Congrats. Mine comes Sunday. I thought the HDMI cable that comes with the pro already 4k hdr10 4:4:4 ready?

I assume so but I just wanted a matching white one for it.

Dang congrats Lik -- at long last it arrives. Just FYI, some panels have black crush the first 4 hours. Just make sure it get's turned off after 4 hours of usage, and TV will run a clear panel that will correct the issue (takes 15-30 mins). Happened to both my 2017 sets.

Ok, so watch something for 4 hours and then turn it off for 15-30 min? Should be fine afterwards?

Any Sony X900E owner here who can tell me if it's doable to quickly change between 2 specific calibrations. I have 1 for gaming and one for Movies and Television but having to press Action Menu -> Display settings-> Correct caliration ->Back ->Back ->Back.... is there a quick button to quickly go from one setting to the other Maybe some button mapping??

I know my lazyness is terribad but if there is a way to improve my QoL, why not ask?
I just calibrated for gaming and left it like that. I'm pretty happy with things the way they are, even if the blacks aren't as deep.

Check your gpu control panel, are you at 120hz? The 900e applies really crude scaling at 120hz.
Nope, 60Hz @ all resolutions. It's not scaling 1080p to 4K in PC games like it does for consoles, and I think that's the main reason the image quality isn't as nice. I can't seem to get the TV to scale 1080p up to 4K in the same manner through my PC; it can be done by enabling GPU scaling only scaling via GPU or Display produces the same result. Even with AA on max, things look a little off. It's not too dissimilar to using non-native resolutions on most PC monitors, although it's definitely not quite as bad.

It could very well be that this is just how 1080p looks for PC games. I might just get a GTX 1080Ti when I replace my aging CPU + mobo and game in glorious 4K.

Update: I tried selecting fullscreen display scaling in nVidia control panel and then selecting windowed fullscreen in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided at 1080p. No diff. Exclusive Fullscreen switches to 1080p output, and it looks the same as windowed.

Conclusion: This is simply how things are supposed to look. IQ at 4K is obviously going to be superior, and losing half the pixels is going to produce a less crisp image. I don't know what I expected.

So I just got my X900E, I was wondering if anyone else was experiencing clouding on black screens with this set? This is my first major TV purchase so I want to make sure it's working right. When in a non-lit room, the black screens (eg. logo screens) have a lot of clouding/flashlighting effects. When the room is lit I don't see this at all. I uploaded a picture, excuse the poor quality. The picture itself makes it seem worse than it is but it's not far off.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Mine isn't perfect, either. Perhaps not as bad as that, but I've seen a similar effect. I believe this is pretty common with these sorts of panels, and it's a bit of a lottery to get a perfect unit. It doesn't bother me at all as I don't notice it all in gameplay, or while watching TV / movies.

I've decided to pick up the 55' Sony X930E next week, but knowing me, I'm still going to be debating my decision lol. Does bias lighting really make the contrast and the blacks look better?

Yes, it helps...it's actually quite nice to be honest. To me it seems to help with the overall viewing experience. I got a set and stuck it to my x930e, looks dope and helps with blooming. I'd recommend it to anyone.

How is the HDR gaming mode on the X930E? For anyone that owns one.

Does it keep the brightness?

Yeah, brightness does not change and if it does you aren't going to notice since the TV can sustain high brightness. Remember this TV peaks at 1500 nits while still maintaining great contrast. Make sure to have the local dimming turned on for all ports.

HDR gaming on this set is pretty amazing imho, vivid, bright, smooth. You can actually turn off her to see the difference.

Always use local dimming, it should hide the imperfections in your panel. Local dimming needs to be enabled per port from my understanding.

I want to make something clear. The B7 has real 120hz/1080p? Not some motion smoothing thing? I haven't kept up with TV stuff up until very recently and as someone with a PC in the living room, I am very interested in the B7. The last time I got a TV there was no such thing as real 120hz TVs. Is this standard with a lot of the new sets besides the B7 or have I always been clueless?

Tip to folks with Android OS:

Make sure to go into the app settings and disable the SonyShelf process and also disable the samba manager process. If disable is not an option, turn off notifications I believe.

Disabling the SonyShelf (I think) will get rid of row of suggested apps and leave you with a cleaner UI. Disabling samba will stop bothering you about using it and stop it from hogging performance.

Thanks for the local dimming tips everyone, has changed it dramatically with no noticeable lag or decrease in quality.

Also, with the Android TV apps on this set, they can't play HDR is that right? If I wanted to use Netflix and Youtube for HDR I am better off using my PS4 Pro?

Pics or it didn't happen. Also, how do I perform the test? :)
Followed the advice from a post in this thread, 15 pages back or so. So first off, the test is assuming you just unboxed the set, so if you've had it for awhile, you can skip the first part. But basically you run the TV for about 4 hours—the type of content doesn't matter—and once that's done, you shut it off for about 15 minutes, which lets the TV run its first compensation cycle. After that's done, turn the TV back on and load upthis videowhich will expose any panel uniformity flaws.

Hope this helps!

And I'll see what I can do about those pics; I'm away from home right now, but I'll edit this post with a picture later. ;)

EDIT: Here's the pic I promised! It actually looks less uniform to my camera in a dark room than it does to my eyes, but I'd still say I got very lucky with the uniformity. There's really only one vertical band and it's almost imperceptible to my eye. (that blue spot is my PS4 controller lol)

I'm on the latest firmware (LG website download) and the colors in PC HDR are still wrong. B7 and C7 btw. It's easy to see in reds/orange.

Only have horizon to go off but before the colours in reds especially pc standard HDR vs game console standard HDR looked seriously different. Eye test only but it looks near identical to me.

Just saying from own experience

Hey guys, quick question: my AV receiver supports 4k and HDMI 2.0. It makes no mention of HDR. Is this enough to support HDR or am I going to have to route my PS4 Pro directly to my TV? I'm assuming it will as I'm yet again assuming the receiver basically just deals with the audio and passes the video data to the TV to be processed.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, if more information on the receiver would help let me know. Thank you!

It's here! Haven't opened it yet because I was busy helping my dad install the 60" Vizio I gave to him. He's pleased to have a bigger size TV. I have some newer HDMI cables arriving from Monoprice on Thursday which I plan on using with my new PS4 Pro. Got a white cable to match it. So I'll wait on actually installing it. It'll also give me time to clear out my entertainment room of some junk so I can have an easier time unboxing and setting it up. Hopefully the panel is flawless.

I'm excited for you man!

Question for those running media/gaming PCs on TVs.

If given the option of 4k 60Hz or 1080p 120Hz which do you chose? Recently picked up a Sony x930e and trying to decide how to set it up.

So I've been happy with my LG B7 but I have noticed that the display gets extremely dim if there is something bright on the screen. I played a lot of Mario Odyssey today and I noticed that the screen brightness was changing constantly although I turned Dynamic Contrast off. Now I read that this is some kind of built-in mechanism implemented by LG that can be turned off via Service Menu apps, but I'm not sure if I wanna do that. Has anyone turned this off or should I leave it like it is?

i dont play competitive gaming-but 4k60 every time. I notice a MASSIVE difference between 30->60fps. The difference between 60->120fps to me is minor. I notice it a lot more moving the mouse cursor than i do in a game.

It's only become a feature in a very few number of sets over the last couple years. It is indeed true 120hz at 1080 on the b7. It even shows up in nvidia control panel, no need to even make a custom resolution. I keep my PC in 1080p all the time now, 4k looks sharper, but man the mouse just feels so much smoother at 120hz.

Wow, Local Dimming made a big difference. Am I sacrificing anything in my HDR picture by turning that on? And would you suggest low, medium, or high?

Up to you. Most recommended settings I've come across for the X930E suggest medium, but again it's what you find best. I suggest playing with it - and the rest of the settings - with a variety of content. Personally, clouding bothers me so right now I'm running it at high, but I find it can suppress dark details a bit, at least with SDR content. Medium is probably your best bet.

I have the same question now looking back. I was following the pictures for setting guidelines but apparently missed the part where they said "these should be turned on." So I should always have Xtended Range on for even non-HDR content?

Same as above, but I do recommend it. I find high is often too extreme, and endows the image with too much contrast.

How is the HDR gaming mode on the X930E? For anyone that owns one.

Does it keep the brightness?

Rtings should have hard data on this, but I haven't once noticed any issues with sustaining brightness. The TV is bright as hell, and is just about the best you can do with what's available on the market. With respect to HDR gaming in general, this set absolutely sings.

I own the 65" variant - if you have any other questions, I'm happy to offer my impressions.

If I turn off HDR in the PS4 menu can I still play games in HDR?

I'm still trying to figure why things won't display correctly on my x900e.

Pro

My 900E either displays and oversaturated image or a dull one.
I have the 900E and a Pro. I am using the default settings. Everything looks perfect and as expected.

On your PS4 input, change picture mode to "game", go down to advanced settings, then select "reset" and reset the video settings. On the PS4 itself, have all video options set to "auto".

If none of this works, maybe your HDMI cable is at fault. Are you using a receiver? Are you using the HDMI cable included with the Pro?

I'm assuming it will as I'm yet again assuming the receiver basically just deals with the audio and passes the video data to the TV to be processed.

It will not support HDR. Products which do support HDR will proudly proclaim it and also state HDMI 2.0a support. Even though your receiver is just passing through the signal, HDR is metadata that doesn't get passed unless the hardware and software specifically passes it. Sorry, friend.

Note that if you connect the PS4 directly to the TV, you will need to change the PS4 audio to "bitstream" Dolby Digital if you want surround sound sent to your receiver (assuming you are using ARC from the TV). This limits you to five channels and is not ideal.

I was in the same situation as you. I ended up buying a new receiver.

If you turn off HDR, HDR is turned off. lol

What's wrong with your display? Maybe I can help.

Funny thing is when I turn off HDR in the PS4 menu the colors seem to pop more; albeit a little saturated.
The problem with my display is everytime I load a game it turns off the HDR effect (although it's still enabled in the PS4 menu).
If I go to the PS4 settings mid-game and turn off auto HDR things look as they should.

I'm starting to think it's the HDMI cable. I'm using the default PS4 Pro HDMI.
I'm not using any passthroughs, directly to the TV.

So I'm hoping someone can help me out. I've been testing my TCl p605 and noticed this weird spotch while playing Bound on the PS4.

I'm not sure if it's a filter or what, but there's several of them on the screen, and they never move. I've only.noticed it on this game so far though.

Can anyone else with another set test and see if they notice it? Bound is free on PS+ right now, so it's an extra incentive to download it ;)

Do you have power saver on? That might be the issue dimming your screen. Turn it off. I don't have any issue with Mario Galaxy. Remember you can change your input icon to pc for SDR content like Mario and can use any picture mode with 21 Ms input lag on 2017 LG oled. I play my SDR games in Technicolor picture mode with pc input enabled.

Load up YouTube on your TV and search for a red screen video. Then see if the splotches show up on there as well.

Easily the most annoying thing about modern TV's is how much you have to mess with the settings across different picture modes to get something you're happy with. Worth the trouble, but definitely a hassle.

I got an OLED this year and it rly is dope. True blacks are so cool in the few movies/games that include them as a part of their color spectrum.
Eh? Proper calibration isn't something that just came came about on newer TVs. It's been something you had to do for decades.

I picked up a PS4 Pro this Black Friday to pair with my Sony X900e. When the Pro first arrived I set it up in HDR with (surprisingly) no hitches and jumped straight into Horizon. Gorgeous game.

Flash forward to today, I sit down with some coffee while watching some podcasts on youtube through my TV. After, I decide to jump into Horizon and turn my PS4 Pro on. Horizon loads up out of rest mode, and the screen starts to flicker to black. Then the screen goes to TV snow. I'm flabbergasted. I unplug the HDMi cable and plug it back in. Still snow. I then restart my PS4 Pro. No image whatsoever. At this point I'm worried my Pro is broken, so I switch the HDMI to input 1 (not HDR compatible). It works, but without HDR.

To make a long story short from there, I end up troubleshooting for 15 or so minutes, implementing suggestions found through google. I eventually "fix" the problem by completely restarting the TV with the pro connected to HDMI 3 (HDR enabled) and changing the PS4 pro RGB settings from auto to full. Honestly I'm not sure what the problem was or what actually fixed it. Was it the rebooting of the TV, or the automatic RGB setting on the PRO?

High. You absolutely need local dimming to view an HDR image , otherwise scenarios when he screen needs bright areas will give you greyed blacks.

I give up on HDR. This should be some plug and play business, but it's impossible.

Samsung MU6100. Uncharted 4 on PS4. Hitman on PC. Many different cables. Looked up a few calibration guides.

Whenever it's enabled, whites become grey. Everything's too dark. Uncharted is too dark. Hitman will do random stuff, including being too dark, colours being washed out, audio dropping, display flickering every few seconds and not being able to alt tab out of it.

When I enable HDR on Windows 10, it's too dark as well. The NVIDIA thing won't let me choose high dynamic range and 10 bit colour.

I regret buying this TV. It's wasted too much of my time.

I'm confused. HDR isn't active by default. What do you mean by it turning off when you load a game?

It's on by default. I can tell it's on while browsing the PS4 settings, games etc... Everything looks vibrant. The moment I load a game it's like the brightness goes away. The picture looks washed out, the once vibrant PS4 home screen looks dull.. Accessing the settings>>display and turning off HDR brings back the color, and everything pops again. It looks as strange as it sounds.

I'll grab a video when I can. I'll also try resetting the picture on the TV.
I'm leaning towards a bad handshake.. When exiting a game the screen flickers and goes black like it's changing resolution or something.

I think the prevalence of different modes has increased though, right? Like I have different settings for game mode w/HDR on and off, movies, etc.

Well sure because there's another variable. Before though you still had to do different inputs and game mode on or off. Now you add HDR into that mix.

It's to stop image burn in. It shouldn't happen that often. I would hazard a guess your preferences have OLED brightness too high.
The solution is to turn this down, remember that OLED's strength is how dark it can go and not how bright it can go.

Are you sure this isn't the "motion eye Care" in picture settings? It adjusts brightness based on content

My LG B7A came into today as well. Wow they do not play around with the stand. It's as heavy as the TV. I originally planned to wall mount it where my KS8000 was. But I decided to sacrifice the space to have a better area for VR.

The place the TV is in now isn't pretty, but the TV is!

When I move I'll make it the centerpiece it deserves to be. I have a great stylish entertainment system already... Which I also had to stow away for now :(, for when I do too.
