A 4K Blu is likely down the line because the international Netflix trailer is in 4K and the first two episodes were originally streamed in 4K internationally.

I've heard that the show was filmed in 4K, but the effects were rendered in 2K, tho there are plenty of films with a 2K DI. That shouldn't prohibit a 4K Blu.

I can't remember where I read it, but I read it was filmed in 2K and not 4K which was the reason it wasn't aired in 4K. That's not the 2K DI for the effects either. I remember the trailer being in 4K though so I have no explanation for that.

Hello, 4K noob here. Can someone explain the digital download codes that come with some 4K discs as if I was a child, please? Movies Anywhere, Ultraviolet, FoxRedeem.com....I find it all rather confusing. I am in the UK if that helps; I understand that Movies Anywhere is the US only? Of course, I could just give them away in the relevant thread but I would still like to understand the correct protocol. Thanks :).

If you are in the UK, and assuming your discs are UK, your only real option is Ultraviolet via Flixster Video.

None of your codes will be MA native (though you may get codes that only support Google Play because the studio is not a UV participant).

If your discs are US media, they will likely support MA -or- UV (some still support both). MA is the easiest, but won't port back to a UV account, so if you want to use those, you'll need to sync it with a Google Play account as that won't require a VPN for playback in the UK (unlike Vudu).

I just checked and they are all UK discs so that makes things nice and clear. So I set up an Ultraviolet account and register the codes. I can manage that :). Do I understand it correctly that my usage of any digital code is limited to the options listed on the UV website. Google Play is not an option for a UK code? If that is the case and I want the Google Play option then I shall have to import a US disc, yes?

Google Play is generally not an option for UK discs that support UV. It depends on the studio, but outside of the link to MA in the US, Google Play codes are generally uncommon.

Setting up a Movies Anywhere account requires a US IP address, but once done, you can use and redeem codes from anywhere in the world. You can also link your US MA account to your UK Google Play account. The US movies will flow into your library, but they will be US versions so they will NOT show as purchased if you view the UK Google Play store (content in each region has its own content id). This doesn't impact functionality, but it is a user experience quirk.

And you probably wouldn't have to import US discs. You could just buy or trade for US MA codes. We have a giveaway thread here (just giveaway, no BST, and no begging) and people also sell codes in the main BST thread.

Ultraviolet seems a bit lacklustre compared to Movies Anywhere so that seems to be the way to go, thank you. Any quirks of registration that I need to be mindful of? For example, is it possible to register a code in more than one outlet but this has to be done in the correct order for it to work?

Shit fuck shit. Seems like my apartment number wasn't included on the shipping info for my Fallout copy. I called the post office and it's in the truck supposedly so maybe I can ask the mailman if he has it when he arrives. If not I *should* get it Monday.

In the US Ultraviolet codes effectively migrated to MA codes when MA shipped. It is very likely the same will happen in the UK (which is not especially imminent afaik).

If you're in the UK and want to see how/if MA movies port to your UK accounts, now is a good time to sign up because they are still giving out Happy Feet, Furious 8, and The Martian for free, just for signing up and linking accounts. No need to burn codes, and you'll see exactly how films behave when they port to say a UK Google Play account vs a US Google Play account.

MA will only redeem US based codes. UK codes will show as "wrong region" for MA.

Some (limited) UK UV codes can get into MA, but ONLY if:

Picked up a 65" TCL 4K tv, upgraded my Xbox and traded in a stack of movies to be upgraded to 4k discs.

GOOD LORD the picture and sound...

I'm torn on whether to replace my Mission Impossible disks with the UHD set, or just grab digital 4k for the new ones since I'm already gtg with the previous ones on that front.

I always get annoyed with box sets when the inevitable next movie arrives, but I appreciate the shelf space saved.

The second half of Fallout is pretty damn good. Wasn't feeling the Atmos mix that much early on but it really ramped up and got pretty aggressive. The soundtrack in particular is absolutely popping. Definitely need to pick up Rogue Nation which I've never seen.

The transfers on all the 4K MI movies are big improvements over their Blu-ray counterparts. More so with the earlier films in the series but all get a nice bump, especially with HDR.

So how do I know if I'm getting iTunes 4k upgrades? I had previously redeemed codes for both Kingsman movies in iTunes, hut lacking a apple tv 4k, I can't check. However, checking my vudu account only shows hdx copies. I bought a few blurays that have iTunes codes on Black Friday and want to know how I can make sure I get the 4k upgrades.

But I'm also hunting for the Batman: The Killing Joke UHD. Not available here in Germany unfortunately. Have seen some good eBay offers from the states though.

I picked up the 25th Anniversary Edition of Beauty and the Beast at Target yesterday for $15 after price matching. It was the only copy I saw in the store. This is my first 2D animated Disney upgrade. Next one should be The Lion King 4K, hopefully tomorrow.

I've had my 4K TV since July 2017 (LG C7 OLED) but I've been holding off buying a UHD Blu-ray player...finally caved in as the price was too good to pass up (LG UBK90 for $150)...I bought a few UHD Blu-rays which are considered reference- The Revenant, Coco and Mission Impossible: Fallout...I plan on picking up the UHD Matrix Trilogy when it drops to a decent price

Is it just me, or is Mission Impossible: Fallout a REALLY warm, almost yellow/pink film? I literally paused the movie halfway in to make this post because it's that distracting. Clouds and other off-white surfaces consistently looked yellow/pink throughout the film, save for the IMAX scenes. Is this the result of just really aggressive color grading? I'm watching off of the UHD disc.

I just finished streaming it, I thought the color of faces looked off and a bit warmish overall but chalked it up to the stream... lighting looked great though.

although tbh, and this may be hearsay in this thread, I found myself not really caring about the 4K native source? This isnt like those early VC-1 blu-rays, we KNEW those were shit. I've seen John Wick 2 UHD, which was mastered in 2K, and you can't sit here and tell me that wasn't an absolutely gorgeous picture, with phenomenal sound. Thats why I dont think 4K Masters are ever gonna be a mainstream thing. Not just because the cost involved vs 2K, but I dont think you can really sell people on the advantage like HD vs SD or DVD vs Blu-Ray. There are 2K masters that look stunning, and there are 4K masters that just look aight.

I don't buy that many movies on disc, but when I do, I prefer the best picture quality.

That won't matter for the inevitable John Wick Trilogy release. The first one is suppossed to be 4k? The second 2k, as you've said? Curious what they'll do for the third.

Yeah, I agree with this. While I *adore* 4K grain on stuff shot on film and properly mastered in 4K, for stuff shot digitally (or CG movies) it doesn't seem to be the overriding thing when it comes to how good a movie looks in UHD.

Lego Batman looks amazing. John Wick 2 looks amazing. The resolution numbers by themselves don't tell the story.

As mentioned, there are many 4K Blu-ray discs with a 2K DI that look great (like Lego Batman, The Shallows).They have been posted before, but the resolution tests by Steve Yedlin (DP of Star Wars: The Last Jedi) are useful in this discussion.More info.

And the digital copy does redeem UHD if you buy that format, just in case anyone wondered. That'll free up your pack-in code. I think the movie unlocks on the 11th, and it's MA.

hey any fellow rippers in here? Recently i've gotten a couple of blu-rays that have DTS-HD HRA on them. I've ripped almost 500 movies and TV shows and never seen this one. A cursory google search didnt reveal much other than a few threads from 2013 talking about it.

IIRC DTS high-res was a compromise between lossy DTS and DTS MA before support for the true lossless codec was more common. A few newer titles still come with a HRA mix oddly enough.
