Have my new Sony Xperia XZ1 compact since 5 days and it's a beast of a smartphone. I love it. Battery is amazing, snappy and fast (like faster than my S8 test device), amazing built quality, durable, does not feel cheap.

Yeess this is what I like to hear, I got one during a Black Friday sale, but it's a christmas present so I gotta wait before I can actually start using it. Have you noticed what the headphone audio quality's like? I'm quite interested to know whether the audio enhancement stuff they tout all the time is actually noticeable in day to day usage.

Seems the Pixel Visual Core is already working wonders for 3rd party apps by default:

https://www.tomsguide.com/us/android-81-update-pixel-visual-core,news-26185.html

Key quotes:

"Before snapping any photos, I honestly didn't expect to notice any difference yet; I thought developers would first have to turn on support for the chip, or upgrade their apps to a newer API before we'd witness any results. Instead, I was surprised and pleased to find Google's purpose-built photo processor was already working wonders in Instagram."

"the Visual Core heavily cuts down on all the grain in the shadows and the black name tag, making for a universally smoother, more realistic shot."

"The transformation is striking. When you're looking through the viewfinder of a third-party app, you'll see a grainy mess. But press the shutter button, and for a split-second you can actually watch Google's post-processing being applied, lifting the entirety of the frame."

returning the 1 month old pixel2 . Really noticeable retention at the bottom even using nav bar app. Good times.

the replacement one's screen is still crap, but the ram management seems a bit better. 4gb ram + oreo tweaks. yeesh. Seems like my op5t won't be here until monday.

Wow you should sell it while you can still get a decent amount for it.

After being on 8.1 dp2 for a day battery life is much improved over 8.1

hmmm ill still probably keep the pixel 2 xl. The camera is literally the only reason i got it. Wish it charged quicker but everything else I can live with. OP5t will be my backup/maybe daily driver, who knows lol.

Need to do some comparisons between the 2. I dont' remember the google camera apk being that impressive on the op5 though.

Yeah if camera is what you want pixel 2 xl is the best out. OnePlus 5T is a good camera and it will be getting improvements in December, but it's not on the same level especially if you like shooting dark scenes. Of course you could buy a 5T and a DSLR for the same price as a 2xl lol

yeah, but there is something about a smartphone's portability that a full size camera just can't beat.

Like I'm fine with my op5 camera. Was my camera during my asia trip in september. Feel like 7 out of 10 photos I'm pleased with, while a pixel or iphone might be 8 or 9 out of 10.

Yeah most cameras are the same for me in daylight mostly. Pixel is the only phone I've used that seems to get good low light performance. That's where most phones struggle.

Hey all. I recently got a Moto G5S+ and have been having a couple problems.

Whenever I'm sent a gif, I receive it as a jpg. Tried with the native app, as well as Textra. Same result.

Also, whenever I receive a screenshot. It comes in very low quality.

Not sure of this any kind of known issue. I made a post on Motorola's forum and received a response from their support team, but they went silent after I got back to them. Also did a support chat and got as far as them telling me to request a replacement.

Have you contacted your carrier about it? Issues with MMS are usually on them. You might need to bring it into one of their stores.

Settling in to the 5t. What an upgrade from the G Pro. Bunch of little things that we assumed were just part of Android, but were LG tweaks. Well take some time.
What kind of things? Android is pretty customizable and I can't think of anything LG has or does that isn't in OxygenOS

From 'quake area to big OH.
Led color for text or calls per person was one. Notification badges in tray. (I know the dots are coming, LG had numbers tho)

All in all it's mainly a learning curve.

I forget what else. What's funny is I feel like there is things, but can't remember.

You can download an app called light manager in the play store to change led color. For notification badges you can use nova launcher and tesla unread also in the play store.

So maybe it's too blindingly obvious for Google but why the hell doesn't the Gmail app place a badge notification when you have unread mail on the icon like what iOS does?

How's battery life on S8 compared to S8+? My dad's phone is dying and they're practically the same price.

my rma pixel 2 xl is here. screen is still shit. seems a bit better at memory management though, but time will tell. That oneplus subreddit thread does make it seem like oreo does tighten up memory management, so thats fun. Google really needs to make that transfer tool available to everyone... so much easier to setup a new phone and copy text/media etc. Samsung's is pretty great too, although they basically clone the apps over too which can have some issues lol..

I'm a huge fan of Verizon's content transfer app. It's done everything I need it to without an issue. I work at a T-Mobile store and I use it to move customer's data over.

How long does it usually take on Swappa to sell a phone (in good condition, with some accessories, and fairly priced)?

I'm finally ready to sell my S7 Edge, but I'm thinking I might try Craigslist first, since everything I've sold on there usually goes pretty quick (taking the usual precautions of course, meeting in public place, cash only, etc.).

Seems like the remaining folks with moto x pure is finally getting 7.0 nougat update.

That phone has the weirdest software roll out. Think Brazil had that update a year ago?

Someone tell me why a website like BGR exists?

That entire place is useless trash. Not liking how many times I see articles from this web site pop up.

Did some testing with Verizon. Still can't figure out what's going on.

They thought it was a third party app causing issues, so we booted in safe mode. No luck.

Tried receiving pictures and gifs from both Android and iOS phones. Didn't make a difference.

I guess I'll go with what Motorola suggests and request a replacement. If that doesn't work (I don't think it will but we'll see), I'll try for a refund. I'm just annoyed at this point lol.
