I'm on Hard Mode and cursed takes it to another level lol.

At work so apologies if I get something wrong but (on PS4) it makes light attack the Square, heavy attack Triangle, dodge is Circle. The bow is L2 to aim and R2 to fire. Climbing/Parkour is R2 when running. R1 is climb down/stealth.

It's not perfect but I think I'm going to switch to this, the current scheme is offputting for me.

Hopefully I'll have my copy tomorrow, very excited for this!

Since people are talking about the opening I went back and reviewed the openings of the other AC games. The best ones are found in AC2, ACB, and AC4 - they do a great job of getting you right into both the action and the story. AC1 and ACRe do a great job too but are a bit slower-paced (I did notice, for the first time in six years, a very cool, deliberate, and direct mirroring between Ezio's intro at the start ACRe, and at the end of his last scene of the game). The rest are a mixed bag as they take a while to get acclimated with the gameplay systems, though I did like the AC3 intro and what it turns into.

As for the series direction over the years, I miss the tombs, the glyphs and their puzzles, and "My name is Desmond Miles". But I'm still a sucker for AC games, here are a few rankings:

Best Opening Gameplay - AC4, runner-up AC1
Best Eagle Vision - ACO and I haven't even played it yet
Best Modern Day - ACB, runner-up AC4
Best Opening Soliloquy - Desmond AC2, William AC3
Best Closing Soliloquy - Ezio ACRe, runner-up Arno ACU
Best Assassinations - ACRe (Tarik), AC1 (Robert de Sable), ACS (Lucy Thorne), ACRo (the last one)
Best Naval, Assassin Skills, and Frontier - ACRo

Let's see how ACO does!
