Honestly I think Overwatch on switch is just a dumb idea, like asides from my own personal beliefs that it won't work I don't think the switch is the place for shooters. Like unless you're planning to use the dumb phone service enjoy never communicating with people in Switch Overwatch.

We have Warframe running with all the visual flair at quite good resolutions and a fairly stable 30FPS, with content parity, and that's not exactly a game that runs very stable on the other consoles.
And we have Ark coming on the same day, in exactly two weeks.

If Sony had made a Playstation Switch with exactly the same hardware, the popular narrative around it would be very different. You just have to look at how the narrative was around the Tegra X1 when it was running UE4 and had a port of Crysis 3, and how it has been after being on the Switch with much better API support and more RAM available to it.

Switch hardware isn't great, but i love it. If i need ultra high end power ill just go to my PC, but most of the time i rather game in a relaxing position. I seriously feel the switch can do more hardware wise if more games were developed exclusively on the hardware by certain devs.

Not so stealth exclusive beg, lmao.

I thought for sure this was gonna be about the launch problems the system had. Docks and bum joycons and whatnot.

Those weren't pointless though.

People said Switch can't handle Overwatch? That's dumb. Do they not realize that lowering of settings exists?

That said, Hi-Rez isn't the best company to talk about support...

Shazbot :[
Lowering settings work till a certain point:

Then a dev team has to spend way more time on the assets and engine, and even then it may still run and look like crap depending on the game.

Re: Overwatch-

Reminder that we had a very reliable pre-E3 2017 leak that called two Metroid games, a Kirby game and Overwatch for Switch. Only Overwatch never happened for whatever reason. So the announcement was pulled for some reason.

There's no way it would even get to the state where it was on a sheet of paper with planned announcements if it couldn't run, so that has never been the issue. It's likely more to do with workload and patching an additional system.
I doubt Overwatch was ever planned for the system. It's Blizzard, they have money to put a team supporting the team and dont even notice a rise in costs because of that.

About Hi-Rez.. it was obvious the games were coming. How those games are coming makes me feel that Hi-Rez is one of the worst companies right now. All of them are pushing the "paid version"(champions) before anything else, FREE 2 PLAY GAMES... Literally f2p games put out there to trap casuals into thinking those aren't free to play games and buying them(and I have seen several people "Buying" Paladins thinking it wasnt free).

Oh I do enjoy never communicating with people in Overwatch. Very much so. That's actually why I play on consoles so I don't have to look at the chat channel.

Eh. Paying for a founders pack to get early access is a common practice for F2P games. I actually think Hi-Rez is one of the more generous devs when it comes to F2P. All of their games with purchasable heroes has a one time get-all-the heroes-current-and-future option for like $30.

I'm constantly impressed by my Switch and really love the platform, but I don't think it could acceptably run Overwatch.

I feel like it's possible to happen. Definite downgrade in a lot of areas would be needed but the game is reliant more on it's art style and fluidity than it is on pushing crazy intensive visuals

So what are you asking for then? I don't get it.

Games we know they could run on Switch but big companies not willing to support 4 platforms, because reasons.

I doubt Overwatch was ever planned for the system. It's Blizzard, they have money to put a team supporting the team and dont even notice a rise in costs because of that.

Paladins became F2P on Switch a couple of months after launch, they've always said it was going to be like that.

If the founder's pack is a good deal why not? I'm enjoying the game so much now that i often ask myself maybe i should have bought that (the packs they offer now are not as convenient, although you can earn most of the stuffs by playing). Buy it if you like the game, if you don't care about those contents, just wait.

About Overwatch, we are talking Blizzard, one of the biggest companies in this industry, they have always had the resources to make this happen at any moment.

The point is that a single game running well on a console might be because of numerous factors specific to that game's specifications and that developer's particular talent and it says very little about the ease of developing or porting a title to a console or the console's general capabilities relative to other pieces of hardware. My comparison is an inane as any that uses a single title to make general claims about development.
No it's not because Quake Saturn was practically an impossible port. It was really miraculous how well it looked and performed and was head and shoulders above basically everything else on the system. Even internal efforts from allstar devs like AM2 and Sonic Team, the only thing I can think if that might be in the same league is potentially the unreleased Saturn version of Shenmue but that never made it to beta even.

I'd argue Switch doesn't have a true equivalent either, the closest thing is probably the Bethesda shooters or maybe Ark but in theses cases they're scaled engine ports rather than ground up conversions.

Realm royal coming to the switch? Did I miss something? I can't find anything related to an announcement of realm royal for the switch on the web.

Warframe or even Ark make a much better argument for the switch being able to receive roughly everything that's currently released than ports of Hi-Rez games in my opinion.

Probably, yes, but with some amount of visual compromise. Whether or not the effort to downgrade is worthwhile to studios is another question.

You know visuals arent the only thing using processing power right? Just because a games
Visuals can be downgraded to be run on lower end hardware doesnt mean all the under-the-hood stuff can be "downgraded." things like physics, and ai, and im sure a bunch of other stuff.

So even if you bump down rdr2s visuals... i still doubt it would be able to be run on switch.

Or maybe im wrong and visuals are the only thing hindering a games port to another console.

Visuals aren't just graphical prowess, but also accounts for on-screen enemy count as well as effects. Anything is possible with enough compromise.

Which reminded me that for an entire year we've heard that it's tough to support 4 platforms, that Switch hardware maybe can't handle games like Overwatch (despite it runs on shittier PCs),... And here we are with a company significantly smaller than those delivering no big deal.

Food for thought.
Probably has been already said in this thread in that case I'll just gladly repeat it.

Depends on what your production pipeline is made of , if your employees are formed to multiplatform techs that are real hardcore vendor neutral etc etc
There is a buttload of factors you don't take in consideration here ...

Also games made by a company that has a long track reccord of supporting advancements in OpenGL and Vulkan on mobile so that their games can run on real low powered smartphones and tablets just fine and hit a solid 60 FPS on those babies bein' able to hit solid 60FPS on Switch is nothing too surprising really.

They already have a looooonnng list of employees that are a "mobile optimization task force" so they've been in that turf for a long while already.

Mind you that doesn't make them any less good professionals doing a great quality job. But let's put the merit back into perspective those guys have been training themselves in that direction for decades. In fact the Switch is a real comfy and Lofty machine compared to what they are coding for on the regular ...
